Chapter Seventeen - Liar!

1306 Words
PJ    I had my eye on Scarlett’s place from the apartment I have rented across from her. She never knew I had rented it. I had been watching her most of the night, waiting for Caleb to leave, but he never left. And the thought of him being in there with her made a fit of anger run through me. She is not meant to be f*****g him! That is not part of the plan. She is supposed to make him fall for her, not be screwing him. And I knew personally all it will take is one time with Scarlett and he will want more, she affects men that way.    The rented apartment doesn’t have much in it, but I got some curtains up so I can spy without getting caught. I can’t believe Scarlett is letting him sleepover; the anger doesn’t seem to be subsiding. I need to get over to that house, pronto. He needs to leave!    It is nearly nine-thirty and still no movement from the front door, surely, he needs to leave soon if he is working today. I set my camera back up so I can go to the toilet and make myself a coffee as I don’t know how long I am going to be here for. Upon coming back with my coffee, I check the camera playback and still nothing, no Caleb leaving. I swear I wanted badly to go over there and drag him out myself, but then that would blow the cover, and we can’t have that because there is a lot of money involved. If I mess up, I will not get paid.    I retake my seat, and at just about ten a.m., her front door opens. Scarlett was standing still in only her nightie, giggling. I watch as Caleb reaches for her, pulling her in and kissing her. My fists clench at my side as I watch them. The way Scarlett was kissing him was enough to make me lose my mind. I can see the connection they have, and it’s something I have always wanted with her and never gotten no matter how much I have tried over the years.   After sitting fuming over what I have just seen I get ready to go over, grab the keys and pull the door shut behind me with a slam. I go straight across to her house and round the back door, I take my keys out my pocket and open the back door quietly, closing it behind me and locking it. I go through to the living room and take a seat on the couch. I was waiting patiently. I can hear floorboards creaking above me then I listen to her coming down the stairs. Scarlett walks past the living room door before double backing on herself and looking into the living room.   “Hello, sweetheart,” I greeted her with a smile, “Come and join me,” I said, patting the seat next to me on the couch.   “How did you get in here?” Scarlett asked, looking at me, confused.   “I thought by now you knew anything was possible with me?” I said, smugly.    “Again, how the hell did you get in here?” She said, the annoyance in her voice evident.    “I had one of my people sneak in through a window and take a spare key,” I said, “You should be careful where you put things, “I added.    “Or you should stay the hell out of my house,” She snapped.    Oh, well isn’t she feisty this morning? I gave her a firm look; she should know better by now not to talk to me that way.    “Sit the f**k down Scarlett, before I make you,” I hissed.   “This is my house, my couch and my rules.” She hissed at me.   “I told you to sit the f**k down.” I raised my voice as I stood up.   “OK, PJ, I will.” Scarlett whimpered before sitting down.   She has never liked getting shouted at, but sometimes she just needs a good telling before she will do what she is told.    “Did you get any more information on our target at your dinner date last night?” I asked with raised eyebrows.   “I didn’t find out too much; he is quite quiet and doesn’t give much away.” She said.   “So when did he leave last night? Did you invite him to stay for some dessert Scarlett?” I asked calmly.    “He left about ten p.m.,” She said.    Liar! But I never wanted her knowing that I had been watching so I would play along with her lies.    “Pretty early then? Does he seem like he is falling for you yet?” I asked.    I knew he was. I could see it with the way he acts with her.    “Um, I think so,” She said, nervously.    “Hmm, then keep doing what you are doing,” I said, “When are you seeing him again?” I added.    “I am not sure yet, both busy with work for the next couple of days,” She said.    “Then make time to see him,” I said sternly.   “I will speak to him tomorrow and make a plan to meet again in the next couple of days,” she said sighing at me.   “I don’t want to have to come back and check up on you Scar!” I told her firmly.   “You don’t have to PJ and I will not keep anything from you, whatever goes on between myself and Caleb you will know about it,” Scarlett said, looking me straight in the eye.   “Do you promise me Scar?” I asked.   “Yes, of course, PJ.” She said, smiling at me.   Another lie, because if she were going to tell me everything as she said, she would have told me about Caleb staying over and what really happened between them last night. And by the way, they were kissing this morning; it is evident that something has happened between them.    “What time do you start today?” I asked.    “Not until eight p.m., I am on nightshift,” She said.    “OK, then you will meet me at six for dinner,” I said firmly.    I see her going to refuse me, but I gave her a stern look, and she nodded.    “Good, and we don’t need to talk about work, it can be just dinner as friends, we are still friends, aren’t we?” I said smirking.    “Yeah,” She said with a small smile.    We weren’t, not really. I was her boss, but I will take what I can.  “I’ve got things to do today, so I’ve got to go,” I said as I began walking towards the front door, “Later baby,” I grinned unlocking the door.   “Bye, PJ,” She said.   I can’t go back over to the flat I’m renting as Scarlett will maybe see me, so I’ll just go and grab myself a coffee at the closest coffee shop, help pass a couple of hours.    I need to make sure that I don’t give Scarlett a hard time tonight or she won’t tell me what I need to know about what happened last night. I would play the charming guy for the night. She fell for it all before, and maybe she will fall for it again, then again I think over the years she has learned what is real and what is fake with me.    I will be keeping a close eye on both her and Caleb, Scarlett doesn’t need to know that.
