7 THE TEAMKara had dropped Wayne off at the Albany at ten o’clock and had gone on to meet her friends, although she had told Wayne that she was tired and wanted to go to bed. However, Wayne was not in the least tired, and so sat in the bar and nursed three or four pints until closing time at one o’clock, when he went to bed and watched television.
He was disappointed about not being able to stay at the party, because he found the people so interesting and loved the atmosphere, but he believed that it was Kara’s call and respected it. He could not have let her drive back alone either, although it was not very far. However, he had said nothing about it and never would.
