Chapter 16: Dormant

*Flashback* Scared to death, Carter hugged the wall just as her mother lunged at her. But instead of feeling claws sink into her, Carter opened her eyes to see she was a few feet away, her body now one of a white wolf. Carter had only shifted a few times and still not very good at it but nonetheless, she sent a small growl to her mother, a warning.  Enraged, her mother swung around and raked her claws down Carter's stomach. Carter's white fur soaked with blood as she gasped in pain and fell to the floor as her mother stood over, her words echoing in Carter's mind.  “Say goodbye, it will be the last thing you will ever say.” Her mother hissed. She came at her and Carter closed her eyes, her heart slowing, everything going dark as her eyes closed.  “Goodbye.” It was the last thing she ev
