4 KILLIAN I glanced around the vault. I'd thought this place would be secure, but the open stone room had high ceilings and archways leading to tunnels snaking underneath the castle. Anyone could get into it. The two black boxes were on a wooden shelf between two archways, shoved there among several other items that I had never seen before. It seemed DuMoir Castle had more treasures than I ever imagined. I picked up the boxes, surprised by their weight. They weighed less than a feather, and their material was almost as smooth as velvet. I had touched them before, briefly, but I still expected them to be heavier, rougher. I held tight to the boxes and walked out of the vault, taking the main tunnel back to the castle.
