Chapter_10: False Prophet- Part One

"Who's she? And what were you doing in that place?", asked Lisa driving her car on the country road.

"Her name's Maya...she was kidnapped by the Mafia, I came to rescue her...", replied Johnathan.

Lisa looked at the man. He had a certain charm about him. His face was half swollen as if he had been a terrible fight. He was covered in dirt.

"Are you hurt?", she asked.

"I'll be all right... just glad that she's ok...", he replied.

"She's your girlfriend?", she asked.

"Was...she belongs to someone else now...", he replied.

An ambulance appeared in front of them and Lisa stopped her car. The medical team took Maya to the hospital.

Lisa took Johnathan with her to the police station. The sun was slowly rising and Johnathan could smell the morning breeze, it was a long night but he felt content. He looked out of the window and saw the horizon slowly lighting up in the morning light. Lisa was tired too but she had to get to the bottom of this case.

They took Johnathan to the interrogation room after they cleaned him up. From the other side of the one sided glass, the captain watched as Lisa entered the room with Johnathan's file.She placed a bottle of water infront of him -

"So... Sgt. Johnathan Hayes, honorable discharge from the army due to medical reasons, received the Purple Heart for valor...hmm...impressive ...so they say you've lost your left leg? But you seem to walk fine...", she said as she read his file.

"Listen lady...I need to get out of here ...", replied Johnathan.

"My name's Lisa... Det. Lisa Munroe...and you're not getting out of here that easy ..we found a few dead mafia men on the site and that girl was shot... so I'm trying to figure out what the hell happened there and why?!", she said.

"I told you, I'm innocent..I went to rescue her...", replied Johnathan.

"Uh huh...and you took on what ...fifteen armed mafia all by yourself?", she asked suspiciously.

"I've done nothing wrong...you can't hold me here ...", replied Johnathan.

"You're a prime suspect in this case... Ivan, the head of the Mafia is dead...a girl was shot and you expect me to believe that you're the victim?!", she said in a demanding voice.

Johnathan sat silently.

"Lisa...", cried the captain through the intercom.

Lisa went outside and met the captain.

"Sir ..he sure is hiding something...I can feel it...", she said to the captain.

"The hospital called ...they found no GSW(gun shot wound) on the girl...not a scratch... she's just unconscious...", said the captain.

"What?! How's that possible? I saw the wound myself...I checked her pulse..I saw the blood...", replied Lisa.

"Why don't you check on the girl ajd I'll let someone else question the Sergeant...", said the captain.

"Ah! ok...I will do that", replied Lisa.

She had no idea what was going on. The past few days were too much for her to handle. She wondered if she was actually going crazy. She hadn't had proper sleep and after all these crazy business, she wondered if she could ever sleep well. But she had to do her job and so she went to the hospital to check on Maya Lovelace- the girl who miraculously healed!

Johnathan was sitting quietly and contemplating about what happened earlier. Even though he had successfully rescued Maya, he had this feeling inside his gut that something was not quite right about the whole incident-

"Why did Ivan say that he had nothing to do with the attack on Farid's shop?"

"Was Billy lying to him? Why didn't he or Raven come to help him?"

Whatever it was, he needed to speak to Billy but he couldn't do that from there, he had to get out somehow...

A few minutes later, the captain came into the interrogation room.

"Your lawyer's here...", he announced.

Johnathan was surprised. How on earth di he get a lawyer? He couldn't even afford one to be honest.

A sharply dressed old man came in to the room with a briefcase in his hand. Johnathan looked up and immediately recognised the face- it was Billy!

"Time to go...they can't hold you here for no reason...", said Billy.

Johnathan stood up and went with Billy out of the station, while the captain looked at them suspiciously.

After they were out of the station, Johnathan immediately confronted Billy.

"What the hell was that? Where were you all this time? Where was Raven?", he asked him.

"Let's get out of here first..", Billy replied calmly.

Johnathan calmed down and followed Billy to the parking lot. Billy had brought his truck back which greatly relieved Johnathan. The truck was the only thing that was permanent in his life.

It was already noon when Lisa reached the hospital and asked to meet Maya. As she entered her cabin she saw a man holding Maya's hand and talking to her, she was already awake and looked fine. Lisa introduced herself and sat down beside her-

"Do you mind if I ask you some questions?", she said.

"Not at all..", replied Maya.

"Ok...so what do you remember about last night?", she asked.

"Umm ... nothing much...I was taken from my house to some strange place...there were these horrible men...they hurt me... and then something happened and I fell asleep and I woke up here at the hospital...", replied Maya.

"Hmm...so you are her fiance? When did you know about her k********g?", she asked Adam.

"Yeah...I came home and saw her phone was broken and she was nowhere to be found and then I informed the police ...", replied Adam.

"Ok...so do you recognise this man?", said Lisa showing the picture of Johnathan on her phone.

"Uh...no... haven't seen him before...", replied Maya.

"Really? This is the man who rescued you...", said Lisa.

"Oh... I didn't know..Can I meet him? I would like to thank him...", she replied.

Lisa had enough of this now. She couldn't make heads or tails of this case. After inquiring with the doctor, she came to know that there was no apparent GSW on her body and no loss of blood. She was only slightly dehydrated and exhausted.

Lisa went back to the precinct and submitted her report. She was so frustrated when she came to know that the captain had to let Johnathan go. She then felt it was time for a break from her work and asked the captain if she could take a few days off due to work related stress. The captain kindly agreed.

Johnathan was back at the old Church with Billy and Raven. He was utterly confused and angry.

"You guys abandoned me…", he started complaining.

"I'm sorry but this was something we needed to do in order to let you realise your hidden powers…", replied Billy calmly.

"Oh cut the crap! I was getting killed out there and Maya? What was her fault? I've had enough of this…this guardian nonsense… I can't have the people I care about getting hurt like that…", said Johnathan.

"Don't be impatient now…look…just look at yourself…what you were and what you've become…Do you realise how powerful you are?" , said Billy.

Johnathan silently sat on a bench and covered his face with his hands.

"Listen to me boy …the darkside knows about your weakness…and it's gonna try to break you by attacking them… but you have to stay strong and use your head…", said Billy.

"So those men I killed and Ivan …they were with darkside?", asked Johnathan.

"Yes.. like I said before…the darkness has its claws everywhere… you saw with your own eyes…those vamps … in the club…", replied Billy.

"But…I still don't understand how I healed Maya…", said Johnathan.

"Time bending…that's some next level stuff…only the master guardians could do that …", Raven said.

"But I didn't have my amulet with me…", said Johnathan.

"The Amulet only amplifies what's already inside you…You were sincere with your emotions…you really wanted the girl to be healed and that's why you were able to…", said Billy.

"Ask and Ye shall receive… Believe and have faith… everything else will follow…", he added.

Johnathan didn't argue anymore. He was tired and said that he wanted to go home and get some rest. Billy and Raven watched as he speeded away on his truck.

"You think he'll be back?", asked Raven.

"Oh ...Yes... he's tasted power, he will be back for more.", replied Billy.

"Does he suspect anything?", asked Raven.

"No he doesn't, he's just confused about his own emotions...", said Billy as he stared at the horizon.

He had big plans for Johnathan.
