Chapter 6 The trapped women

1576 Words
I waited patiently for the day that I would be free from all these things. Some months had passed and my stomach had started to swell, a small but undeniable bump. Most of the time, Alpha Evon kept me within the confines of the mansion. It was driving me crazy as I wasn't the type to sit around at a particular place without doing anything. I had already gotten used to moving from place to place to work part-time jobs in order to sort Victor's bills, all thanks to him. I guess staying here wasn't bad after all. It was better than getting beat up every night for not bringing enough money home. One day, as I took a stroll outside the mansion, trying to enjoy the cool breeze and the warmth of the sun on my skin, I felt a strange sensation. It was as if someone was watching me. I turned quickly, but saw no one. I shook off the feeling and continued walking, but the sensation persisted. After the third time of feeling those eyes on me, a hand suddenly grabbed me and pulled me towards the wall, covering my mouth. My heart pounded with fear, but then I saw her face. It was one of the maids who had tended to me the first night I came here. She had always been silent, never speaking a word. Now, her eyes were wide with urgency. "Shh… Calm down," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I won't hurt you. Just don't make a noise," she said, her eyes darting from left to right. I nodded slowly, my eyes wide with fear but also with curiosity. This was the first time I had heard her speak, and despite my initial fright, there was something in her demeanor that made me trust her. She removed her hand from my mouth and stepped back slightly, giving me some space. "My name is Lia," she said quietly. "I need to tell you something. The only reason I'm doing this is that I have a conscience. And I don't want what happened to me to happen to you." I swallowed hard, my throat dry. "What is it?" Lia glanced around nervously before continuing. "Alpha Evon is lying to you. He's never going to set you free, even if you bear him a male child." My heart sank at her words. "What do you mean? I don't understand." "He lied," Lia interrupted, her voice fierce. "He'll keep you here to bear more male children to secure his position and legacy. You're nothing but a breeding tool to him. He intends to have more than ten sons." Our surroundings seemed to spin around me. "More than ten?" I whispered, my voice trembling with fear and disbelief. Lia nodded grimly. "Yes. And the only privilege you'll have is that you'll be treated better than the rest of us because you'll be the breeder of male children." "The rest of you?" I echoed, confused. "What do you mean? What's going on here?" Lia took a deep breath, her eyes filled with sorrow. "All the maids in this mansion, including the ones who served you that night, we're all breeders. But we failed. We couldn't produce male heirs, so we were turned into maids." The ground felt like it was falling away beneath me. "Failed breeders?" I asked, barely able to get the words out. "Yes," Lia confirmed. "And if you fail to bear a male child, the same thing will happen to you. Or worse." It was too much to take in, but Lia wasn't finished. "There's a part of this mansion where he keeps women bound and locked in chains. He does whatever he wants with them for pleasure. I was lucky not to be kept as an ordinary toy for people's satisfaction. And that is because I birthed female children. The bound women couldn't bear any child at all. That's why they are there." I clapped my hand over my mouth to stifle a gasp, my eyes widened in fear. "Why haven't I seen any female children around if all of you birthed females?" I managed to ask. Lia's eyes darkened. "Alpha Evon sells all the female children to other wealthy families." "How many girls did you give birth to?" "4. After I gave birth to my fourth daughter, I started having some complications," she began, her voice tinged with sadness. "I had to undergo a procedure called dilation and curettage. They told me it was necessary, but afterward, something went wrong. I developed scar tissues inside my uterus." She paused, looking down at her hands. "It's called Asherman's syndrome. The scar tissue caused my uterine walls to stick together, and because of that, I can't conceive anymore. It's hard knowing I won't be able to have any more children, but I'm still grateful for life." "I am so sorry you went through all this, Lia. You are a very strong woman and I'm proud of you. But what about your daughters?" I asked. "Sold." My heart broke into many pieces. What the hell was going on here? How can Evon be so cruel? How could I have been so blind? The fear that gripped me now wasn't just for myself but for the life I carried inside me. Though I never wanted a child at this age, and so badly craved for my freedom, I was never going to allow such horrible things to happen to my child. What kind of person would I be? I would be selfish then. Just like him. Lia squeezed my hand. "I have to go before we get caught. Please, don't tell anyone about this conversation. Don't mention my name either." I nodded, my mind racing. "Thank you, Lia," I whispered, my voice shaking with emotion. She slipped away, leaving me alone with her revelations swirling in my mind. My mind was a wheel of fear and confusion as I made my way back to my room. I had to do something. Anything at all. The days that followed felt stretched. I couldn't shake Lia's words from my mind. Everywhere I looked, I saw the silent, fearful faces of the maids and wondered about their stories. It was now I understood why they behaved like that. Because they were forbidden to speak to a prospective breeder. I never knew that they weren't maids originally. How many of them had been brought here with promises of freedom, only to be trapped in this hellish existence? One thing was for sure, I needed to leave this place. But first, I had to find those girls. The ones Lia told me were bound somewhere in this mansion. I needed to confirm the things that Lia said, to see them with my own eyes. Come to think of it, I noticed that Evon always went a particular direction at night and he would come back looking rough and wasted. It was somewhere inside the mansion. Maybe that is where the trapped girls were. One day, while Evon was away, I ventured to look for the girls. I didn't know exactly where I was going or where I would find myself, but I followed the exact direction Evon followed. Finally, I found a hidden cave, but it was outside and not inside as I thought, but anyone could access it by following a path inside or, better still, by going outside. The cave had a door, a wooden door, and it was slightly open. I looked around, trying to make sure that there was no one around and then I went in. I moved down the small fleet of stairs and I could hear whimpers, groans and cries. I moved further and that was when I saw it--- that everything Lia said was true. There were rooms filled with women bound in chains, their eyes hollow and lifeless, their bodies bony and skinny. The sight was horrifying. The rooms were like prison rooms and it stunk like hell in this place. The smell of blood, urine and sweat. What in the living hell was going on here? As I walked further, I stumbled upon a room where a group of girls were gathered, their faces pale with fear. They looked up as I entered, their expressions wary. "Who are you?" one of them asked, her voice trembling. "I'm Ayra," I said softly, but I was more distracted by the way they looked. What did they do to deserve this? "Get us out of here," one of them rushed to her feet, her chains clinking against the ground. She held the rod and shook it repeatedly, causing it to make a noise. I could see her ribs from her skin, her hair disheveled. "Get us out of here!" she repeated. The horror of it all was overwhelming. I felt sick to my stomach, the bile rising in my throat. "But how? I don't see any keys? Why hasn't anyone tried to escape?" I asked, desperate to understand. "Because it's impossible," one of them said, her voice a bit calm. "Evon has eyes and ears everywhere. Any attempt to escape is met with severe punishment. Some have tried, but none have succeeded." "Young lady, you have to hurry. Get out of here. The guards will soon be back, and you won't like what they'll do if they find you here," another one said. Just then, I heard a voice. "Who's there?"
