Worry crossed my face and she seemed to pick up on it.
“Oh! Would you like to hold her now?! I’ve just been taking care of her while you were asleep, you were asleep for a few days. She’s a lovely little girl!” Sara said cheerfully. She seemed to talk a lot, which I wasn’t used to.
“Yes please,” I replied simply.
I held out my arms for my toddler and felt relieved as she let her come to me. Ersa happily climbed into my arms and started to play with strands of my raven hair. She seemed happy and healthy; she must’ve been telling the truth when she said that she was taking good care of her. I hugged her small body and inhaled her welcoming scent, I rarely got to see her since the day that she was born. My captor told me that it would be a privilege if he ever let me see her, she barely knew who I was but she could sense that I was her mother and trusted me.
I finally took notice of the other people in the room with us. There was a man in his mid-twenties with familiar gray eyes, dark brown hair and an alluring scent that drew me to him. I looked into his eyes and my breath caught in my throat, I felt lightning charge through my body making me feel slightly weak and I had butterflies in my stomach. What was going on with me?
And who is he?
He looked at me with interest, slowly looking over my body, he must’ve liked what he saw as a smirk crossed his lips as he was taking in all my curves. Sara cleared her throat loudly, breaking the invisible tension between us. I looked at her quickly and blushed.
“That’s Graeson or Grae for short,” she pointed to the man that I’d been checking out who I felt a pull to even when I wasn’t looking at him.
“And this is Karen,” she said pointing to another woman in the room that I hadn’t even noticed. She had dark brown hair and gray eyes just like Grae.
They must be related, I thought.
“The others are out patrolling the area or doing god knows what!” Sara said rolling her eyes.
“It's nice to meet you,” I said to the room quietly. I wasn’t used to being around other people much less being in their home. I felt out of place here, yet the aura felt welcoming.
Karen approached me and roughly grabbed Ersa out of my arms, I stared at her dumbfounded, completely surprised and taken aback by the sudden forcefulness.
They were making me feel welcome, why was she treating me like this.
She turned her back on me, giving me the cold shoulder and walked away with my child.
“Where are you taking her,” I pleaded after her as she left the room.
“She needs a nap!” she snapped back at me and disappeared with Ersa. I stared at where she had just left, my body still. I wasn’t sure what to do, do I go after her and take my child back?
Sara noticed my confusion and jumped in.
“Never mind her, she always acts like she has a chip on her shoulder. She does mean well! Her and Ersa bonded a lot while you were asleep, she’s been taking very good care of her this entire time.” Sara said cheerfully while placing a hand on my shoulder.
Her eyes grew wide as her hand made contacted with my body, it almost appeared as if a shock of lightning charges through her body. She withdrew her hand quickly and whispered under her breath.
“Wow,” She said absentmindedly as she walked out of the living room, leaving me alone with Grae who had been sitting on the couch this entire time with his arms crossed against his chest.
His eyes never left me, he had been studying me this entire time, his face blanked not giving any clues as to what he was thinking. His body language was stiff, almost like he was trying to hold something back. I raised a questioning eyebrow at him, curiosity overcoming me. The intense feeling that I needed to be near him never left and it seemed to grow stronger now that I had focused my attention on him.
“Hi, I'm-" I started only for him to interrupt me.
“I know. Winny.” He said shortly.
He seemed to look over my body once more and climbed off the couch. He was tall, a bit taller than me, but then again that’s not surprising as malnutrition in the past stunted my growth so I was only 5 feet tall.
“So, who are you?” he asked.
“We haven’t been able to track down any information on you, it’s almost as if you’ve never existed before which is unlikely as Wolves carry a detailed record of everyone that was ever born and who lives in the North.” He said, studying my charcoal-colored eyes.
“I-I’m Winnifryd…” I trailed off and pulled my gaze away from eerily familiar gray eyes, they kept pulling me in. Who was he and why was I feeling this way about him? I wasn’t even sure what I was feeling but I was determined to keep it to myself.
I couldn’t finish the rest as I had no idea what my last name was, he reached his hand out and gently touched my skin. His touch sent electricity down my spine and it made my skin feel hot to the touch.
What is this?
He seemed to feel it too as he quickly pulled his hand away and turned his face away from me. I couldn’t help it, I needed to know what this pull is, I needed to know why I was so drawn to him. I gulped as I thought of the next thing, I needed to know why it felt like my body wanted him so much. I grabbed for his hand, the electricity immediately charging through my body as our hands connected. I guided his hand back to my cheek and pressed my cheek into his palm and closed my eyes and reveled in this new sensation.
