The very idea of giving a piano recital for those hounds down there causes him heart palpitations and cold hands. If only he could escape this house tonight. But what will happen if he does venture out in the dark streets? He’ll walk for a while, and then begin to feel nervous and threatened. He’ll see angry faces flash at him from under the brim of hats.
