Emmanuel and Ahani remained as they had been a few moments longer before the tension that Emmanuel felt grew too strong to ignore. He shifted slightly closer to the edge of the basin, moving his free hand to rest it softly against the back of Ahani's head, his fingers sliding through the strands of her hair as he leaned in to kiss her. Ahani stiffened at first, though she relaxed a second later, moving her hands from his mask to rest one on the side of his neck, the other on his chest. This was a moment that Ahani had not expected, though she welcomed it warmly.
In the beginning, she hadn't even wanted to look at Emmanuel, though now it was different. There was something there that hadn't been before. He took care of her, watched over her, made sure she was safe. The Fallen did everything in his power to make sure that her new life was easy to adjust to, even going so far as to stand up to those higher in rank than he was. He put everything he had at risk for her, and in the beginning she came across as ungrateful, though now that she could clearly see what he did for her, she grew to appreciate him. Feelings she had never felt before had begun to grow in Ahani, and where she would have fought against them before, denied them, she welcomed them.
Emmanuel drew Ahani closer, sliding over on the edge of the basin to be close to her, his arm wrapping just under her wings, being mindful not to press them as he deepened the kiss that they shared, and for a moment, he felt as though he could forget about everything around them. The war, the tension with the other Fallen, his feelings of guilt... all of it. For now, the only thing that mattered was what was right in front of him. When it felt as though they would both run out of breath, Emmanuel reluctantly drew away from the kiss, opening his eyes to look at Ahani, a sudden surge of fear washing over him. It was almost as if he were to let her go, she would vanish or change her mind.
