Shaking my head as I leave my father's office, I try to make sense of the words that he just said. In one breath, he threatened to snap her neck, and in the next, he wants me to bring her for dinner. He is a lunatic.
Walking toward the front door of the pack house, I hear my mother's voice calling out for me.
"Lucifer," she yells.
I cringe when she calls me by my full name, but I still turn around to greet her. "Mother," I say as she wraps her arms around me.
My arms hang limply at my sides while my mother squeezes me like she hasn't seen me in months.
"The pack house isn't the same without you," she says with tears building in her eyes.
She finally releases me, and I stand a little taller. "Father is not ready to let me come home yet."
