Chapter 6.

Diane’s POV. I swear to God, I was going to kill Celine. This is exactly why I didn’t want anyone to come with me, now look at the tight spot she had put me in. “I was just trying to be nice; my offer will hold for the next ten minutes. Choose wisely.” Nope, I was going to kill Celine, revive her, then kill her again about seven times. This arrogant man told me to choose wisely like I had any choice in real sense. Refusal would result in Celine’s capture, war then possibly Celine’s death. “Keep the bodies of your men, let her go.” “It’s funny you think five dead bodies are anything but a burden to me.” “Their families?” “Compensation. Death is expected in the service.” He looked at his wrist. “Nine minutes.” “What happens if I agree to stay?” “Didn’t I voice my offer clearly enough?” “To Celine, what happens to her?” I had to refrain from rolling my eyes. “She gets to return with my troops that would guard your people. Take it as a bonus.” “Oh, how generous of you.” I rolled my eyes this time. “Since the moment you stepped into my gates, I’ve suspected you had a death wish.” His eyes narrowed in on me. “I admire your audacity.” “Fortunately, I don’t admire anything about you.” “Your smart mouth would do you no good here, trust me.” There was a knock at the door, and it swung open immediately. A skinny brown-haired man, with caramel skin color burst into the room. I couldn’t see his face yet as his back was still to me. “Yo, what’s all the noise about? I heard there was an attack.” He was speaking to the king. “Where the f**k were you?” “I had,” He scratched the back of his head then coughed into his palm. “Um, stuff to do.” It was then I took in his appearance properly, scanning his back. His shirt was half untucked from his trousers with creases almost everywhere. I trailed my eyes to mess on his head, his hair was roughly smoothened but standing upright in several places as though someone had run their hand through it multiple times. I grimaced. “I swear, I’m going to demote you.” The king shook his head at the skinny man. “Chill, Ryan. How would I have known an attack was going to happen in the fifteen minutes I stepped out?” “Just shut up.” “Ryan?” I said mostly to myself but they both heard me. The skinny brown-haired man spun around so fast, almost tripping on his foot. “Holy fuck.” He cussed the moment his eyes landed on me. “What?” The king asked me. “Your name is Ryan?” “You don’t know my name?” He c****d his brow at me. “Who’s King?” “What do you mean by that? I’m the king.” “Then who’s Martins?” I kind of realized just now that I didn’t know the king’s name. Most times when I spoke to people, they just referred to him as king, but I’ve heard them talk about a certain ‘Martins’ coming into town on special occasions, and I suspected that was the King’s name. “Hi, I’m Martins.” The other male in the room stepped forward with his hand outstretched to me. “Your people don’t even know your name,” I scoffed at Ryan, ignoring Martins. “I’m not a fan of public spaces.” The King’s eye moved to look at Martins standing there with his hand still stretched and I could see the hint of a smile on his face. “At least acknowledge the poor dude.” He tilted his head towards Martins, but he was smiling broadly this time. “Hello.” I nodded my head at him. He winked at me, and I sent him an irritated look causing Ryan to laugh. “Taylor, Diane. Diane, Taylor; my Beta.” Ryan re-introduced us. “Alpha Diane,” I corrected for the second time today. “Hell no. You’re Alpha Diane.” Taylor pointed at me in shock. “You’re the rogue Alpha.” “And today’s attacker,” Ryan said. “f**k no. You’re joking.” He faced Ryan. “Why didn’t you say that?” “When could I have said it, when you were thinking with your d**k?” “How did you do that?” Taylor faced me again. “s**t, don’t tell me you’re DS? Five men, like five, single-handedly?! Do you have powers or something supernatural? Well, you’re a werewolf so that’s already supernatural but nobody mentioned anything about you turning to your wolf. Regardless, how did-?” “If I had powers, I’d use it to make you stop talking.” I cut his rambling short. “Taylor, where are the men you sent out?” “Chill,” He stared into space like he was in thought just like Ryan had done a while back. “They just arrived.” Oh, mind-linking. So, Ryan had known they’d captured Celine before he made his offer. Sneaky s**t. “Is she coming here?” I questioned him. “She’d be here in two minutes.” I sighed in relief, but he continued. “You have a minute to make your decision.” “I’d stay.” “Lovely choice.” He walked behind his desk to sit down, while Taylor perched at the edge of his desk facing me. “Stay where? What’s going on?” He adjusted to look between Ryan and me. “Can someone fill me in?” They both stared at each other in silence and judging by the look of concentration on their faces, I could tell they were both mind-linking. I stood there waiting patiently for Celine to join us. There was a knock at the door, breaking Ryan and Taylor out of their mind-link. Taylor walked over to the door and opened it. His body was blocking the open space in the doorway so I couldn’t see much past him. He didn’t move or say anything. Then I heard her voice, “Why are you just standing there, staring at me? Step aside.” Celine. “Don’t think of doing anything stupid, you of all people should know the difference between a guard’s strength and an Alpha’s,” Ryan spoke from his seat staring intently at me. Taylor moved aside and Celine came into view. She looked around the room before her eyes settled on me. “Diane!” She screamed out and ran towards me, enveloping me in a hug. “I’m so glad you’re safe.” “I should be the one being glad that you’re okay,” I said. She stepped back and then looked at me sheepishly. “I’m so sorry I followed you here, I just couldn’t let you go alone.” “It’s fine,” I sighed. I was going to kill her but right now, I’m just grateful she’s fine. She looked away from me then at the other two in the room then back to me. “Who are these two?” “This is Taylor, or Martins, whichever you choose to call him.” I pointed at Taylor because aside from the fact he was boring holes into Celine, he was closer. “What should I call you?” Celine asked Taylor. “Whatever you wish to.” He flashed her a broad smile. Ryan reached up and smacked him on his head and I heard him murmur something about using his head properly. “This is Ryan,” I emphasized on his name, purposely avoiding his title. I caught the look of surprise Taylor sent at the corner of my eye. “Alpha Ryan and King of the werewolf world.” He corrected, staring daggers at me and I smirked, fulfilled. “The King.” Celine gasped and immediately bowed her head. “Your Highness.” Girl, would you raise your stone head right this instance? “Ms. Adams.” Ryan acknowledged her and she stood up straight. “Heard you took down five men, I can’t wait till we tell John.” She whispered excitedly to me. I smiled sadly to myself, I wondered when next I’d see John. “About that, Celine.” I took a deep breath before continuing. “I won’t be returning with you.”
