Chapter 1

It had been two weeks since Amelia and William’s wedding. Life in Obsidian had gone back to normal for almost everyone except Logan. He was still disappointed and confused by the event that took place. It made him understand why, years before, Amelia had reacted the way she had toward Kyle and Richard when they had made degrading comments about their family. Whenever he thought about what Reagan had said to him, he became angry. The swirl of emotions that had settled in was causing his aura to be unstable and affecting everyone around him. Logan was still lying in bed, brooding about what had happened. He was questioning many things and was doubting himself. It made him wonder if he would ever find another mate or be forced to take a chosen one. What if that mate rejected him as well? That thought made Logan’s chest tighten. He sat up and ran his hands through his hair. He looked around his bedroom and shook his head. He was in his childhood bedroom in his parents’ home. Logan loved that room and being close to his family, but maybe that was part of the problem. Perhaps he should move out and into one of the available homes in Obsidian. Logan’s thoughts were interrupted by the soft thud of the dog door mounted in the door. He chuckled as a neon green fey dragon bounced toward him. It had been the only one of the first clutch of eggs Blueberry and Violet had hatched that did not bond with someone and go to a new home. “Hey, Vern,” Logan grinned as the little dragon hopped onto the bed beside him. “Are you ready to go downstairs and help Lucy with breakfast?” The little dragon spun in a circle before he fell off the bed. Vern flew up, hovered in front of Logan’s face, and squawked loudly. Logan laughed, “OK. I will take that as a yes. Let me get dressed, and we will go have breakfast.” - Olivia was beside herself as she tried to find a way to help her son. She remembered how it had felt when Nick rejected her without the mate bond. Olivia could not fathom how much her son was hurting to be rejected by his mate. She sighed and snuggled into Tyson’s side as they continued to lay in bed before starting their day. “You cannot fix this problem for our son, my little wolf,” Tyson told her as he pulled her close and kissed her head. “Unfortunately, neither of us can fix this for Logan. The only thing that will help is time and the off chance he might find his second chance mate or even take a chosen mate in the future.” Olivia sighed, “I know. That is what bothers me so much. When my kids are hurting, I comfort them and help them feel better. I can’t do that this time. Half the time, I can barely be in the room with him because he has difficulty controlling his aura. I love you with all my heart, but right now, I wish you were not a dragon lord. You passed that to our son. I’m worried he might lose control and accidentally hurt someone if his aura flares at the wrong time.” “I’m worried about that, too. That is why I have Kevin or Julian with him whenever I can. I have him in my office with me when we are at Emery Tech. If I am needed elsewhere and cannot be with him, I have him in the room with Nick or send Kevin or Julian to be with him in his office.” “Lia is trying to be with him as much as she can be, but between the girls and the art center, it is difficult for her to spend as much time as she wants to. It is upsetting her because she feels like she is letting her little brother down. Right now, the only child who is not making me worry is sweet little Everly.” Tyson chuckled, “You keep calling our children little. They are all adults and significantly larger than you are. And while Logan might be a year younger than Lia, he is far from her little brother. If you have not noticed, he is just as imposing as I am, although I might have him by about a quarter of an inch when it comes to height.” I realize that,” Olivia giggled. “I have had to look up to them for years, but they will always be my babies. Even Lia, who has her own babies, will always be my baby.” “Speaking of Lia and her babies, isn’t it nearly time for them to join us for the breakfast we are about to be late for?” Tyson asked as he glanced at the clock on his nightstand. “What?! Is it that late?” Olvia asked as she bolted out of bed. “Why didn’t you say something?” “Because, my love, we both needed to spend time with each other to calm ourselves before we try to fix all our children's problems,” Tyson grinned. “That and I was thinking about telling Lucy to save some breakfast for us so we could have time together. I can’t neglect you and your needs, and I feel like I have been.” “You have never neglected me, my love. As I recall, you more than satisfied my needs and Raine’s,” Olivia grinned as she entered the walk-in closet. Tyson chuckled as he got out of bed and thought about what they had done the night before. He had made love to Olivia the night before. After that, Olivia’s wolf, Raine, took over and insisted on her time with Tyson. Raine enjoyed rough and carnal things, which always made Tyson worry about hurting Olivia. However, it had never happened, and he had faith that Olivia’s wolf would never allow her to be injured while they were together. Tyson walked into the closet to see Olivia standing on her tiptoes, stretching as far as she could to reach one of his t-shirts on the shelf. Tyson smiled but did not laugh as he reached over her head and took the shirt off the shelf for her. He kissed her tenderly as Olivia took it from his hands. He smiled, “Would you like to wear the shirt I wore to the office yesterday? My scent would be strong on it, and it might help you and Raine stay calm.” “Yes, please,” Olivia sighed. Tyson kissed her before taking a dress shirt from a hook on the wall. He turned back to see Olivia smiling as he gave it to her. “You knew I would need it and put it up for me,” Olivia said. “I did. I knew you would need it. I have seen you wearing my shirts since Logan was rejected. I can’t wear your clothing, but I have been sneaking your hair bands and scrunchies into my pocket to take to work. I might be the reigning dragon lord of the clan, but Logan’s aura due to his emotions has been a bit much even for me,” Tyson said as he pulled her in to embrace her. “Why didn’t you say something?” Olivia jokingly scolded him. “Starting today, I will stick one of your handkerchiefs in my bra. Then, I will put it in a plastic bag when we go to bed. That way, it is slightly more subtle when you use my scent to help calm you. No one would give a second thought to you wiping your nose in a meeting, but they might question things if you start sniffing my scrunchie.” “That is very true, and yet another thing that proves you are the brains and beauty in this relationship. Now hurry and get dressed, my little wolf. Lucy is in my head scolding me for letting you starve this morning,” Tyson chuckled. “Then you had better hurry up,” Olivia laughed as she put on the shirt he had given her. “The last thing we want is for Lucy to be mad at any of us.” Tyson chuckled as he quickly dressed. “Lucy has been cooking for this family for as long as I can remember. She has never once been angry with you. Me, on the other hand, she still keeps a wooden spoon handy to whack me when I need it.” “I can’t argue with that,” Olivia giggled. “Come, my love. Let’s go downstairs, have breakfast, and try to pull our son out of his own thoughts for a while. Of all the traits he got from you, I wish he had avoided your broodiness.” “I wish the same,” Tyson sighed as he draped his arm around Olivia’s shoulders. “Come, my little wolf. Logan and Everly are helping Lucy put breakfast on the table as we speak.”
