Thursday
I feel something tickling my nose and twitch, then bat my hand, hitting myself with whipped cream. I hear chuckles and open my eyes.
"You're dead, guys!" I scream, and they run out of the room.
"Kids, stop acting like you're eight and get ready for school!" Dad orders.
"But Dad th—"
"Stop being a drama queen, Mia. Save it for drama class," Matt cuts me off.
Note to self: prank the guys later.
I open the bathroom door and see Mason singing in the shower through the foggy glass.
'Don't you give up na na na'
'I won't give up na na na'
'Let me love you'
'Let me l— what the hell, Mia?!' he screams when he sees me.
"Lovely singing, bro, if you want to make scratchy sounds," I laugh.
"Get out!"
I chuckle and close the door.
Wait a minute; Mason loves to wash his hair with his favorite shampoo.
I smirk, head back to my room, grab my green dye, and sneak back to the bathroom, mixing the bottles. I'm pure evil.
I'll get Matt later.
**
"Mia!!!!"
I grin as I eat pancakes with Matt.
"What did you do now, sis?"
"Just wait," I reply.
Three... two... one.
Matt chokes on his pancake and coughs when he sees an angry Mason with green hair.
"You could have told me you were dying your hair! Is it to get Crystal's attention?" I smirk.
"I'll kill you," he glares at me.
"You can't kill me; you love me too much," I bat my eyes.
He glares one last time and leaves the room.
"That was epic," Matt high-fives me after he recovers. "Now go get ready for school."
I put on a pleated skirt, a white tank top, a red leather jacket, and boots, accessorizing with hoop earrings and makeup. My hair is pulled back with a thin headband; I look good.
I snap a quick picture and post it on Twitter before leaving my room with my bag and binder.
Mason wears a cap and hoodie, ripped jeans, and Converse.
"Let's roll," Matt smiles at us. I hop into the back seat while Mason takes the front.
"What's up with you, Mason? Why so quiet?" Asher asks.
"Nothing," he grumbles.
"I took revenge on him," I whisper.
"Is it bad like the last one?"
The last one involved him going to school with a big hole in his pants.
"Worse," I grin and pull off his hoodie and cap.
Asher laughs, tears in his eyes. "This is epic."
"What the hell, Mia?!" Mason snaps, putting his cap back on as Matt pulls into the school parking lot.
I get out, slinging my bag over my shoulder, and see Ally approaching. She's in a short skirt, a V-neck top, and a short jacket.
"Morning, Mia! I have news," she links her arm with mine and pulls me along.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see."
We head toward the chemistry lab. "But they aren’t—"
"I know," she cuts me off.
She opens the door, and we walk in to find Gloria texting on her phone.
"What’s she doing here?" we ask in unison, glaring at each other.
"You guys need to put your differences aside and work things out. Don't let your stupid fight ruin your friendship," Ally says, crossing her arms.
"I have nothing to say to her."
"Neither do I," Gloria turns away.
"Looks like we're finished here," I state, turning to leave.
"You're not leaving until you both apologize to each other," Ally stands in front of me.
"I shouldn't be the one apologizing; she called my crush pathetic," I snap.
"And you called me a b***h," Gloria snaps back.
"Because it's true!"
"Then yo—"
"Guys, stop!" Ally yells. "We need each other now more than ever since Claire is willing to fight, and Crystal gives me the creeps." Ally shivers.
"You're right. I don't know what games she's playing, but we need to keep an eye on her and Claire," Gloria nods. "I'm sorry, Mia; I shouldn't have snapped at you. You're right; I am a b***h," she sighs.
"I forgive you," I hug her.
"Group hug!" Ally says, wrapping her arms around us.
"Now let's show them we're back," Gloria demands, and we touch up our appearances before leaving the room.
I stand between my two friends as we walk down the hallway together, attracting attention. Ally flicks her hair as we pass Claire and a blonde girl.
"Looks like you guys made up," Derek smiles.
"Yep," I say, smiling at Gloria, who smiles back.
"So, Mia, when should I pick you up?" Alec asks, leaning against the locker beside mine.
"For what?"
"I asked you on a date yesterday."
"And I said hell no, so get lost," I snap.
"So, 7 then?"
This boy can't take no for an answer.
I roll my eyes and see one of my teammates approaching. I grin.
"Hey, Hannah, come here for a sec," I wave her over.
"Hey, Mia. Hello, Alec," she blushes.
"Hannah, Alec wants to take you on a date," I say with a smile.
"Really?" she asks, her sapphire eyes wide.
"Um..." I glare at him, and he coughs. "Yeah, sure."
"Then pick me up at 7. Here's my number," she hands him a piece of paper before joining her best friend.
"Why did you do that?" Alec glares at me.
"You're welcome! You get a date with a hot girl from the squad," I smirk.
"But I wanted you," he pouts.
"Sorry, I'm not interested. If you hurt Hannah, it's not just me who'll come after you—her brother's rugby teammates in college will too," I grin, watching him turn pale.
"W-what?" he stutters, and I laugh.
"So don’t play games," I warn.
****
I put on my blue and white uniform.
"I love this year's uniform; it's so much better than last year's," Ally says, tying her hair in a ponytail.
"I know, right?" Gloria agrees, tying her sneakers.
The new team members will get their uniforms tomorrow for the first game on Monday night, so they’re in gym clothes now.
"Let’s go, girls! We need to practice our routine for the game," Mrs. Smith says.
"Who's making the small pyramid with three people again?" Ally asks.
"Hannah, Gloria, and Crystal."
Hannah has been telling everyone about her date with Alec, and some have asked if I’m okay with it since there’s a rumor we were dating. I’m fine with it; I’m the one who set it up.
"Cool."
"Let’s go!" Mrs. Smith yells.
We gather in the gym and get to work. Ally and I run through the routine again, and everyone follows. Claire adds a new element, which Mrs. Smith likes.
She smirks at me before getting back in position.
"Now for the small pyramid," I instruct, and the three girls take their places.
"Dolphins!" we cheer, clapping and doing backflips.
"Alright, girls, that’s all for today," Mrs. Smith dismisses us.
As we leave the gym, Claire bumps into me.
"What the hell is your problem?" I snap.
"You are! First, you took my popularity in middle school, and now you took my captain position. But don’t worry, I’ll get them both back," she smirks as she walks away.
"She didn’t take it from you; she earned it! It wasn’t yours to begin with!" Ally shouts after her.
"I can’t believe my brother dated her for three years. Can you imagine seeing her at my house all the time?" I sigh.
"Yeah, and I caught her flirting with your older brother at that Fourth of July party last year," Gloria adds.
"Trent?" I gasp.
"Yeah, but his girlfriend scares her off," she laughs.
Monica can do that sometimes.
