Chapter 6

2221 Words
Ivy spoke with her father later that day and surprisingly he simply asked how she was doing and if everything was alright with her health seeing as she slept in. Perhaps God was answering her prayer or her dad just wanted her to be she wasn’t sure which it was but was glad he didn’t ask about the dinner although she suspected the other party already filled him in on all that transpired. As she sat in front of the mirror and her Mom made her hair, she couldn’t help but think of Jordan, they hadn’t spoken since the last time she called, she just wanted him to finish up and come back home to her. “Penny for your thought honey” Olivia interrupted her train of thought and she simply shook her head ad her Mom chuckled and went back to styling her hair. Soon she was dressed elegantly in a short red gown and silver heels with a silver necklace and matching pair of earrings and a silver bracelet on her left hand. Her make up was flawless as usual, she looked stunning. Olivia herself was dressed to perfection, in her long black gown, royal blue heels and accessories, she looked every inch a queen and it was not so hard to see where Ivy got her good looks from, both mother and daughter looked extraordinary and it didn’t even look ad though they tried too hard, they were naturally beautiful. “Now I see why you were taking so much time, you both look breathing this evening” George Stewart complimented them and Ivy felt as though that was the first time her dad complimented her mom, smiling a bit at her dad she glanced partly at her mom who had a small smile playing on her lips. “Shall we go?” Allen asked looking impatient and tired Ivy noticed. “We shall” she responded and the family left. -------------- The Martins were one of the oldest business partners of the Stewarts and held a high social status in Costa. Their home was very huge but it was kind of the custom in Costa, the richer you are, the larger your house. The Martins family consisted of Fred Martins, Susan Martins and their two daughters, Violeta Martins and Kiera Martins. “I thought this was going to be a simple dinner between both families, why does it look like the entire city has been invited?” Ivy asked her brother as they made their way into the huge house behind their mother and father. “Because they are trying to ease both of us into the idea of getting married” Allen spat out as if the mere thought of it disgusted him and then it suddenly clicked, her father was trying to get her brother married to one of the two daughters of the Martins. “Which one of them?” “The older one of course, Kiera” he snapped and Ivy decided to let it be, her mother’s words ringing in her head He’s more sensitive “Look I’m sorry for snapping okay, I’m just not in the mood to answer these questions” Allen apologized and Ivy shook her head. “It’s nothing, I understand” Together they entered the large hall where they met other guests and the host family, they all were enthusiastic about the Stewart being present and Ivy could have sworn she saw her mother roll her eyes a few times. Well she also did the same, she had known most of the children of the families that were present, and why not? They all did attend the same prestigious and elite schools in Jochain. Many of the girls her ages had tried to suck up to her many times not because they were interested in knowing her but because of her status. She however pitied her brother, the ladies were looking at him like he were a piece of meat. Although her brother was extremely good looking and pretty much confident most of the time, he did look like he was suffocating, he looked like he wanted to escape and to make matters worse, their dad made him stand next to Kiera ever since they got there. While she was pitying her brother, her own nightmare appeared when the Quintons walked into the hall, well Caleb walked in with a woman whom she very well knew was his mother, the similarities were there. She nearly had a heart attack and quickly turned back and moved farther into the crowd. She felt her phone vibrating and took it out and saw a message from Jordan and her face lit up as she opened the message One New Message From My Love Hey baby, sorry I can’t be with you for Christmas, I have sent a package for you, it’s been delivered to your apartment. I have some urgent work to do so I might not call this night again. Merry Christmas Baby. Like on auto pilot, her mind began thinking of how to leave the dinner without any problem. Only, she had no idea how to leave without being spotted by her family or Caleb, no doubt he would be looking for his ‘bride’. Peaking out from the corner she hid in she tried to spot her family and plan her escape. “Please let’s all move into the garden for our dinner” the voice said over the Mic and almost immediately, everyone began filing out of the hall through another door different from the one they came in through, she immediately called a cab and gave the address, she couldn’t take the car she and her brother came in since the chauffer will no doubt alert her family so a cab it was. Taking her chance, she sneaked out of the hall and sighed in relief when she made it out without anyone stopping her, she knew she was inviting trouble with what she was doing but she couldn’t help herself, Jordan and anything regarding him felt more important than her father’s anger. She greeted the security guards she met as she walked out, then she began to wonder how she was going to walk to the gate because she was sure that a cab won’t be allowed in through the gates, typical elites in Costa, a cab was a sign of middle class. “Ma’am, do you need help getting to the gates?” A security guard asked her “Yes please, something urgent came up and I need to leave now but I can’t take the car because my family is still inside” she noticed she was rambling and kept quiet. The guard nodded sharply and signaled his finger and a black car drove by almost immediately. “He would drive you there, have a pleasant night Miss Stewart” of course he knew who she was, giving him a small smile, she said a quiet ‘thank you’ and entered the car and the car sped off. She was dropped off at the gate and her cab was waiting for her at the gate already, getting in she gave the cab driver her own address and he took off. She pulled out her phone and sent a message to Jordan telling him she was on her way and thanking him for whatever he sent to her. Twenty minutes later, she was getting down from the cab and making her way into her penthouse through the elevator, she had since been thinking about how mad her father would be and wondered if she should text her mom just at the same time her phone began vibrating and she saw that her mom was calling her, sighing she waited until she got out of the elevator before picking up her phone but the call had ended before she could pick it. She then remembered that if a package came for her, she should have asked at the reception area, not her house. Feeling like slapping herself she turned to go back to the elevator when she heard a ding and the other elevator opened up to reveal none other than Jordan. She stopped in her tracks as she gasped at his smiling face as he walked out of the elevator looking deliciously handsome in his sharp business suit. “Hey baby, miss me?” without thinking she launched herself at him and he caught her just in time as he chuckled. He heard her sniffing and released her a bit “Are you crying love?” he asked worried and she quickly shook her head as he wiped her tears. “No, I’m just overwhelmed to see you, I wasn’t expecting you until the day after tomorrow, I missed you so much you have no idea” she hugged him once again and he kissed her hair, her head barely reaching the under of his chin and she was in heels. “I missed you too baby” he whispered and they just stayed that way for couple of minutes before Ivy chuckled “We should go in” she said and moved out of his embrace but stayed close by his side as she punched in the password to her house and they entered. Her phone began vibrating once again and she remembered her family and she saw her mother’s face pop up on her screen. “Excuse me, I have to get this” she told him as he sat down on a sofa and he nodded as though to say ‘it’s no problem’ and she smiled a bit at him as she answered her call. “Hello Mom” “Next time you decide to pull this type of stunt will you at least inform me, so I know what to tell your dad?” Her Mother’s voice came in. “Sorry Mom, something important came up and I just had to-“ “Where are you?” Olivia cut her off “My house” she replied “Is Jordan around?” she asked “How did you know?” “It’s the only reason that I can think of that would make you test your dad that way, be grateful I saw you sneak out just in time to make up a story for your dad” “Thank you, mom” “Just don’t blow your cover, I told your dad you had sudden menstrual cramps and that you had left already” “Thanks mom, I owe you “ “Good night baby, don’t come to the mansion this night, stay at your place so it will be more believable” “Yes mom” and Ivy hung up to see Jordan looking at her curiously. “Am I missing something here?” he asked and she scrunched up her face “What do you mean?” “I’ve never heard you and your mom talk at least not in that manner before, did something happen?” She sat down on his thigh and rested her head on his chest “A lot happened but I’m starving right now, I didn’t get to eat before coming here” she said. “I was going to ask where you were coming from, you do look amazing tonight” “Thank you love, we were having one of these meaningless business dinner covered up by Christmas but I left as soon as I saw your text, that’s why Mom called, she wanted to know where I sneaked off to” “Oh well if it’s okay by you, I already ordered for food just before I came up here” he told her “Oh, thank you so much, I have been feeling hungry ever since I woke up today” he chuckled and kissed her hair and the bell rang and she squealed excitedly as she jumped off shouting food and he just shook his head at her as she skipped to the door and a waiter pushed the food cart into the house and left immediately. They settled together on the rug covered floor and talked and laughed as they ate and drank until they were satisfied. When they finished, they packed up all they had used and settled down in each other’s company on the balcony letting the cool night breeze relax their bodies. Jordan could feel that there was something disturbing Ivy because she was so tense. “Baby, are you alright?” he asked and she sighed out loud before pulling herself from him and readjusted herself so she was sitting opposite him. He looked worried as soon as he saw her serious expression. “I have to tell you something” she said and Jordan tensed a bit before releasing a forced breath and slowly nodded that she should continue.
