Chapter 6

Stinky scorpion was brought to light within a short period, he was a member of an underground group and was also involved in a series of murder cases. He was charged to court and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Stacia and Isla were bailed after their parents arrived and pleaded on their behalf, I had to let go knowing that we’re all young adults and I don’t want their life to be ruined, besides we won’t be seeing each other after this week. The detective let out a deep sigh and commended my act of forgiveness but he still insisted that they should be locked away for a week just to get their sanity back. The parents had no other choice than to leave and wait for the one week given to them by the detective. “Why did you do that?” Myra asked just as we stepped into the ride we ordered. “What do you mean?” I retorted with a raised feigning ignorance of what she was saying. She huffed and smacked my shoulder. “Pretending to not be aware of what I’m saying won’t help you” she mumbled with a gloomy face. “You know why I did it, I don’t want their future to be ruined because of me. Besides we won’t meet again after we leave Harvard” I explained but Myra wasn’t ready to take what I have said. “Come on, those sluts nearly ruined your life and you’re still thinking about their future. Are you even thinking well? If their life got ruined it’s none of your business they brought that upon themselves. Your life could have been ruined instead and you’re here thinking of them, this is pathetic” She hissed and placed her hand at the edge of the window while gazing at the buzzing street of Massachusetts. “I know that my life would have been ruined but I’m not like them. I will just be like them if I had proceeded in ruining their future” I uttered, Myra ignored me still gazing out of the window. I let out a deep sigh and decided to let her be as she would come around after some time. At least she should understand that I’m not evil-minded like Stacia and Isla, moreover, I escaped from their vicious plot, so there is no need to push the case further. “Screech” the driver pulled over in front of the school, Myra stepped down and slammed the door. I paid the driver and ran after her. “Hey! Wait for me” I screamed, still running after her. Abruptly, I strained my injured butt which made the shooting pain recur making me fall to the ground, “ah!” I screamed as a drop of tear fell down my cheek. Myra came to halt and turned back to me. “You clumsy fool. You can’t even take care of yourself, why the f**k are you running after me?" She strode towards me and assisted me to stand. “I know that you won’t stay mad at me for so long because you love me the most” I blurted out as we strode into our hostel, Almyra rolled her eyes and ignored me. Soon we arrived at our hostel where she told me that she had gotten a call for a resume from one of the companies where she applied for work in New Jersey. “Wow, this is good news. When are you resuming?” I inquired excitedly. “This is already the weekend, I’m planning on resuming by Monday. My brother has prepared an apartment for me in New Jersey, so I just have to pack up and drive to my new apartment” my face fell. Although I’m excited that she has gotten a job, I’m not ready to part with her now, she is the only friend I have now apart from Charlotte who was my best friend. She’d left with her family to Australia to expand their business, I’ve never heard from her since they left three years ago. “Hey! You look sad. Ain’t you happy that I’ve gotten my dream job?” Myra asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Of course I am, it’s just that I’m going to miss you and I don’t want you to leave” I uttered truthfully. “I would miss you too sweetheart, I still have to go, I'll try to visit you whenever I have the chance” I nodded in response as I had no choice other than to agree. I can’t be the one to pull her back from pursuing her dream whereas I’m striving hard to chase mine. It will be nice to have a friend who is also successful. She kissed my forehead and embraced me. The next day, I assisted Myra to pack up her things as she was leaving for New Jersey in twenty minutes. She had to leave on time to meet her flight but she overslept after we drank from celebrating her new job. However, my evil mind kept on praying for her to miss her flight so that she could stay back with me. Atlas, my prayers didn’t work, the ride we ordered arrived shortly. I had to carry some of her luggage to the trunk, cursing softly. “Thanks, Audrey. Remember to take care of yourself. Don’t be too good” she asserted from the window of the cab as she bid me goodbye. I groaned loudly and went back into our hostel, now it’s all me, I can’t wait to also move into my apartment and invite Andrew for a night out. I’ve missed him so much. We both pathed when I got into Harvard and he had to travel out of the states to England to continue his studies. We’d only FaceTime or speak on Skype. That has been how we’ve been in touch for five years. Finally, I’m graduating and I can’t wait to see him. I beamed happily and threw myself on the bed.
