CHAPTER 6 ELLERY Coop and I walk back out to the rooftop, and by now, it’s the seventh-inning stretch. Bryce is talking on the phone, and as soon as we get to the seats, she stands. “I gotta go.” “What? It’s not over and I thought we were going to go to dinner tonight?” Bryce gives me the look she always does when work calls, but I can’t say I don’t understand. Being a doctor, I’m on call a lot. “I’m sorry. I guess some new guy just got called up to play with the Tundras and they want me to interview him for a piece tomorrow.” “They can do that?” Coop asks. I laugh because out of the three of us, he’s the one who’s been involved in the most interviews for sports magazines. Doesn’t he realize how important it is for the first reporter to get the story before others? But that’s Coop.
