WEEK 3: How to write the beginning

1124 Words
"Ranga?" I didn't turn back when someone shouted those word. She may be calling someone by that name. I didn't want to get involved with strangers too much so I ignored it. Not until the lady yelled that name again. "Langga!" I was curious to be blunt. Hence I turned my back to stare at where the loud noise came from. She was waving her hand as she stares at me. I made sure to look at my surroundings hoping it was another person she was calling. She started approaching me. I had a bad feeling about it. So I pretended didn't notice her and started walking away. But in my run, I bumped my head into something hard as steel. That bumped made me kneel myself. My head hurts. People in the side street started glared at me. Their attention made my anxiety exceed the peak of the chart. With my embarrassed looks. I cluelessly stared at what hits me. It was a big guy with an intimidating aura. He reached out his hand to help me stood my ground. "Watch where you goin' kid" He left and mind his work. I breathe my sigh of relief. Glad he was a good guy. I was distracted so I didn't notice she had already caught up on me. "Are you alright young man?" She stared at me with a compassionate face. I accepted her helping hand and stood from the ground. "Thanks." I nodded and made a low tone. "Is there anything you need from me? You have been following me lately." I asked her a straightforward question. But what I forgot is she can also communicate with me at ease. I thought everyone here speaks in a different dialect beyond my understanding. "For starters, let's go to the inn. I'm fully aware you're being suspicious of me. But rest assured I'm not a bad person." She replied with a genuine smile. She escorted me to the place she mentioned. The name of the inn was written in a language I'm unfamiliar with. I can't read it like all other signs I have seen so far. We reached the place, I sat at a table and watched people having fun on their tables. I can't handle this atmosphere, but I'll bear with it. She brought me some food. I took up her generosity. "Why are you being so kind to me?" I anxiously asked her. "I saw you were a traveller, you seem new to this place with that bracelet you were given. I wanted to help you out like I helped others." I find it hard to believe. But if it is true then maybe it won't hurt to trust her. I at least hope there's no dark motive behind her grin. "You can speak to me with ease, are you also a traveller?" "You are mistaken, this place is where I grew up. I taught myself most languages as much there is around the globe. It's natural for me to greet travellers and other foreigners that are new in this town who are not familiar with our dialect yet. The language you're using is similar to my certain friend language." I was amazed by how genius this lady is. It probably took her years to mastered those many. What caught my attention was when she mentioned a certain friend used the same language as mine. "What is your friend looks like?" She averted her eyes as she scratches her cheek. "Let's save that talk later. For now, I'll tell ya everything on how you will adapt to this town. I'm the owner of this inn. You may stay here free of charge and pay when you can. I considered everyone here as my family" She smiled gently. "Young boy, she is the kindest person in this town!" "Totally agree! She always helps people even us!" "There's no need to worry young boy, will help you out if you need us!" The people from other tables started talking at us and supporting the lady. They can also somehow speak in my language, their accent is just a bit off. I assumed they have been taught by this lady. "I fully appreciated the help." I answered with an anxious look on my face. "What should I do from now on? Where can I earn money so I can repay your kindness?" "Since you are new here in this, have you already registered from a guild from other towns?" Registered from a guild? It sounds like a game. "What do you mean register to the guild?" She made a shocked expression. It is a natural reaction I get cuz I am clueless about this. "Well, you need to be registered on a guild to obtain a quest. A quest gives a reward depending on what rank and how difficult to clear it. In your case, if you haven't registered on a guild yet, you only get the lowest ranking quest and an easy to win. Good for beginners if I am to say." I got the gist of it. "Where is this Guild?" "I have a friend who will escort you there. He's a strong ang reliable guy. You guys will get along. Jojo!" She called her friend. "Yare yare daze." Translated: Good grief. I stared at a guy who was called. He was leaning against the wall, smoking a cigar that gives him a vibe of a delinquent. "My name is not Jojo, I am Dio!" The lady laughed. "You are being funny as usual," she said. They seem pretty close together. "You have heard what I said. You'll be escorting this young boy to the guild. I have many works to do here. Young boy, may I know what your name is?" Name? Should I give her my made-up name or a real one? I'll feel bad if I gave her the made-up one. "Chunchunmaru" That's a nickname I came up with. My friend calls me that. Although I don't talk much, they are still there to make my day. That name will do. They stared at me with a what-look on their faces. "Well. Glad to meet you Chunchumaru. That's a pretty unique name." I feel guilty for not giving my real name after they're being kind to me. "Forgive me. That was a nickname my friends called me." "Is that so. You must have your own reason to not say it. That's no problem. Just tell us your actual name when you feel like it." She smiled honestly. "As for my name, It's Asami. It's my pleasure to be friends with you." Friends? Ahh. It's better to have friends here. And then, The next chapter is when I became an adventure.
