Lia and Andrea were engrossed in a muffled conversation when I arrived at the garden. They both looked up, and their eyes immediately fell on me. I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of their stares as I stopped, trying to steady my nerves.
“There you are!” Lia’s voice rang out. “What took you so long? We’ve been waiting forever!”
