Alterlude #6Janice Thomas walked into Doctor David Winter's office for her monthly scheduled appointment. “Hi, Shireen,” she said to the receptionist. “Sorry I'm late. You know how it is getting here without using doorports—takes awhile.” “Please have a seat, Janice. Doctor Winters is with another patient.” Janice moved away from the window. No one else was in the office, just the secretary behind the window, which snicked shut as Janice found a seat. “She closed the window because she wants to talk about you,” a voice said from across the room. When Janice looked, no one was there. “Oh, just shut your trap,” she replied, feeling annoyed. “You don't need to be here; there's nothing wrong with you,” said a voice beside her.
