Chapter 1
Hi, I am Lacey Matthew, I am 8 years old and the daughter of Hunter and Hayley Matthews, who are the Beta's of the Blood River Pack. I have long blonde hair and icy blue eyes. I am not sure where I get my eyes from, since both my parents have green eyes. I am up in my room sitting at my desk doing the last bit of homework I have left when I hear my mom yell up the stairs at me.
"Lacey Sweetheart, it is time to leave "
I am spending the night at my best friend Hannah's house.
Once a month, my father likes to take my mother on a date night, so she never forgets how much he loves her.
Picking up my overnight bag, I headed down the stairs to my waiting parents.
"Why can I not just walk down the street to Hannah's house on my own, dad?” I asked,
“Because We need to let Cheryl (Hannah's mom) know where we are going and how to reach us. Just in case something happens, that is why little moonbeam," my dad responds.
"Really dad? Nothing is going to happen, plus they can just mind link you." I rolled my eyes at my dad.
“Dad please, I am 8 years old now, stop calling me little moonbeam."
"Never," he said, laughing.
'Let's go,” my mom says, pushing us out the door."
We pulled into Hannah's driveway, my dad stopped the truck and I jumped out. I ran to the door and rang the doorbell. Hannah and her mom Cheryl opened the door, Hannah and I embraced with a hug.
"Sleepover," we both yelled, laughing.
Our parents are laughing at us.
"Here, Cheryl, this is the name of the restaurant and club we are going to tonight," my dad says to Cheryl, handing her a piece of paper.
I hugged my parents goodbye, told them I loved them. I will see them tomorrow.
Then Hannah and I ran up to her room. Little did I know that would be the last time I would ever see, hug, or talk to my parents again.
“OH, MY GOD!" Lacey, did you see Blake today?
“He is cute,” Hannah says.
“Yuck, Hannah, you think Blake is cute?" I laughed.
We spent the night laughing and talking about boys before falling asleep. Hannah liked boys. To me, they were just disgusting.
“Lacey, Lacey, I hear and feel someone shaking me awake." I yawned and opened my eyes. Cheryl is sitting beside me, on the bed.
"What? What time is it? “I asked, rubbing my eyes.
“Just after 1 a .m. dear,” Cheryl says, I saw she was crying.
"Oh Ms. Cheryl," I said, sitting up and taking her hand in mine,
"What is wrong? “I asked,
Cheryl looks at me and starts to cry harder.
"Mom? “Hannah says, coming over to my bed.
"What is it, mom? What happened?"
“Oh, Lacey dear, I am so, deeply sorry,” she said, pulling me into a hug.
"What? What are you sorry for, Ms. Cheryl?" I asked, feeling confused.
She pulls away from me.
"Oh, Lacey, it is your parents."
“What about my parents?" I half yelled, making her jump and cry more.
“Oh Lacey, I am sorry, but your parents were driving back to the pack territory when they were attacked by a bunch of rogues."
I sat there looking at Ms. Cheryl crying
“They pushed your parent's car over the cliff," she said.
" Your parents are dead, Lacey, I am so sorry dear."
I sat there in shock; I could not believe what I had just heard. The next thing I knew, Hannah was hugging me, crying. This cannot be real, they cannot be dead, not my parents.
nooo!
