The Testimony The courtroom was full when I entered the next morning. The two rows behind the railing were cordoned off with a wrist-thick red rope. But Jonathan Diamond and Charles Hart weren’t there. Doyle Pike sat twisted away from me, his arms over the railing, conversing with Mr. Thrace Pike and several other clerks. I went along the near end of the table to sit beside him. A few moments later, Mr. Trevisane and his men entered. Mr. Trevisane sat next to me; his men sat in the row behind. A man with thick black hair entered next. His eyes were like Mr. Hart’s, but this man had a flatter, rounder face. His associates all resembled Mr. Charles Hart in some way: red hair, or the way they moved, or the shape of the chin. The first man shook hands with Mr. Trevisane and sat beside him,
