"Wings? What wings?"

The moment Ahrein spots the wings sprouting from Gerena’s back, everything changes.

After being cast out of heaven and spending twenty years living as a human, Gerena finally regains her divine powers—and her chance at revenge against the elders who exiled her. But her triumphant return doesn’t go as planned. Her powers begin to malfunction, and now, even Ahrein—the man she trusted—questions if she’s truly a goddess or if she’s been lying all along.

With her identity and position as The High Goddess on the line, Gerena must uncover the truth about who she really is. If she’s not a goddess, then what is she? And will she have the strength to reclaim her destiny before it’s too late?

Prologue
"It's unacceptable to have that girl as a ruler. We are all older and stronger than she is. Why should we take orders from a mere child? I refuse to do that" one of the older gods voiced his opinion. There were five in total who'd gathered there with the excuse of coming up with a solution to a non-existent problem. The high God had disappeared, leaving his sister Gerena in charge of the heavens. She was young and inexperienced. Instead of being her guide and helping her the way they were supposed to, the high council was busy trying to find a way to dethrone her. On the outside, they were respected members of society who provided knowledge and wisdom to the other leaders. But secretly, they all coveted power. Each and every one of them was ambitious and thought they could do a better job as the ruler of the heavens. No one but themselves knew how long they'd had that kind of greed or how it had festered over the centuries. Five selfish gods who had their own agenda came together to get rid of a little girl. They were powerful enough to oppose her publicly and maybe have the others agree with their opinion -that the little girl wasn't fit to rule the heavens- but they didn't want to taint their image. Known as the calm and knowledgeable elders who didn't bat an eyelash during wars or emergencies, they couldn't afford to look frazzled just because they believed the high God had made a mistake. Their only option was to get rid of Gerena first. Make her disappear while they found a permanent solution. If they could, they would have killed her. But that would require blood from the mythical beast and ancient old spells. While the spells were easy to find, blood from the mythical beast would be impossible to acquire since the high God disappeared along with it. So how were they going to get rid of Gerena? Throw her down to earth. It was the worst punishment for any of the Gods. While humans could eventually become a god through a series of tests and trials, no god wanted to be a human. It was a demotion, a kind of humiliation for any of them to suddenly be a mere mortal and have their powers locked away. There was also the time difference between heaven and earth. Ten years on earth was only a week in heaven. Time went by slowly down there and it was worse if you were aware of your surroundings and who you were. Which was why most of them preferred to have their memory wiped. Better to think you were a human than know you were a god living among humans. "If we are going to do something, I suggest we do it fast. No one knows when that girl will come into her powers. She might be a little girl but let's not forget who's blood is running through her veins. I don't like surprises" another god reminded them. He was right to do so. There was no telling what kind of special power she possessed. Anyone who became a high deity had to complete one of the hardest trials. Sometimes no one could predict what the trial would be like. What was worse was that Gerena could be going through it while they were talking. "While we can still do it, I suggest we wipe her memory and have her live down there with those filthy humans. If she doesn't know who she is, she won't even think of coming back here" the third god said. Another one spoke up "How long will that last? Having her live as a human I mean. A month? Two months? What happens after she dies? Have any of you thought about that?" "By then we would have found a permanent solution. Let's not worry about that" They came up with a plan they all thought was great. Cast Gerena out of the heavens, then go in search of the mythical beast and spells. They didn't believe they couldn't find it. Between the five of them and their powers, nothing was impossible. Only they didn't know one of them had different plans. When they stormed into Gerena's quarters, he was the last to go in. Even as they used their powers to wipe off her memory, he saved his for the encore. They messed the place up so it would look as if she had been attacked by demons, then lastly sent her body to an undisclosed location. Even if her soul did come back, she'd have no idea where she was or what had happened to her. The magical dog she had with her was nothing to them so they sent it together with her body. After making sure everything was set up, they all stood in the courtyard to admire their handiwork. "Who is going to take the position of the high God?" The fifth god finally spoke up. They looked at each other, all of them hoping the others would pick him. When no moved to say a word, he decided to get started on his plans. Then and there. They wouldn't know what hit them. --------- In her last moments, Gerena was seething. How dare those lowly gods think they could dethrone her? Her brother had warned her. He'd said they would do something like that but she hadn't believed him. They were after all the elders who had taught her when she was young. They had been kind, so much so that she'd considered them a part of her family. As she took her last breath, she realized how naive she'd been. A few more days and she would have taken them all out with just a snap of her fingers. Did they know she'd get her powers so soon? No one knew. It didn't matter. As long as she wasn't dead then it didn't matter. When the time came, she would surely show them just who she was. It looked as if they had forgotten her identity. Their greed for the throne had blinded them. Soon she would make everyone and everything bow down to her. She was after all the high Goddess. **************************** This is just a prologue but I'm hoping you'll be interested enough to wait for more chapters. I'm going to submit this to the Rebirth contest that's currently going on so I sincerely hope you guys will support me. Leave your comments because I want to hear your thoughts. Since I'm still writing this, if you have any idea of what you'd like the story to be like, I wanna hear it. Who knows? I might end up incorporating your ideas into the plot.
