ANN
I definitely wasn't going to drive to the airport, so I waited for the taxi I had booked. The driver still had about twenty minutes to arrive. He had explained to me that he was getting some gas so he would arrive a few minutes later than the actual fifteen minutes.
I rolled my one huge box to the door of my penthouse and placed my bag on it. I took out my phone and switched it on, so I could call my sister. Chris hadn't stopped calling me since I caught him in that house with Bethany, so I had gotten fed up and switched off my phone. After all, I wasn't expecting a call from any other person.
The series of messages that started to drop immediately the phone finished booting, was scary. It chimed continuously like it wasn't going to end, so I got impatient and dropped it in my hand.
Why were there so many messages coming in anyway? I know over ninety percent of it was coming from that green app.
As the messages entered, I busied myself with making the last rounds through my house. I made sure all the doors and windows were locked. Checked the bathroom and kitchen to see if the taps were locked and if the gas was turned off. Yeah. I was really careful with things like that. I didn't turn off the lights though.
I came back just in time to hear my phone ring. It was my sister. "Jane!" We had this habit of saying each other's names out loud on the phone.
"Ann!" We both giggled at our silliness. "I hope to the heavens, that you are at the airport already, because if you aren't, I will have to fly back to get you myself." She warned, mockingly.
I huffed. "You can't even ask how I am doing or feeling, you just have to go straight to the point. You selfish brat!" I scolded, feigning seriousness.
"Oh please. I can be a brat all I want. After all, I am the bride here. When it is your turn, I know you Ann, you will do way worse than I'm doing." She exhaled, for she had been speaking like she was on fast-forward. "You better get your ass down here quickly. And immediately you touch down, please call me. We have a lot to catch up on, since it's all your fault. I haven't seen you in ages." She said.
"My fault...like you didn't have legs. Don't worry sis, I'm just waiting for the taxi driver to come pick me up." I assured her.
"Good, so we can also shop and get dressed together for the party tonight." She sounded excited.
What party was she talking about?
"What party?" I asked.
She made a frustrated sound. "Don't tell me you did not read the invite I sent you."
Actually, I hadn't read everything on it. It had the page for the main invite and had a long list of activities on another paper at the back. I had figured I would just read it when I got there. Besides, I hadn't expected any to start immediately we arrived. Jane!
"Well..I just glanced through it." I told her the truth.
"What am I going to do with you, Ann?" She sighed. "Well, just be on your way already, and tell Chris he shouldn't come off of that plane, if he doesn't get me enough goodies." I swallowed. I hadn't told her about our breakup, and it wasn't something I wanted to tell her on the phone either. Even the thought of telling her during the time she was supposed to be happy didn't sit well with me, but I couldn't explain Chris's absence.
"I'll call you when I arrive Sis." I said, and hung up, after a series of goodbyes and 'I love you(s)'.
I switched off the phone and tossed it back in my bag. My ipad which I had placed on the table vibrated, so I checked it. The driver had arrived. I placed it in my bag and gathered my things, before heading out of my house. I locked the door and headed for the elevator. As I passed, I was sure I heard a little bit of shuffling from the door opposite mine, but it stopped, so I dismissed it and got into the elevator. I had a flight to catch very soon.
COLTON
If I had the power, I would have booked a later flight, but for reasons best known to Caleb, he had booked me four hours earlier than I would have liked. He knew that a-hole knew I liked to work and would never leave early, so he had taken it into his own hands and booked the flight. When I had tried to reject her, he had brought Jane into the mix. Jerk. He knew I couldn't refuse Jane for anything. And so, I had agreed, and now I regretted it.
What would I be doing in the spare four hours and many more, before the activities for the wedding started?
I sighed and grabbed my laptop and tossed it into a suitcase, adding my tablet and some files. There wasn't much to keep me busy over there, apart from those activities and seeing my best friend.
I picked up my phone to call Caleb to tell him I was about to leave when it rang. Jane?
"Hi princess." It was the nickname I gave her when she bossed Caleb around and made him do all her bidding.
"Baby!" I rolled my eyes. She had given me that nickname after my ex-girlfriend had kept on calling me 'baby' in every f*****g sentence. It had become annoying.
"You wouldn't stop, would you?"
"Nope." I could see her shaking her head from side to side. "I hope you are on your way already?"
"I'm about to leave now." I answered, placing my phone between my ear and my shoulder. I started to zip my bags. "My driver will soon be here anyway."
"Same thing my sister said when I spoke to her. Y'all New Yorkers are always late."
"Your Sister?" I didn't know she had a sister. Let alone one in New York. Nice.
"Yeah, you'll meet her over here." She said. "There is something I need you to get for me." She said, and I listened. It was a surprise for Caleb and I was going to be a little bit late. My hands were at the door, about to open it when she started talking, so I released the door handle and listened carefully. "I have already booked another flight for you, and your ticket will be handed over to you when you get to the airport. I'm so sorry to pin this on you so late, Caleb has been suspicious and has kept on hanging around just to know what I'm up to."
I chuckled at the last part of her statement. "It's not a problem, Jane. Anything for you." I looked at my wristwatch. "I need to get going now if you want me to get there early." I told her.
"Okay. Thanks so much." She said.
"You don't have to thank me. See you later, Jane."
"Bye, Colton." She blew me some kisses before hanging up.
There was a knock on my door. I opened it to reveal my driver. He must have waited for me downstairs before coming up to meet me. "Hello, Sir," he said and took the box and suitcase from me.
"Damien." I nodded.
He left with the bags and I did my final rounds. The penthouse was big and I wasn't using all the rooms yet, but I still went round and made sure everything was locked and switched off to avoid any kind of issue while I was away. It was a habit of mine that came naturally.
When I made sure I had checked everything, I left the penthouse, locked the door behind me and headed for the elevator. As I did, my eyes went to the door opposite mine. I hadn't seen her ever since that last time I saw her back. It was like I had imagined the whole thing in my head.
I sighed and punched the button on the elevator. It opened and I got in.
As I got into my car, a taxi pulled out of the parking lot, and I caught sight of chestnut brown hair in the backseat of the car. The owner's head was down, so I couldn't see who it was, before the car drove away.
Damn.
I needed to get that woman away from my head and my mind. It wasn't doing me any good. It's not like we were destined to meet or anything.
Not that I believed in destiny.
It took me exactly two hours to prepare what Jane had asked of me. I went back to my office, and then to the location, before heading to the airport. I was already feeling exhausted, but I was happy I had been able to achieve what I had gone for. It was late, but affluence had come into play.
A man came to give me my flight ticket. He was dressed like a manager or something, but I didn't really care. All I needed was a good night's rest. Long, long hours of sleep so I could get myself.
"Excuse me Sir, would you like something to eat or drink?" A female voice said to me. I opened my eyes to see a pretty air hostess standing before me.
I shook my head. "No, thank you." I declined politely. What I needed was sleep. A very nice and long sleep. Which was going to be impossible if she continued to stand there, watching me like a damn hawk, ready to pounce on me at anytime.
She didn't move away. "Are you sure? If there is anything, anything you need..." She let her voice trail off. Her emphasis on 'anything' pretty much made her suggestion obvious.
"I do not need anything. I just need to sleep. Now if you could kindly switch off the lights on your way out, I would be really grateful." I said and proceeded to close my eyes till she finally left. She was a drama queen, because on her way out, she made sure to make all the noise she could, so she would get annoyed. I could report her, but I really didn't give a damn. I reclined my seat and adjusted myself before closing my eyes and letting sleep take me.
