Chapter Six

1414 Words
Alpha Clark's POV I was in my office trying to work, but it was difficult. Today Celeste turns eighteen. I know it's Christmas too, but I have things I still need to do. Besides, the presents were opened at the crack of dawn. The celebration will be later this evening. I couldn't concentrate so I went downstairs to find something to eat. I heard someone call me. "Alpha." Looking toward the dining room, I was surprised to see Isaac. "Isaac. Goddess, it's good to see you." I pulled him into a hug. Isobel has helped me see that I have been an a** to him. I would use being stubborn as an excuse, but I knew I was using him to do some things I myself didn't want to. "I need to speak with you and Luna now. It's urgent. I'll meet you in your office." It had something to do with Celeste. He was panicked and serious. I could feel it radiating from him. Isaac doesn't normally panic. Before I could speak, he was gone. I tried mind-linking Isobel, but I didn't know where she was or what she was doing. I know she heard me, but didn't answer. I had to search for her. I went to our room to find her soaking in the bath. "Seriously, Angel? I know you heard me." "Can I enjoy my quiet time? It's going to be chaos later." She did look peaceful and sexy as hell, but I pulled my thoughts back to the matter at hand. "Isaac is here. He wants to speak with both of us. He seemed scared, panicked even. Come, I'll give you extra time later." "Fine. This had better be good." "I think it's about Celeste." Not one word, she was out of the tub and dressed faster than I have ever experienced. I caught Isaac pacing in my office. I wondered how he got in. Sh*t I must've left the door open again. Oops. "Isaac?" Isobel called to him. "Luna." Isobel walked over to him and enveloped him in one of her hugs. I took my seat. Isaac pulled away and rushed to the door, locking it. "Isaac, what's wrong? What happened?" This wasn't like him, he is always cool, calm, and collected no matter what the situation. "I found my mate." Isobel and I congratulated him, but he didn't look happy. That was clear. "Isaac, that's a good thing." Isobel said. She had always wondered when the Moon Goddess would bless him with his mate. He continued his pacing from earlier. Looking from Isobel to me multiple times, I was starting to think it was bad news about his mate. I thought it had to do with Celeste at first. He would've told me that in private, since Isobel doesn't know anything. It was creepy when he was just staring at us, not speaking. "Both of you may not like the idea of who the Moon Goddess chose to mate me with. Luna, I will have a lot of explaining to do to you after." I was as confused as Isobel now looked. "Isaac, before you start. I want to give you my sincerest apology for acting like an a**hole to you. It's taken me a long time to admit the things I did to you were wrong. When you moved out of the pack house, I felt that loss. Then you barely started coming back here. You only spoke to Isobel. That hurt even more. I hope you will accept my apology." I had to take this chance. He has been angry with me for far too long. I had no reason to be upset with him, I was accommodating and refused to concede. Plain and simple, I was an a**hole. "I accept your apology. Now I am issuing one, though I have no control over it. I am willing to reject my mate for you." Why would we want him to reject his mate? As I opened my mouth, he spoke a sentence that stopped me in my tracks. "Celeste, your daughter is my mate." My mouth slammed shut in shock. I had no feelings about the matter either way. Numbness is all I felt. "H-How? Y-y-you found her?" Sh*t. This should've been private. Isobel doesn't need to hear this. Maybe he wouldn't say anything more. "Not exactly, Luna. You may want to sit down for what I'm going to tell you." Bringing a chair to my side, he motioned for Isobel to sit. This is not going to bode well for me. "Isaac." I glowered at him. Now was not the time and today was not the day. He didn't listen. "It's time. You know that and so do I. Luna, I hope you do not hate me. I'm the one that hid Celeste. I have been watching over her. Since her fourteenth birthday, I have been in her life. I started training her after her father called me. She wanted to learn self-defense. She was getting bullied." Well, that was information that I didn't know. "Does she know about us?" A rational question. How the hell is she rational and not flipping out on Isaac for not saying something sooner? "No. She does not know I'm her mate either. I left around eleven last night, wondering how she would feel after I told her who I was and who you were. Last month, her adoptive parents were killed. I have been watching over her with certain members of my team. No wolves, just in case one of them realized who she was. She was the important assignment I told you about. I went back to her home around five this morning and her enticing scent filled my nostrils. Bandit screamed mate in my head, it took me a second to comprehend that it was Celeste. I bolted back out the door, drove around more and decided here was the place I needed to be." The one thing I could never call Isaac was stupid, but right now that's what he was. How could he run from his mate? I get the awkwardness of the pairing, but he should feel fortunate she isn't some crazy she-wolf. I thought Isobel would be more vocal about Isaac finding his mate. Or hearing our daughter has hers. Nothing. Speechless. This was a sight to behold. I jumped when she flew from her seat over to Isaac. I thought he was done for now. Instead, she encircled her arms around his waist and held on tight. Isaac looked at me. For what, help? He wasn't getting it from me. I just shrugged. I had no clue what she was thinking and I was too afraid to ask. "Don't reject her, Isaac. I couldn't ask for a better wolf to be her mate." I heard her say to him. He looked down at her, I didn't have to see her face to know she was silently shedding tears when she said that. Again he looked at me. "I agree with my Angel. As a father, I wouldn't want anyone touching her. I know you are a great wolf and protector. I know you will love her with your whole heart. I also know you will lay down your life for her. You have given your life to protect her as it is." I couldn't think of anyone I would trust more with Celeste. The Moon Goddess knew what she was doing. As I watched him sit and place his head in his hands, I couldn't imagine what he was feeling. He's waited so long for this moment. I'm sure he's happy on some level. He looked scared and I don't think it was just a fear of telling Isobel and I. It seemed like he was having an internal struggle. Not another word from him was spoken. He just walked out of my office and left. I don't mean he left the pack house, I mean he left our territory. Hopefully, he was running to his mate, where he belonged. A few hours later, he called. Celeste wanted to meet Isobel and me. He didn't sound like himself at all, something was wrong. He insisted the woods would be best. I agreed. Ten o'clock, the kids would be settled and Isobel and I could run there. Isobel was intoxicated with excitement. I couldn't blame her, so was I. I just hid it better, at least that's what I told myself.
