"Luke it's time to get out of the bath now." Brooke said, a little impatiently. She could sense that Luke did not want to get out of the bath. Nate would be home from work any minute now and she did not want to struggle with Luke when he got here. What if he thought she was not capable of looking after Luke anymore? "No Brookie, I want to stay!" He started splashing her with water out of anger. Brooke sighed heavily. Luke rarely got angry at her but once he does he always throws these little tantrums. Luckily she always knew how to handle them. "Luke. I tell you what. Why don't we come to an agreement?" Brooke spoke slowly. Luke stopped splashing the water as he eyed her curiously. "To avoid us getting angry at each other we sh-" "Brookie, what does avoid mean?" Luke interrupted her. She smiled at how innocent he looked. "Luke it means we should stop or keep away from getting angry at each other. Do you understand now?" He nodded. "Okay Luke, so to avoid that, we must make a deal. Since you love the water so much, you'll get an hour every night to spend in the water and once that hour is up you have no choice but to get out." Brooke stared at the very intelligent five year old boy in front of her. She was patiently waiting on what his response was going to be. He gave her a big smile and nodded his head furiously. All signs of an angry Luke were gone. "Okay Brookie. We have a deal." He shot his hand out with an adorable smile on his lips. Brooke looked at this action with amusement. He must have learned this by his father. Brooke smiled and then took his hand. "Why are we making the deal again?" Brooke asked him, just to make sure he knew fully. "To avoid us getting angry." Luke said, with a very proud smile. "That's good little man. So right now you have about-," she stared at the watch around her wrist. "5 minutes left and the hour will be up. You better rush, my love." She playfully said in a sing-song voice and started tickling him. He laughed gleefully, squirming in her arms. A few minutes later and Brooke had gotten Luke successfully out of the bath. She got Luke dressed just when Nate arrived home from work. He looked really tired and Brooke could see it but unfortunately for Nate, Luke was in the mood to play with his father. Luke was tired as well but he was fighting against his sleep. "Daddy, daddy!" He ran to his father and hugged his legs. Nate looked down at his son, a tired smile covering his handsome face. Even in in his tired state, he bent down to pick Luke up. "Nate would you like me to make you some coffee? You look rather tired." Brooke offered. Nate looked at her with a weird emotion in his eyes before nodding his head and then carrying Luke with him to his office. After the coffee was done, Brooke took it inside only to find both Luke and Nate fast asleep on the bed Nate had in his office. She smiled at the sight. Luke was sleeping soundly with his head resting on Nate's chest. She grabbed a blanket from the closet throwing it on both of them and then took the coffee back in the kitchen throwing it out before going into her room. She took her phone and saw she had about five missed calls; two were from Ben and three from Cara. She decided to phone Ben first knowing she was going to have to deal with Cara's dramatics. "Brooke!" He answered sounding surprised. "Are you still alive, princess?" Brooke laughed. "Yes Ben I'm alive. How are you doing?" "I'm good. How is the rich life treating you?" "It's not a rich life Ben, it's a normal life." "Well if you call a downtown girl suddenly living with an extremely obnoxious billionaire who only sleeps around with random girls a normal life then sure, how's the normal life?" Brooke did not miss the bitterness and sarcasm in his voice. She felt the sudden urge to stand up for Nate. At first she thought he was like that but then she got to know him and he was not really all that bad. "Ben, he might sleep with a lot of women but really is not all that bad. You should not judge a book by its cover. I judged him when I first met him but I was wrong. Once you actually get to know him you'll find a different side of him. He's a great father, cares very much for his son." There was silence on the other end of the line. Brooke surprised herself by her words. "Ben, are you there?" "Well you clearly know him." Ben stated bitterly. "Ben I've been living with him for over two weeks now. I got to know him." "You should not get too caught up in his life. You might end up just as obnoxious and arrogant as him." Brooke gasped at Ben's harsh words. What was wrong with him? "Ben, what has gotten into you?" Brooke was hurt and she made no effort to hide it. Ben sighed. "I'm sorry Brooke it's just you've been so busy with him it is like you have forgotten all about me." "Ben, I didn't forget you. I've just been busy with his son Luke, not him." "Night Brooke, sleep well." Ben ended the call before Brooke could even say anything. Brooke sighed. She really did not know what was up with Ben. She did not to bother thinking about it anymore. ----- The next morning Brooke phoned Cara. "Cara! I forgot to phone you back last night. I'm so sorry." "It's fine Brooke." Cara's voice sounded groggy and Brooke eyes got big and felt her heart drop. She did not sound her usual perky and dramatic self. Brooke could feel herself starting to panic. She felt really guilty about not calling Cara back last night, when she might have had an emergency "Cara, are you okay?" Brooke worriedly asked. "I'm...fine." She barely managed to breathe out. Brooke was now really worried, there was definitely something wrong with Cara. "Cara, where the heck are you? I'm coming." "Wait Brooke." Brooke she heard a ruffle on the other end of the line and then Jason was talking to her on the phone "Brooke." He said softly. "Jason. What's wrong with Cara? Is it the baby?" Brooke croaked out. She felt her chest tightened. Jason sighed. "Cara is in the hospital now. Last night she got these extreme pains in her stomach and I took her to the hospital. The doctor said it is contractions and that she might give an early birth." Brooke breathed out a sigh of relief that there was nothing wrong with the baby or Cara. "So you might have a premature baby?" "Yes. I just hope she is okay and the baby as well." Jason said worriedly. "Don't worry Jason the both of them will be okay. What hospital is she? I want to come now." Brooke could hear Cara in the background saying no and that she didn't want Brooke to leave Luke. "Jason put me on speaker phone." Brooke requested. "You're on speaker." "Cara, I'm coming to you. You are my best friend and I'm her godmother. I have to be there in case you give birth." "Are you sure, Brooke?" "Of course I am sure. Just text me which hospital you at." "Okay Jason will text you the hospital." After Brooke was done and dressed she went downstairs. Expecting to find no one down stairs she was surprised when she found Nate was there, leaning against the kitchen table and he was not in his usual work attire. Instead he was in nothing but a sweat pants that hung low. She could see he's defined abs. It was like he was sculpted by the greek gods themselves. Brooke's jaw opened slowly. He should really wear a t-shirt. "Enjoying the view?" The sound of Nate's voice broke her from her thoughts. Her eyes snapped to his teasing ones. She felt her cheeks warming up. "Wha...No...I mean I..." She stopped. A smirked made its way to Nate's lips He knew he had an effect on her and he was enjoying himself. She composed herself. "Pssh, I have seen better." She said nonchalantly with a dismissive wave of her hand. Nate raised his eyebrows. "Is that so?" He pushed himself off of the kitchen table and slowly made his way over to her. She took one step to the back. "And, where exactly did you see that?" He asked slowly, with every word he took a step closer to her and she one step to the back, until she hit the wall. He put both his hands on the wall, caging her. "I..." She was tongue tied. Nate smiled down at her,  his height towering over her. She looked up into his piercing blue eyes. Her heart was beating faster. Nate's eyes flicked down to her lips and he moved closer. With this action Brooke's eyes flickered to his rosy lips as well, her head moving closer. So close so could feel his breath fanning her lips and she wanted nothing more than to just close the distance between then. Brooke realized what was about to happen she placed her small hands on his bare chest and shoved him lightly. A mixture of confusion and hurt flickered through Nate's eyes before he composed himself and pulled away. Brooke suddenly felt cold. He turned away from her. He did not like these feelings he felt around her. There was an awkward silence. Brooke realized that she was supposed to be on her way to the hospital right now. She cleared her throat and then turned to Nate. "Nate, aren't you working today?" "No I left Aiden in charge today. I wanted to stay home and spent time with my son today." He answered and Brooke smiled at his answer. He might work a lot but he did not neglect his son. He's gaze lingered on her attire. "You going out?" "Uh yes. I mean I wanted to ask you if I could. My friend, she is in the hospital. She might give birth today." He smirked. "You mean the same friend who always talks about me on the phone?" Brooke tried fighting a smile but failed. She rolled her eyes. She was grateful that they were back to normal. "She does not always talk about you. Don't flatter yourself." He chuckled slightly. He's laugh was contagious and Brooke had no choice but to laugh with. "Well Brooke you should not keep your friend waiting, she might go into labor."  "Oh, right. Thank you for allowing me to go, Nate. I'll see you later." He nodded --- "Miss you can't go in there." The nurse in front of the room Cara was in said. "Why the heck not? She is my best friend." "She's in labor now. So you will have to wait a while. Only her husband is allowed in there." Brooke groaned and walked to the waiting room to take a seat. If only she came a bit earlier. Few minutes passed still no one came. Brooke impatiently paced up and down. She groaned and then looked for the nurse that stopped her from going in Cara's room. She spotted her talking to some doctor. "What's happening in there?" Brooke asked impatiently. "Miss, once she has given birth we will call you." The nurse said clearly annoyed. Brooke refrained herself from saying something rude and went back to the waiting room and took a seat while tapping her foot impatiently. About 20 minutes had passed and still no one came to call Brooke. That's when she decided that she did not care whether she was allowed in the room or not but no one was going to stop her from going in. On her way to the room that Cara was currently in the same nurse came and stopped in front of her. "Miss, your friend has given birth to a healthy baby girl." Brooke smiled and ran into the room. "Brooke, it's good to see." Cara gave her a tired smile, with a small crying little baby in her arms. Cara's hair was sticking to her sweaty forehead. Her eyes were blood shot red. Cara gave birth when she was only eight months along. The baby looked smaller than a usual baby. Cara and Jason was smiling and looking happily at their baby girl. "Cara." Brooke breathed out as she hurried to her side and looked down at the crying baby. "Hey there little girl. This is your godmother here." Brooke smiled at the baby. "We decided to name her Jayra Brooke Knight. It's mine and Jason's names combined." Brooke smiled. "It's a perfect, Cara." "You want to hold her?" Cara asked. Brooke took Jayra carefully out of Cara's hand. "Jayra suits you. Ooh you're so tiny" She planted a soft kiss on Jayra's small forehead. "We have to take her now." Another nurse entered the room. Brooke gave her to the nurse. "What did the doctor say?" Brooke asked. "They will keep Cara and the baby here for about two to three days to check on the baby." Jason answered. "Where is my niece?" A loud voice was heard. Caleb burst through the door. "Cara. Mom phoned me the minute after you phoned her,  to tell me you had contractions this early. She and Dad immediately took a plane back here. They said they want to see the baby."  "They did?" Cara's eyes lit up and she smiled. "I could have video chatted with them now they have to go through all that trouble to come see the baby." "Nonsense Honey, we wanted to come and see our only grandchild." Everyone's eyes snapped to the door where Mr and Mrs Harris were standing. "Oh sweetie you look so tired." Mrs Harris walked over to Cara while Mr Harris only smiled. He was not much of a talker. Cara was the spitting image of her mother. She kissed Cara on her forehead. Brooke stared at the sight and could not stop herself from feeling a pang of jealousy. She wished she had a relationship like this with her mother. "Brooke. You have grown into a beautiful woman." Mrs Harris came over and hugged her tightly. She was always the mother figure, whom Brooke needed, in her life. She had first met Cara's parents when she was only 19 years of age and they welcomed her like she was their own child. "Thank you Mrs Harris." "How many times do I have to tell you to call me Rose?" "I'm sorry...Rose." Brooke smiled sheepishly at her. Suddenly Rose pulled her into another hug. "I heard about Liam and what Catherine did to you sweetie. I know I am a bit late but my deepest condolences. We are always here for you, okay?" Rose whispered in her ear. Brooke felt a tear sliding down her cheek. She hugged Rose back tightly. "Thank you." Luckily no one saw Brooke and Rose's interaction. They too were too (ingulved)  busy looking at the baby the nurse just brought in. The whole gang were here. Iris and Diana had entered right after Mr and Mrs Harris came and after that Sarah, Ben and even Kale joined them. Later Jason's parents and twin sisters came in. The room was really full. They were there for about four full hours until Mr and Mrs Harris took off, with Sarah, Kale and Ben. "I have to go now too Cara but I'll visit you again sometime in the week okay?" "Okay Brooke. Thanks. I love you." "I love you too." Brooke said her goodbyes to everyone else and then left the hospital. Brooke felt oddly happy to go back to Nate and Luke. After the moment she and Nate had shared this morning she was really looking forward to seeing him and that scared her. She did not want to feel this way towards a womanizer. She walked inside and heard it was really quiet. By now Luke should be home from preschool already. She softly walked to the kitchen and what she saw in front of her made her stomach clench. She felt her heart drop. Nate was in the same attire he was this morning the only difference is his hair was in different directions. If Cara was here she would have called it s*x hair. There was woman with him and she was only wearing an over-sized shirt of him. He was feeding her and she was giggling uncontrollably. What upset Brooke the most was that the sight was sickening to her stomach. Why did she feel so bothered by it? Once Nate spotted her his facial expression was suddenly blank. Brooke composed herself and hoped the hurt that she felt was not evident on her face. The woman turned around to see who the one who caught Nate's attention so suddenly. She glared at Brooke. "Uh hey." Brooke said awkwardly. "Brooke this is Hailey, Hailey this is Brooke." "Nice to meet you." Brooke said blankly and then immediately turned her attention to Nate. "Nate where is Luke?" She asked. She could only hope he was not here to witness what his father was doing. Did he not say he wanted to spend the day with his son? "My father came to pick him up. He is spending the rest of the day there. They will bring him back." "Okay good." Brooke heard herself say. For a moment she and Nate just stared at each other, while Hailey was picking her nails out of boredom. Brooke then broke their trance by turning away from Nate and walked to her room. "Where were we?" She heard Hailey ask him and her heart sank deeper. Why am I feeling this way? She thought to herself. She knew Nate is a player and still she let the moment they had this morning get to her. Here she was happy to come back home and he had a different woman with him already. She was furious with herself for thinking this morning actually meant something. She shook her head wildly getting rid of the absurd thoughts she was thinking. She was here for one thing only and that was to look after Luke, nothing else.
