CHAPTER 2 BLOOD MOON RUN

1193 Words
SAFFRON'S P.O.V I was still in shock at the possibility of what could have just happened, I hadn't even had the chance to completely register everything. "Saffron, are you okay?" Maddox's deep voice asked, taking me out of my thoughts. I whipped my head around to see his beautiful green eyes looking into my caramel toned eyes. "Yeah, he is no harm. He just likes the chase." I replied. "Well, there won't be anymore chasing for him, you're mine." He said with a smile spreading across his beautifully structured face making my heart beat rapidly in my chest. 'Lick his face!' My wolf demanded making me realize I hadn't had the chance to communicate with her. 'Hi.' Was all I could muster at the moment. 'Hi Saffron, now lick the face please.' She said with need. 'What's your name?' I asked, hoping to distract her from her odd request. 'Oh, right. The name is Ginger.' 'Oh cute, like the spice!' I said before closing my eyes and mentally face palming myself for my dumb response. 'Precisely, just like your name is a stone.' She responded sassily. "Everything okay?" Maddox's voice asked. "Sorry, yeah. With just now turning 18 a lot of changes happened very quickly." "I see, you must've met your wolf. She came forward very quickly, sometimes it takes others hours before their wolf presents itself. What's her name?" He asked, curiously. "Luckily it didn't take her long. I was really wanting to go on that Blood Moon Midnight run. But her name is Ginger." I said with a smile. "That's a wonderful name." His compliment made Ginger wag her tail in excitement. "I just wonder what she'll look like," I replied excitedly. "I am sure she will be as beautiful as you are." He said as he moved a strand of my long brown hair from my face to behind my ear, an electric wave rushing from where our skin touched made me blush. His lips slowly dipped down, capturing my own. The shock waves were electrifying. A feeling I hoped to never forget. His lips moved in sync with mine as we became one. It was a passionate yet loving kiss. One that would live rent free in my head for the rest of my life. He wasn't my first kiss, but it was definitely the best one I have ever had. He pulled my body closer to his, his warmth radiating all over my body. A sudden needy desire consumes me. "Uhhmm." A cough sounded out making us break away from the kiss earlier than I would have liked. "Alright you two, we have a run to get to," Donovan spoke from beside us, reminding me that we weren't alone. I backed up, completely embarrassed by my actions. "Are you ready for your first run?" Maddox then asked. "I am dreading the pain that comes with the first shift, I heard it's brutal. Otherwise, I am beyond excited for my first midnight run." I replied truthfully. We all walked out together as we made our way over to the forest that was directly behind the bar. Upon entering the forest the sounds of howls could be heard from all around. Excitement flooded me with anticipation of my first run. The night breeze was perfect, the moon was full and bright red. Showing that the Blood Moon was here. Maddox made his way to a rock he always stood on before the pack shifted for their midnight run. I had been to countless runs, I just never could actually run with them. I remember all the times growing up I would come with my family to these gatherings. I was so small, maybe 4 years old, running on my two small legs trying to catch up to the wolves while I physically howled at the sky like them. Little memories that I would cherish forever. "Welcome everyone, to our Blood Moon Midnight Run!" Maddox said, his voice echoing all around the forest. Many people were cheering while others were already transformed into their wolves howling out. He continued to talk, when a sudden movement of someone running at me caught my attention. I quickly turned to look before Chrisma's body crashed into my own. "HAPPY f*****g BIRTHDAY, b***h!" She screamed, bear hugging me tightly. "I... Can't... Breath!" I screamed. "If you can talk, you can breathe." She said sassily as she released her tight hold on me. "Thanks," I said breathlessly. "Are you ready or what!?" She nearly screamed, making my ears hurt from the loudness. With having a wolf now, my hearing has suddenly enhanced. Sounds were more loud and sensitive than before. "My ears!" I hollered out, and a few bystanders looked at us disapprovingly for talking while the Alpha was. "Sorry." She whispered. "Are you ready or what?" She asked again, more quiet. "Kind of scared for the first shift actually," I replied honestly. "Girl, so was I! I ain't gonna lie, the s**t hurts like hell. But the reward in the end is well worth the pain." Pain was never an issue for me, I had a high tolerance. My brother always called me a war machine because I stopped at nothing and very little inflicted pain on me. "ALRIGHT, IS EVERYONE READY?" I heard Maddox scream out to the pack before many hooted while others howled. 'Ginger, how do I do this?' I asked my wolf, completely at a loss for what to do. 'Just think of me, I will do the rest.' She replied confidently. I stripped naked, and everyone else did the same. Nudity was nothing new to our kind, it was actually more normal than not. I started thinking about what it would feel like to be a wolf, the wind blowing in my fur as I raced through the woods at maximum speed. Before I knew it I could feel my body reshaping. However, in comparison, the best way to explain the pain was how one would describe the feeling of getting a sticker on their foot. My paws suddenly hit the ground, I looked to the sky as I let out the most beautiful howl I had ever heard. Everyone around was now staring, confusion on their faces. I pranced in place waiting for Maddox's command. However, his eyes were glued to me. Finally, Lycan, Maddox's wolf, howled out before leading his pack on the midnight run. I ran as fast as I could as trees wisped by, making my heart pound in excitement. I felt more free than I ever had in my life. After what seemed like hours, the night sky began to turn today. As the midnight run had finally come to an end, I shifted back to get dressed. I suddenly felt a presence lurking in the darkness, like I was being watched. I looked into the woods seeing a set of eyes appear before quickly disappearing. "How was your first run?" Maddox asked. Making me look away from the woods. "Nothing could beat it," I replied happily. "Oh, I know something." He said, pulling me into his arms as our lips crashed against one another.
