Chapter 11

Tyson and Olivia were in their dining room eating breakfast. Before dawn, they were called and told that Dr. Robert Stone would arrive in Obsidian that afternoon. Kevin was arranging everything, including Robert’s housing, while he was there. Everyone in Obsidian was doing what they could to help find a way to assist the family. The pair were picking at their meal when Everly, Darla, Logan, and Damian joined them. They were followed by the fey dragons living in their home. Violet, who was Everly’s purple dragon, and Vern, who was neon green, and from the clutch of eggs that had been incubated under Everly’s bed by Violet and Blueberry. Tagging along behind were the fey dragons who lived with Amelia and William. Those included Blueberry, the blue and green one who bonded to Amelia before her birth. The red one was named Scarlet, who had claimed William. The only one missing was Drax. He was a silver one, bonded to Isla. He had stayed with her in the room she always used when she stayed with her grandparents and would join them at the table when Isla ate. Drax had initially been called Silver, but when Sophia, Amelia’s little cousin, named her fey dragon Silver, Drax was renamed. The four fey dragons darted under the table and climbed onto it one by one to sit in their designated spot. They waited patiently and politely while the kids made dishes for them to keep them occupied. However, the diminutive dragons wasted no time when the plates were placed before them. They dove in, gulping down their breakfast as if they were starving. “Did you check on Isla?” Olivia asked as her children and their friends filled their plates. Everly replied, “We did. Isla is still sound asleep, with Drax acting as her guard dog. We thought about waking her, but she had a long day yesterday and thought she could use the sleep. Isla is sweet even when she’s tired, but I don’t want to push it. She might use her fairy magic and tell every fey dragon in the clan to swarm me and try to perch on my head all at the same time. Being crushed to death by fey dragons sounds about as much fun as being pecked to death by a chicken.” “Good call,” Tyson said with a grin. “Logan, Will’s brother, Robert, will be here this afternoon. I want you to join me at the airfield to greet him.” “Can we trust him?” Damian asked. Everyone in the family had been made aware of Amelia's first and only meeting with her brother-in-law. It seemed that Robert instantly disliked Amelia, and after what Robert had said, the feeling was mutual. Tyson hoped Robert had told the truth about it being a knee-jerk reaction to an alpha after dealing with a difficult one. “He was adamant that he did not mean what he said to Lia. Robert had been dealing with an arrogant alpha werewolf who could test anyone’s patience to the point that he snapped when he met Lia and felt her alpha aura. His story has been consistent, and Will and Ellie insist he wants to apologize and is sincere,” Tyson explained. “So… no making him spontaneously combust using fairy magic, witch magic, or dragon breath?” Damian smirked. Tyson dropped his head, pinching the bridge of his nose as he sighed. Olivia snorted as she rubbed Tyson’s arm. Olivia replied, “No. No one can make Robert spontaneously combust, as you put it. No one is to bother him unless he intentionally does something to Amelia or the girls. The rest of us can handle ourselves, but right now, Amelia and the girls need our protection from everything we can protect them from.” “Agreed. This means you four, mainly Logan and Damian, must behave as much as possible. We understand that things unexpectedly happen around here, but try to keep it to a minimum,” Tyson told them. “We second that,” Emma said as she led the way out of the kitchen with Nick on her heels. Nicked sat beside his son and asked, “When will Robert arrive? We would like to be there to greet him as well.” “Sometime this afternoon is all we know,” Tyson said. “There have been some issues with the weather.” “It looks like half the family will be there for this arrival,” Olivia said as she sipped her coffee. “Jake, Amber, and Eric will be there since Willa is part of the pack.” “That’s OK, my love. It will do Robert some good to see that we stand together in Obsidian. That includes the dragons, werewolves, witches, vampires, fairies, humans, and anyone else who wants to join us,” Tyson said as he kissed Olivia on the head. Isla entered the dining room, still in her pajamas, as she rubbed her eyes and yawned. Drax was padding along with her as if escorting her into the room. Olivia scooped Isla onto her lap and hugged her as she snuggled into her grandmother’s arms. “How did you sleep?” Olivia asked Isla as her fey dragon Drax scaled the chair leg and climbed into the girl’s lap. “OK. Is Willa coming home today?” Isla asked. “I don’t know, baby. We have a special doctor arriving today to help make her better. And you know what?” Olivia asked, trying to sound excited. Isla’s eyes grew wide as she asked, “What?” “This doctor is your uncle. He is your daddy’s brother. That means he will work extra hard to make Willa better,” Olivia told her. “Good. Willa scared me. I want her better,” Isla sniffed, prompting Drax to give a trill and nudge at her chin to distract her. Tyson brushed Isla’s hair away from her face and smiled at her. “What would you like for breakfast? If it isn’t on the table, I’m sure Lucy would happily make it for you.” “Yes, I would,” Lucy said as she entered the dining room. She was grinning as she pulled a cupcake from behind her back and sat it on a plate between Tyson and Olivia. “I’m sure your grandma and grandpa will know what to do with that. But you need to eat more than cupcakes. What would you like?” “Scrambled eggs and sausage,” Isla grinned as Tyson removed the wrapper on her cupcake. “Well… that makes things easy,” Lucy chuckled as she made Isla a plate. “I won’t have to cook anything new.” After she gave Isla the plate and saw she was eating, Lucy turned to Tyson. She had heard about the new guest in Obsidian, and if he could help Willa, she wanted to do everything she could to make him happy. “Tyson, Olivia, what would you like me to do for the guest flying in? Does he have any dietary needs or preferences I need to be aware of?” “I wish I knew Lucy,” Tyson sighed as he watched Olivia help their granddaughter eat. “We are going to the hospital after breakfast to check on everyone. Lia is beside herself. For some reason, she thinks what Willa did to Everly and Darla in the forest was her fault. Like she should have known it would happen and prevented it.” “Of course she does,” Darla said as she rolled her eyes. “Lia had absolutely nothing to do with it.” Emma said, “Lia would never let anything happen to her sisters. We all know that. My mom has a theory about all this. She thinks Willa’s fairy magic might have something to do with it. It hasn’t come forward yet, and it could be causing her vampire and wolf genes to go crazy.” Olivia nodded, “We have wondered if that might be part of it. I want to talk with Aunt Freya today and see what she says about the idea. She knows more about fairy magic than us and might have some ideas about how to fix things.” Everly giggled, “Let us know if you need backup with Aunt Freya. We all know how she can be.” “Yes, we do,” Olivia laughed. “Today could be an interesting day.”
