Chapter 6Ancient Egypt
The first town, Khata’na, not far from Avaris, maintained several large granaries. On the way to Khata’na, Micha and Eli passed by farmers using the light plow and cattle. Rotating crops of wheat, corn, emmer and barley, the farmers tilled their plots, and farms dotted near the river. The farming culture remained unchanged even with the Hyksos invasion with the exception of the introduction of poppy from Mesopotamia. Poppy cultivation occurred in small clumps, sold through traders sailing from Minos and Tyre, while Tyre developed purple dye for sale.
After Khata’na, Micha visited two more towns. Micha checked the stores of grain, showing the seal of Yusuf and Pharaoh as authority to do so. At each stop, Eli replenished their food and water rations.
