Chapter_25: Leylines

“Damn it!” shouted Johnathan punching his fist on the table ”We could have saved that guy’s life- we should have moved earlier and finished that monster- what use are my powers if I can’t save people’s lives?”

Johnathan was enraged upon hearing the news of the dead guy on the highway. Raven, who was always busy with her phone, shared the news that was currently going viral on social media- a blurred video of a dead body that apparently fell from the sky- people were going crazy with their own theories from aliens to wormholes!  But only the three of them knew the whole truth. This was surely the work of the monster they were discussing about earlier. It seemed now that it won’t stop with the heinous murders until it Johnathan showed himself.

“Well? What are we waiting for? Let’s go kill this thing-“said Johnathan ready to  start a war- he was a soldier after all, and he sought justice.

“Go where? Where do you intend to find it?” asked Billy trying to calm him down.

“I don’t know – but we can’t sit here all day doing nothing when that thing out there is massacring people

“Calm down boy- I’ve got this- you pack your things we will be out of her in half an hour- Raven! Get the stuff!” ordered Billy.

Johnathan was glad that finally they were about to do something about this- he checked his sword. Suddenly they heard a car pull up right in front of the door-it was Lisa!

“What is he doing here?” said Raven peeping through the window.

Lisa knocked on the door- Raven opened it.

“Hey there!” greeted Lisa.

“Hey!” replied Raven coldly.

Lisa walked to the room to meet Billy and Johnathan.

“Going somewhere guys?” asked Lisa putting her hands in her pockets.

“Yeah- well- we were just packing up- we’re all heading home-“ replied Johnathan nervously.

“What do you want?” asked  Raven with a straight face.

“Woah! Calm down sister- I was just checking on you guys –plus there has been another mysterious death- a dead body fell from the sky- you know it sounded supernatural- so I thought you could help me with some info –“ she said shrugging her shoulders.

“Well it ain’t supernatural- maybe it fell from a plane or a chopper-“replied Billy trying to find an excuse.

“Hmm-it could be- but I already checked with the airport and there were no planes flying over that area during that time, so-“replied Lisa sitting down on a chair.

“Maybe a tornado carried it in- oh! Wait that’s stupid-damn!“ said Johnathan immediately regretting his words.

“C’mon guys- I’m not that naïve- I understand you deal with this kind of stuff- I just want to know if you guys know something- besides I got a lot of files on you guys and if I take you to the precinct-“ she said.

“Oh! Just tell her already-“said Raven.

Billy took a deep breath and sat in front of her-

“Listen- there are things out there that we can’t explain- things that are born from an eternal darkness-this darkness is currently surrounding this town and as a result various supernatural entities are being released. This thing that is killing people- we believe is an ancient monster with bat like wings- and yes we were on our way to look for it and hunt it down.”  Billy explained.

“Wings you say? Funny - I thought I saw something fly right over my car earlier- like a giant bird-“she replied.

“What? Where did you see it?” asked Raven- she was intrigued.

“Well-near the highway-where the body was found-“she replied.

“That means it has its lair somewhere near- Good! We will finish it soon enough!” said Raven.

“And how do you plan on killing it?” asked Lisa.

“Oh! You don’t wanna know-”replied Billy getting ready to leave.

“Well I do wanna know- in fact I’m coming with you-“she said standing up.

“Oh! I don’t know- things might get dangerous-“replied Billy.

“Well I’m a detective and I got a gun!” replied Lisa.

“That ain’t gonna work-“replied Billy.

“Let her come- I’ll be watching her-“said Johnathan.

Billy said nothing and simply nodded- he understood now that Johnathan was getting soft on the lady cop. He knew this was not good for him- he’s too impulsive and now he’s falling in love? It was unacceptable for Billy as he believed in the old rules of the knights-how they practiced chastity and believed in the purity of the soul and the body. But he said nothing- she was a cop after all and she could help- if nothing then as bait!

A few minutes later- Billy and Johnathan got in the truck while Raven drove away on her bike. Lisa got in her car.

“Follow us-and fair warning, this might get ugly- so stay behind us at all times and don’t try to be a hero-“said Billy peeping through Lisa’s car window.

Fifteen minutes later they were all driving towards the country side.

“Where are we going again?” asked Johnathan.

“This is why you should have read the book carefully-these things like to hide in solitude- mostly in dense jungles- and there are no such places in the city except for the country side-“ replied Billy.

“But where exactly in the countryside?” asked Johnathan naively.

“Where the leylines intersect- that’s where the force is strong!” replied Billy.

“Leylines?” asked Johnathan confused.

Billy handed him a small book and asked him to read it carefully. Johnathan began to read –

"Leylines are straight alignments drawn between historical structures and prominent landmarks. These lines can be found coinciding between all the major historical sites from all around the world. For instance a straight line can be drawn from the pyramids of Giza to the Aztec ruins of Puma-Punku and this line can be stretched as far as the stone-henge of England. It is believed that the ancient people who erected these monuments had a clear understanding of the ‘lines’ as they represented the points on the earth surface where the energy of the earth was maximum. They knew that this energy of the earth can be harnessed by creating proper geometrically correct monuments...

While the earth produces pure electromagnetic energy, once harnessed, it can be used for any purpose- good or evil. Many ancient tales tell of deities bringing about revolutionary changes throughout human kind by using these energies while scholars also believe that dark forces also use this energies as fuel to spread disease and plague..."

“So-imaginary lines drawn on the surface of the earth-hmm-“ said Johnathan reading the book.

“Oh they’re real- like the sun and the moon and other celestial bodies- just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean that they don’t exist!” replied Billy.

“But there isn’t any historical site in Athena!” said Johnathan.

“But the leylines do cross over here-“replied Billy handing him a map of the city.

It was a peculiar map- strange lines were drawn all over it. Johnathan observed that two lines were crossing over the city one from the south and one from the east- and they intersected right over the country side- where the treacherous landscape led to the dense jungles.

Johnathan understood that this was more real than he ever thought- he quietly closed the map and sat observing the horizon as Billy drove towards the forests.
