7 KILLIAN I paced in front of Drake’s desk. That had become a habit I couldn’t shake. It had been three days since Lavinia had been taken, and we were no closer to finding her. Deep down, I knew the warlocks wouldn’t hurt her. What Drake had told me about them needing her was true. Still, that didn’t make me any less worried. And I loathed being here, waiting. “I can’t take this anymore,” I said through gritted teeth. “I know.” Drake stood by the narrow end table to the side of his office, where a silver tray with several bottles and glasses rested. He picked up a bottle of whiskey and poured a good dose in two glasses. He brought one glass to me and held on to the other. “That’s why I’m sending you to a meeting.” I stared at him. “A meeting?
