It was Wednesday, and I still hadn’t heard from Alex. Was she backing down from my challenge? No, she looked determined.
“Good morning, class. Today, I will assign your partners for the summer project,” Mr. Lewis, our biology teacher, announced. I spotted Alex's friend but no sign of Alex. Where was she?
The door opened, and Alex strolled in with a big smile. “Ms. James, where were you?” Mr. Lewis demanded. “Class started five minutes ago.”
“I had to take care of some girl stuff,” she waved him off, and he turned red.
“Are you sure you don’t want to take the day off? The principal would understand,” Mr. Lewis replied.
“And miss my favorite class? Nah, I’m fine,” she said, taking her seat.
