Amelia walked down with Alec, the entire house was something she had seen and memorized for years… and here she was, looking at everything with new eyes. Alec walked just a half a step-in front of her and when they got to his dining room, he waved her forward.
She knew which seat was his, so she sat beside it and waited as people came in, the people she had seen for years. Wolves, vampires… and one other human.
They all sat, and Alec sat once the table was filled. “As most of you know… we have a guest.” Amelia felt all eyes on her already, but when Alec announced that she was a guest, something in the air changed.
“A guest who spies on us?” Hank, the werewolf with the worst temper growled out and Amelia shifted her eyes to him. He didn’t look as threatening as when she first saw him in her dreams.
“I did not spy. I didn’t even know you guys were real. I went to sleep and saw everything.” Amelia told them, looking right to Hank and then up at Alec. “Trust me, this is all new and I still don’t believe it.”
“How do you dream about us?” Josie asked and seemed to blush, and she looked at her mate before clearing her throat. “Also… what all do you see?”
“I see everything when the dream was focused on you. When it first started, I was 15. I saw the packs, and I saw the clans and it didn’t really start to focus on someone until I was in college.” Amelia looked around the table, knowing each of their darkest secrets and what they looked like naked. At the last thought her face flamed up and she averted eye contact.
“So, this has gone on for 10 years?” Alec asked and Amelia felt a bit insulted and then looked at the others.
“8. I am only 23.” He looked at the others, and then at her and narrowed his eyes. “I have seen your weddings, and battles, and probably know all your secrets. Even ones you don’t want people to know, ones that your mates might not know about you because you don’t want to hurt their feelings.” I didn’t have to look at Robert to know that he was the one that took the most offense to that. “I know exactly how some of you were sneaking around, I know what you guys want for the future… I know it all and when I was dreaming all of it… that’s all you were to me. Imaginary people that were so interesting my roommate made me write a book about it. And sometimes, after I started to write it down, I could not sleep eat or do anything until I wrote it.”
“So, you have a compelling need to write this stuff down?” Megan asked and Amelia’s eyes turned to her.
“I do now. I can’t remember what it felt like not to write it.” Alec stood up slowly and she heard him mutter something but none of the others were that interested in what he said.
“So, what are we going to do?” Robert asked and Amelia gulped as she waited for an answer.
“Do you mean to do us harm? Share that we are indeed real?” Alec asked her and he already knew the answer, she was scared out of her mind, but she was a part of them.
“Yeah, I can totally see myself going up to my publisher and telling her that not only are there real Vampires and Werewolves, but all my characters are real… I would be tossed in a looney bin faster than a snap of your fingers.” Amelia shook her head and looked at all of them. “Even if I thought someone would believe me, I wouldn’t tell them anything.”
“But you have written so many books. Those things happened.” Sasha said and looked at the others. “Everything that you wrote in our book happened.”
“Ours too.” Thatcher called out and I looked to him. “Even down to the code to open our bunker.” He looked right to Gabe and then to Alec.
“Oh my… I can actually say this…” Amelia smiled slightly and looked to Thatch. “Your proposal was the best. I cried in my dream, and then cried after I wrote it.”
“It was.” Gabe looked at his mate and his sigh made Amelia blush because she was reminded what happened as soon as Gabe said yes.
“You saw all of our proposals?” Silas asked, clearing his throat loud and Amelia nodded slowly, her face could not get any redder could it? She remembered just how passionate Silas had been when he was in bed with his mate.
“Do you still dream about what we do?” Jillian asked, her own blush showing as she looked to her mate Alistair.
“No. Once your issues and mating were done it was like my mind went on to the next couple. I only see you as you interfere with the others in the book.” Amelia yawned hard, and blinked back tears, she was ready to answer any question as best as she can, but she was getting tired, even the hour or so she had been out when she fainted didn’t help her.
“Enough.” Alec called out making the next question die on Erik’s lips. “She needs sleep.” Alec nodded to them and once by one Amelia watched them get up and walk out. She knew they all lived here, and to make things more awkward, she knew that there wasn’t an extra room for her to have… so where did that leave her? “Come Amelia.”
Alec led her back to his bedroom and when he stayed in the room past a few minutes she gulped. “I won’t tell anyone.” She told him and he hummed like it was amusing.
“I know you won’t. But… are you comfortable sharing this bed?” He asked as he made his way closer to her.
“You usually don’t sleep until sunrise.” She couldn’t stop herself from blurting it out, and when she did, she looked away from him.
“Very true, but as I go to sleep, I am sure you will not be waking up yet… do you mind if I sleep beside you, or shall I go to another room?”
“There aren’t any other rooms.”
“There is the bunker.” He reminded her and her breath hitched.
“I don’t mind. I do move a lot in my sleep.” She told him and he nodded slowly.
“Sleep well. If you require anything I will be in my study.” He told her and she nodded slowly, and he turned to leave. Wishing she would ask him for anything, even to stay and talk with her.
Yawning hard again, her eyes making a tear escape her eye before she turned back into the bed. She pushed the covers back and cuddled into the pillow she had seen Alec look at just last night. Actually, it had been about 20 minutes before sunrise. She curled in, her legs against the sheets felt nice, and her entire body stayed cool and the right temperature. She fell asleep easily and quickly, wondering if she would simply dream about whatever Alec was going in the next room.
Alec listened intently as he filled out paperwork and wrote out letters excepting a couple new families under his command before he heard her gasp. He sped to the room she was breathing heavy and sweaty. She had been asleep for a little over 4 hours now.
“What? What’s wrong?” Alec asked her, getting her eyes to focus and he saw her trying to calm down. “Amelia?”
“The council… they sent you that letter.” She mumbled and he seemed to be shocked that she knew, but as soon as she saw him open it in her dream, she had touched it to follow along correctly and she was transported to their meeting.
“What about the letter?”
“They don’t care what you are doing… if you plan on going through with what they ask, they’re going to try and pick off the couples one by one. Killing them to make a show of what happens when you don’t follow the laws.” She took a deep breath and she choked on a sob. “Then they are coming for you.”
“When?” He asked, cupping her face as she started to cover her face and she sobbed and shook her head.
“There was no time or day… they just said when they got a response.” She shook her head and started to cry harder and he lifted her from the bed, taking her weight easily before he sat back on the bed. He hadn’t responded to the letter yet, and hopefully that gave him enough time to warn everyone, to make sure they are safe and sound. Protected.
She cried for so hard and for so long she fell back asleep against him. He turned his body, cradling her and smoothing over her hair until he could pull away fully and go get something to change into. If she was going to have nightmares, he was going to lay in bed beside her to help her when she woke up.
Alec laid under the covers on his side, he saw her moving as if she was confused about something, little tilts of her head, her hands clenched and unclenched the sheets in front of her and he waited for her to calm down but when his eyes started to slam shut, he reached out, his hands snagging her hip and turning her to curl into him. Inhaling her scent deeply, his body calmed immediately, and he fell asleep hours before dawn.
