I stirred awake, the familiar warmth of my bed cocooning me as I blinked against the soft light filtering through the curtains. For a moment, I lay there, my hands spread on the bed and letting the remnants of sleep cling to me.
I cried all through the night even after my little get-together with Lia. I cried until I didn't know when I fell asleep.
Then, my eyes drifted to the clock on the nightstand, and a jolt of panic shot through me.
It was already 10:00 a.m.
I shot up in bed, my heart racing. The maids usually came around 8:00 a.m. to prepare me for the day, but today… nothing. No gentle knock on the door, no quiet chatter or the sound of drawers opening as they fetched my clothes. Nothing but the eerie silence that hung in the air like a heavy fog.
