Chapter Seven - Getting to know each other

1218 Words
Scarlett    I smirked to myself as Caleb walked away. I know I was a little mean, teasing him but I couldn’t help myself. I watch as he heads over to his colleague, the two of them talking. His colleague was looking over at me as they did. Could they be any more obvious that they were talking about me? I let out a small giggle and got back to reading my book until Caleb was ready to come over and join me. I don’t know why Caleb has drawn me in, the way he has, but I couldn’t help myself. I could feel his eyes on me now and then as he served other customers. I made sure to flash my best smile at him or send a quick wink his way.   I don’t know the last time I had these thoughts or feelings towards someone. I never get myself too involved as they never work out. My past is too messy to try and explain to someone, so I keep my life simple by just avoiding relationships altogether. Caleb though, there is something about his attitude and very handsome looks that keeps drawing me in more and more. I don’t want to get him involved in crazy, but I think I need to.   “So how long do I have you for?” I asked Caleb as he sat down opposite me.   “I have thirty minutes to enjoy your company,” He said, with a charming smile, playing on his full, kissable looking lips.    “I will take what I can get,” I said softly.   “How has your week been since I saw you last,” He asked.    It would seem we are using small talk to start with.  “Busy, but that is how I like it,” I said, “And you?” I added.    “What is it you do?” He asked, “And my week has been pretty good,” He added.    I was not great with small talk, but we have to start somewhere, right?    “I am a paramedic at Portree hospital,” I replied.    “Really? Wow, that’s incredible, how do you find that?” He said.    “I love my job,” I said.   The next five minutes questions were being asked back and forth, essential yet straightforward questions. I was curious where he was from because he sure was not Scottish like myself.    “I am curious, Caleb, where do you come from because it isn’t here?” I asked.    “No, I am from England, moved here a few years ago,” He said.    I sensed a nervousness to his tone when he told me this. It made me think, maybe I am not the only one with secrets.    “What brought you up here to sunny Skye?” I asked curiously.   Caleb looked quite on edge when I asked him why he is here. He took a breath and started to answer my question.    “It’s quite a long story, and I don’t want to bore you with it just now. I really fancied a change from the life I had down in England, so I looked at a map and decided this was where I wanted my life to be,” Caleb said looking down stirring his coffee.   “if you don’t want to talk about your past it’s fine; I understand as there are parts of my life that I don’t want to remember,” I replied smiling, hoping to make him feel more comfortable.   He smiled back at me, and I could see a glint of relief in his eyes.   “Let’s talk more about what we do in daily life. I know you are a paramedic, but what else do you do in your spare except stalk me?” Caleb said, laughing so hard that people started looking at us.   “Stalk you? Well aren’t you living in a fantasy world,” I laughed, “You wish I were stalking you,” I added.   “Hmm, maybe I do,” He said, a sexy little smirk creeping on his lips.    I swear there was a part of me that badly wanted to reach over this table, grab his tee and pull his lips to mine, and kiss him with everything I had in me, probably best that I don’t, well not this soon anyway.    “That is what I thought,” I said, “But to answer your question, I enjoy working out, reading soppy books and spending time with my friends when I can,” I added.    “Me too! You can’t beat a good work-out to release stress; it is one of the best ways to do so,” He said.   “Maybe, but not the best way,” I said, “There is an even better way to release stress, but this isn’t the place or time to talk about that,” I added.    Yes, I had a dirty mind, I couldn’t help it, and he was so easy to get too. I watch as his grip tightened on the table as I say these words to him.  “Mmm, yes,” Is all he managed to get out.    I laughed loudly, reaching over the table and placing my hand gently over his.    “I am sorry, I will stop now,” I said laughing, “What else do you enjoy doing outside of work?” I added.   “I tend to keep a pretty quiet life, just working, going to the gym and having the odd night out with friends,” Caleb said a shy look on his face, “I try my best to have an easy, relaxing life with no drama,” He added, this time with a bright smile.    “That’s like me, no need for drama in my life,” I smiled back at him “What do you like to do at the gym?” I asked curiously.   “I go to a personal trainer once a week, and I do self-defence once a week. I used to do more, but I just don’t have the time now. I am the assistant manager.” He said with the dorkiest smile on his lips.    He is getting more at ease as the conversation is flowing. I could feel myself all warm and happy inside. I haven’t felt this relaxed with anyone in a long time.    “I would love to do something like that, but I don’t have much time for it,” I said, “I can fit a work-out in at the gym, but nothing more than that,” I added.    “Yes, it is good for the mind, body and soul,” He smiled.    I was enjoying my time with him, but I knew his break was nearly over, much to my disappointment. I couldn’t keep him away from his work for too long. I can always come back another day.    “As much as I hate to say it, I need to get back to work,” He said, a sadness to his tone.    “I know,” I pouted.    He sighed, and we finished up our conversation.    “Will you come by again?” He asked, hopeful.    I smiled and nodded. I told him to wait for a moment, grabbing a napkin and a pen from my bag, and writing my phone number down.    “Give me a text or a call sometime,” I said.    “I will, and soon,” He said, “I will see you soon, beautiful,” He added.    “Looking forward to it, handsome,” I said.    He gave me a quick nod of the head and one last view of that gorgeous smile before he hesitantly walked away. That was when I noticed how tight and firm his ass looked in his work trousers. I got up and started to head towards the front of the shop and turned around for a cheeky glance. I caught Caleb staring at me, he gave me a wave, and I turned and left.    Damn sexy English man!
