Soft moans pervaded like snowflakes, rising and falling in an euphoric crescendo. A crescendo which was soon to wane in company of a discordant grunt. Soon, 'twas just heavy breaths conveying the satisfaction of the two figures entwined under the sheets, shortly before the course of silence resumed. For a while, only the hooting of the night owls remained. Feeling slightly rejuvenated after the intense and draining session, he reached to weave his fingers in hers, looking into her sky blue eyes that was reflected even in the dull shine of the crescent moon, as if looking for some credit for a job well done. His eyes were full of affection towards her. Everytime, all day. However, even the most emotionally secure man in the world wouldn't help but fall into worry once they saw the fret that didn't take much to notice in her usually delightful eyes. " Kyley?" His hoarse voice was heavy with concern as he called out to his beloved. He couldn't help but wonder if he'd failed his duty towards her as a man- Her man. But he knew that couldn't be so. After all, Darren knew quite well that he'd performed beyond mark. The sheets and the sweet scent in the air told enough of the story... Kyley, with a downhearted expression, realizing she'd been caught out while she was stuck in her thoughts and had made Darren feel some sort of way, became even more dispirited " It's not what you think, Darren..." Knowing just how her mate was feeling, she quickly snuggled closer to him as if to say her thanks for all he'd done. Reassuring him in the process. Not that he didn't deserve it... After all, how could she feel let down when Darren had been the one who made her forget her worries just now? It's only that the feeling was short-lived. That was all Kyley regretted. Now she had to face her worries again. No matter how much she tried to shake them off, they stayed stuck and wrapped around her heart like wreathed shackles. Her intimacy with Darren was the only escape she had, but even that would never be enough to rid her of her distress. Kyley could only wish they would stay gone forever and never came back. But here she was, struggling with these feelings and the anxiety they brought her. She didn't like being this way! She wanted to stay happy with Darren... The truth is, Kyley had been feeling someway for quite a while now. It was a feeling that came from a place of fear... a place of years and years of never-ending sorrow. She'd always tried to ignore this feeling and had always put it behind the back of her mind. But nowadays, it's grown to a point where she just couldn't get it off her mind anymore. It was like a big ball of bubble gum, stuck right on her heart, and she just couldn't ignore it try as she could. For a while now, there'd been this nagging feeling at the core of her heart, as to how every time she was content with her life, a terrible situation would always come to take it all away from her in one fell swoop. Like a terrifying hurricane on a sunny day in spring. It had been an endless cycle of inevitability for her all her life. The last three years had been filled with nothing but joy, happiness, and utmost satisfaction... And now that she had the happy ending she had forever been hoping for... How was she to get rid of this nagging feeling that something was coming to tear it all apart? That something terrible was going to happen again, tearing her away from Darren and Skye! Kyley shuddered in fright at this thought, and could only snuggle even closer to Darren. She wrapped her hands around him as if to reassure herself that he will always be there, no matter what! She clinged desperately to this thought, as it was her only hope... Darren seeing this, became short of words at an instant. He didn't know what to do for a second as he just stared ahead with a blank expression. He realized this wasn't about him not being man enough for Kyley, but that there was something more. Something he should have been aware of earlier. Although Darren noticed that Kyley at times suddenly became grumpy, he hadn't put much thought to it until now. He'd always passed it off as her being moody and all. He never thought that it was to this overwhelming extent. Seeing Kyley like this, Darren became devastated. It pained him to see Kyley like this, knowing she was going through some deep emotional turmoil while he had done nothing to help. " It's okay" Feeling the need to, Darren perched a soft kiss on her forehead and wrapped his arms around Kyley; hugging her tightly and rubbing her back to comfort her. " Everything's gonna work out just fine" he whispered in a soothing voice. He didn't know just what Kyley was going through just yet, but one thing he knew was that he would never let her suffer alone! " Mhm..." Kyley whimpered at this, feeling slightly better as Darren showered her with love and support. " Thank you, darling" Kyley broke the hug shortly after and looked to Darren with eyes full of gratitude and love. " I really don't deserve you" Kyley felt like s**t at the moment. Although it was never her intention to burden Darren with her bullcrap emotions which were nothing but, she still couldn't help herself. Kyley felt that she was letting her doubts get in the way of her life, and she knew she shouldn't let it. However, there was just nothing she could do about it. She felt powerless, helpless, and miserable, but with Darren, she saw hope, however slight. " What are you saying, I'm the lucky bastard here" Darren chuckled and reached to caress her face. Kyley's lips spread into a smile as she stared at his handsome face. Her heart whirled in a surge of affection, and she reached to cup his face. " I love-" Bang! Kyley was cut off by a sudden violent crash that resounded loudly through the night. Startled, the couple exchanged a short glance before they became alerted and sprung towards the direction of the crash. Worse was, it seems to come from Skye's room! ... A/N: This chapter is a prologue to the main story, it was supposed to be in the prequel series to this book but unfortunately I'm unable to do so since it's been completed.
