Elias's p.o.v

I stare out the window as everything is being set up in the backyard for my baby girl's birthday party. Ella bosses everyone around to make it perfect for her. She even got Victoria and her family to take Evelyn with them for the morning so it can be a surprise for her when she comes home. Ever since the night we spent together, Ella and I have gotten closer. Of course she won't sleep over, but we sneak kisses and touches here and there whenever we can, which isn't as often as I wish we could, because I have to work and I have Evelyn most of the time. I'm actually afraid that Ella might get tired of this arrangement.

I came home early this morning and I am supposed to be asleep, but I can't take my eyes off her. Like if she feels it, she looks up and our eyes lock with each other. I smirk. She walks over to me. I leave Elias in his bedroom to take a nap. I don't want him to be too tired during the birthday party. I oversee every single little detail, needing this party to be perfect for Evie. Once everything is set up and ready I head upstairs and shower and get dressed in a princess shirt and a hot pink skirt Ella asked me to wear. She chose my outfit. I also made her a rainbow tutu and a matching birthday shirt. She wanted us to match today. She chose this for us to wear today and who was I to say no to her. I think it is so sweet of her to want to include me on her special day. I comb my hair and straighten it and add lipgloss and do a quick makeup look, nothing too bold or bright . I don't want to look like a clown. Once I am happy with my look, I head downstairs as the door bell rings. I open it and it is an older woman. "Where is my granddaughter?" she asks. "Evelyn? She will be here soon. We kept her away so we could set up and surprise her." I say. "So, you are the help?" she asks and raises an eyebrow. "I am her babysitter, Ella" I say and extend my hand to shake hers, but she rolls her eyes and walks towards the kitchen and completely ignores me unless she wants me to do something for her. I take out charcuterie boards that I made for the adults to snack on. I make sure the drinks are nice and cold. I also made a kid-friendly charcuterie board. Everything looks great. I smile. "Where is my son-in-law?" The woman asks me. "He was taking a nap. He worked the graveyard shift and just got home a couple of hours ago." I tell her. "Well, the party is about to start in 30 minutes. Go wake him up." she tells me, and I nod and head upstairs. Anything to get away from her.

With the door locked behind me, I get closer to the bed. I notice Elias never put his clothes back on, so this will be easy. I uncover him and begin stoking his c*ck. I am about to shower, will be out in a bit." Elias replies. "Who is the help?" he whispers? I shrug. I know she is talking about me, but for some reason I don't want him to know. I don't want to make things awkward today out of all days. I hurry and clean myself up while he showers. I suddenly feel like what we are doing is wrong. I sneak out while he gets dressed. Luckily, the woman is not upstairs. I head down and she corners me right away. "Where were you?" she asks me. "I was tidying up the rooms upstairs." I say and she gives me a dirty look, "I need you to run to the store and grab these things." she says and it is a long list of random items that we do not need for the party, but I smile. "Okay, I will have these things here for you soon." I tell her and I walk outside and place an order for delivery. Victoria texted me that she was on her way so I decide to wait for her outside.

3 cars pull up. Victoria and Linccoln with Evelyn and baby Alex, Alex Sr or Monster, Vanessa, Verlene and her husband and Julian, Amy, Valeria, Ant and their daughter in the last car. Everyone greets me and I quickly tell them about the mean grandmother from h3ll who will clearly be a villain in my next book. Vanna and Dani pull up on a motorcycle. I let everyone inside as the older woman rushes me, asking where the things she asked for are. I quickly tell her they are being delivered soon and, I hate the way she completely ignored Evelyn, but I bring her in for a happy birthday hug, even though we already celebrated yesterday. I got her a huge cupcake and sang to her. It was our own little party. Just the two of us. Evelyn runs outside and luckily Victoria reads the room and hands me baby Alex and Vanessa gets the woman in conversation, so she backs up and leaves me alone, since she seems to have a problem with me. Elias walks down the stairs, looking delicious. Our eyes meet and he smirks and the butterflies in my stomach flip and dance around. I swear that is what it feels like. "Oh Eli, my dear son-in-law." the older woman says, and the door bell rings and I begin opening the door to everyone who shows up. I get introduced to a bunch of people. Guys from the fire department, friends of Elias and Evelyn's class mates. So many people show up and I take a break and go into the restroom and silently cry...of happiness, of course. I am glad that so many people showed up for her. I wipe the tears from my eyes and I walk outside. Everyone is outside, except for Elias and two other guys who are in the kitchen talking. "Ella, are you okay?" Elias asks me once he sees my face. Sh*t, I thought I was cool. "Yes, I'm fine." I say, and smile. "Come, I want you to meet my coworkers," he says with a smile on his face. He even holds my hand for a moment, but I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. We haven't even talked about anything much, so it's best that people don't get the wrong idea. I move and he lets my hand go and I walk to the side as he introduces me to a man named James and another one named Bud. "Wow, you look a whole lot like someone I know" James tells me. I shift from one foot to another, feeling uncomfortable. "Bud, who does she look like?" he asks his friend. "like beautiful Cali Bella" he says. "don't call her that, just call her Cali" James tells him. "I forget that you love her since you won't admit it." Bud says and I am laughing at how silly they are. "Don't tell me Captain John has more kids floating around." James says as he looks at me one more time. "I'm sorry you just look too much like Cali. We should get them together to meet. You need to bring her to a Sunday dinner," he tells Elias, who laughs and nods. "I will bring her next Sunday." he says

Elias's p.o.v

We head outside and Evelyn has Ella do all of these activities with her. Watching them together brings me so much happiness, until I see not only Bethany, Evelyn's grandmother approach them, but also Mitch. I see them speak and Ella frowns, but nods and walks away. I watch my little girl's shoulders sag and she looks extremely sad and disappointed, so I walk over to see what is going on? "Evie, what's wrong? For a birthday girl, you don't look happy?" I ask her. "Grandma sent Ella away to serve drinks." she says, and I turn around and don't see Ella. She is a guest here, so why did Bethany ask her to serve drinks? "Oh, hey Elias. Great party." Mitch says "Elias, where is the server girl? The guests need refills and appetizers." she says, and I look at her in horror. "What server girl?" I ask, because I don't think Ella hired anyone to serve and she damn sure is not the server. This is a nice party, but clearly everyone has hands and can serve themselves. "The baby sitter" she says, "Ella is not working tonight, Bethany, she is a guest." I say "Oh, nonsense Elias, women like that are only good to serve. Allow Mrs. Bethany to put her to work and make this party the party of the year." Mitch says. I watch them both laughing. "It's a little kid's party, not a wedding or big formal event." I tell them and they both brush me off. I see Ella holding a tray and I walk over there and take it out of her hands and put it down on the table. "Baby, I'm sorry, Bethany was out of line. You are a guest here, not a server. I just want you to enjoy the party." I tell her, knowing that it is her birthday and she still hasn't told me. I have no idea why, but Evelyn and I have a surprise for her. I don't need anyone ruining her day. "Here" I say, handing her a drink and sending her off with her friends. I don't miss the way James and Bud do not take their eyes off her. Earlier, they said she looks like Cali, one of Captain John's daughters, and even I can't lie, she does, but I hate the way they are looking at her. Like they want to eat her up, more so Bud. I know James is in love with his so-called best friend Cali, even if he won't admit it.

Ella brings out the birthday cake and everyone sings Happy Birthday to my babygirl. The smile on her face is contagious. I asked Victoria if she could bring another birthday cake so we can sing to Ella as it is her actual birthday today. It was actually Evelyn's idea when I told her that today was Ella's birthday. She thought it would be a nice surprise. We have been able to keep it a secret. I am excited to see Ella's reaction. After everyone sings to Evelyn, Ella has people lined up to take pictures with her. I swear Ella thinks about everything. I would never think about people taking pics with her. Bethany stands next to her and doesn't move, even when people she does not know ask to take a picture with my little girl. Finally, Ella says she will cut the cake and I hear my little girl shout. "Ella, wait" she says, and I bring the cake out with candles lit up and everyone begins singing. I watch Evelyn sit Ella down and she climbs on her lap. Ella holds my daughter and kisses her head. Watching this makes me so weak. What is this woman doing to me? Holding my daughter like she belongs to her.

Ella looks at Evelyn and they both blow out the candles to her cake together. It is such a sight to watch. My heart squeezes at how much love they both have for each other. Vanessa and Verlene begin handing out slices of cake as Victoria takes pictures of Evelyn and Ella. I watch from back here, but they call me over to pose in a picture with them. "Daddy, come on. Take a picture with us. We are the birthday girls," she says. Victoria quickly takes a couple of pictures and I ask her to send them all to me and she nods. We are talking when Bethany talks over fuming. "Can I speak to you...in private" she asks me. I nod and she begins walking upstairs, so I follow her. She walks into Evelyn's room and begins going in on me. "What was that Elias?" she asks me. "What was what?" I ask. "You bought that woman a birthday cake and sang to her. This is my grand daughter's birthday party, she doesn't need to share it with the help." she says, and I see red. "Bethany. Evelyn's birthday was yesterday and Ella spent the day with her. She bought my daughter a cake and made her day special. I had to work. You didn't even bother to call her. Ella is the one who spent the day with her. The least we could do today is buy her her own birthday cake and sing to her" I say. "You pay her to do these things Elias." she says. I sigh. "Elias, what would my daughter say if she found out you were parading around with the help?" she tells me. I rub my hand down my face. "Plus, that woman is not who you think she is. Your co-worker Mitch told me that she saw your babysitter hit Evelyn. We should have her arrested." she tells me. She can't be serious!
