Mia shook her head and paused mid lift

Mate mate mate

What was that smell? She could smell it faintly. A mix of mint, cologne and cedar. But where was it coming from?

Mia looked at the other dozen or so humans in the gym. They were all lifting hard, sweating. She caught Mike’s eye and he gave her a wink

“Aria? Wtf?” Mia asked.

“I…I’m not sure” her normally confident wolf stammered. “Im sure I smelled something but it’s gone”

Mia whipped her head around to look at Emily and Caleb. They didn’t notice anything. They were completing their workouts with ease, barely working up a sweat. Mia sighed as a bead of sweat trickled trickled down from her forehead to her cheek.

Coach Dan was smiling. He thought that he had finally broken one of the trio.

After the workout, Mia joined Emily and Caleb for stretching. She considered telling them about the scent and what Aria had said, but quickly changed her mind. Her best friends knew she didn’t want to be mated. Or didn’t want to find her mate. She was happy with ruling independently. With her Beta and her Gamma and her own Alpha/Luna abilities - she knew she would be unstoppable. She didn’t need the complexities of a male partner.

Mike the human God walked over tot he trio. Mia blushed slightly as he came over to join the stretching and talking about the workout and protein shakes and other gym related stuff. His deep blue eyes stayed on Mia mostly

“Your cheeks are pretty flushed today, Mia” Caleb noted with a laugh. He loved teasing her. Mia shot him a look but that just causes him to howl. He thought he was really funny. Mia knew she was flushed because of Mike’s hotness and close proximity to her - but mostly because of the scent that had confused her wolf and her. Sitting close to Mike she didn’t smell anything aside from his cologne - but that was t the smell she had smelt before. She was not even disappointed.

The group left the gym together and Mike headed to his car waving to the group.

“Oh Hey Mike!” Emily called over, jogging back towards him. “We are going to the new club Mated tonight” she told him while fixing her hair and looking him up and down. Mike smiled and looked over to Mia who was slinking down in the passenger seat of the jeep. She was definitely red now. “Bring some friends” Emily added with a wink before hopping into the drivers side of the jeep

“Goddess Emily! Wtf was that???” Mia asked as Mike drove away.

“Well Mia, one of us had to make the move for you” Emily laughed as she started the jeep. Caleb could barely contain himself and was howling in the back seat.

“Now let’s head to the mall. Get something hot to wear tonight” Emily said as she drove. Mia laughed. Caleb groaned loudly. Shopping with these 2 was one of his least favourite things.

After a quick trip to the mall, the young women had secured some outfits for the night. Caleb had a headache. 2 hours with them at the mall was enough for him. They’d even convinced him to buy some new jeans and a nice clean t shirt for tonight.

The trio pulled up to kingdom and raced to the training field with a minute to spare. They discarded their bags to the side and joined the others. The other warriors were already there. King Jake glanced at his watch then shot Mia a look that she know really said “you’re lucky!” Alex was beside the king smirking. Mia smiled at them sweetly and they both relented just a little before turning to the group of young warriors.

“Today we will be sparring in groups of 3” the king began. “2 on 1. The rogues never attack 1 on1 or fairly and this is a chance for you to learn your best offensive and defensive skills while battling more than one. Everyone will take turns, being part of the team or as the individual”. Everyone started buzzing to create their groups of 3.

Mia turned to Caleb and Emily “Guess we already have our 3 here” she said with a smug shrug.

“Not so fast. Time to split up this little threesome” , Alex’s voice appeared from behind them.

“Caleb you’re with Matt and Markus” Alex pointed to the very large men in their 20s. “Emily you’ll be with Ginger and Tom”.

“and what about me?” The Princess pouted.

Alex smirked. “You’ll be with me, your dad and your brother”.

“Hey big sis!” Her brother Prince Noah came up from behind her. He was 2 years younger but by far one of the best warriors already. He was a foot taller than her and despite being only 16 - he already had his wolf, a pure black wolf like their father’s - Blaze. It had been a shock to the entire community - especially for Noah. He was handsome like their father - with blonde white hair flipped to the side and bright blue eyes - but they were their mothers features - just in their dads colouring. The girls were wild for Prince Noah and there was no doubt that he would be mated happily quickly.

Mia sighed. She knew that the men her life would claim to “not go easy” on her - but also knew they would totally be going easy on her. She wanted to fight a stranger. To have the chance to use her powers. Because of her mothers humanitarian work, Queen Amanda had been given gifts by the Moon Goddess herself. She had the option of keeping the gifts or sharing them with her children. Queen Amanda kept the gift of healing. She could heal nearly anyone near death. She gave her daughter Mia the gift of the shield. Mia could send out an aura through her shimmering coat while in wolf form - that could create a shield around her. Queen Amanda insisted that this shield could spread to protect others close to her, but Mia had yet to master it and couldn’t quite get her powers to protect those near her, much to her wolf Aria’s dismay. Prince Noah had the power of fire. He could create fire using his eyes which would prove to be a formidable gift against enemies.

They started by sparring in human form. Mia easily dodged her brother and fathers blows. She was quick. And they went at her hard. She was able to duck and avoid any hard blows and was able to trip her brother with a quick foot sweep.

Prince Noah laughed from the ground. Mia knew that laugh. He was pissed. Mia realized he was angry that he had fallen to the ground. Before Alex had time to call for wolf form, Noah was already shaking and shifting to Blaze.

“Noah!” King Jake’s voice boomed, but it was too late. Blaze was in control.

Blaze was a strong powerful wolf. The shiniest deepest black coat, that it was almost purple- and amber eyes. Mia knew she didn’t have a choice and shifted quickly to Aria. The large white wolf with the shimmery pink coat and steely grey eyes wasn’t quite as large as her brothers. But she was quick and agile and also strong.

A crowd started to form around the Royal wolves who were eyeing each other carefully. Each stalking the other. Waiting for one to make the first move. Some of the young she wolves were cheering on Noah. While others were cheering for the Princess.

Blaze growled a low warning growl before lunging at Aria. Aria easily pounced over him and growled back. Blaze was getting angry. His amber eyes narrowed and he lunged again, nipping Aria’s tail, causing Aria to yelp.

She lunged back and nipped his ear. His eyes grew brighter and Aria quickly realized that he was about to throw fire at her. “That little p****!” Aria was angry but knew what she had to do. She quickly focused and stood her grown, concentrating on the pink glow coming from her coat. Willing it outwards. Just as the fire escaped Blaze’s eyes - the crowd gasped as it flew towards Aria who wasn’t moving. Her steel grey eyes focused. The pink shield came to full just in time and the fire bounced off causing some damage to some trees and bushes. The crowd cheered and gasped at once.

“Noah stop” Mia mind linked him. Blaze’s eyes narrowed again but Mia quickly shifted back to her human form and raised her hands. Noah shifted back and gave her a cheeky grin. “Next time” - he told his sister as they quickly dressed with a goofy grin.

Alex raised his hands to address the crowd. “Alright warriors. It’s the weekend. Hit the showers. We still have a lot of work to do. See you tomorrow morning at 8am”.

King Jake turned towards his children with pride and frustration, before cuffing The back of Noah’s head. “Ow!” Noah rubbed the back of his head

“someone needs to learn to control his temper” he said sternly to his goofy smiling son. He turned to Mia “you made me nervous. We need to work on the shield and controlling it quicker”. Mia nodded but was a little put off because she thought she had done well.

The King turned towards his 2 children. “I think we could all benefit from some mindfulness and control” he started “Sunday you’ll be training with the queen of control. Your mother”.

The trio and Alex started walking towards their large mansion. Mia pulled out her phone and saw a text from Emily:

Nice job Princess! Grabbed your bags! Will be there at 6 to get ready with you :)

Mia glanced at her phone. It was already after 4. She needed to shower and eat before going.

“Hey little bro” she turned to Noah putting her phone back in her pocket “wanna race?” She gestured to the home in the distance.

Noah’s face broke out into his dorky smile “oh you’re on big sis!” He laughed and without a moment of hesitation they both charged towards the house, giggling and shoving each other along the way.

King Jake turned to His Beta. “Watch her tonight”. He instructed his best friend whom be trusted with his life and his family.

Alex smiled. “You know it buddy” he gave the King a pat on the arm and they jogged towards the house.

Mia washed her hair in the shower after dinner. Her mother had healed the spot on her back thigh where her brother had nipped her. It was as good as new. Mia let the hot water run over skin and body for a few extra moments. She was tired and not really sure if she wanted to go out tonight. But Emily was so pumped and had bought new leather tights that she couldn’t wait to wear. Mia had opted for a body con, skin tight shimmery pink mini dress that she knew her dad was going to have a fit over. When she saw it she knew it was perfect. It reminded her of Aria’s shimmery pink coat. Emily arrived at 6pm on the button with their shopping bags as promised. The girls got ready together, doing smoky dramatic eyes and nude lips. They both opted to leave their hair down

The shimmery pink mini dress fit Mia like a glove. Spaghetti straps that showed off her perfectly toned arms. The low neckline exposed just enough cleavage. It hugged her every curve, showing her perfectly shaped body and landed mid thigh. She accessorized with large silver hoop earrings. Her long wavy brown hair went down to her waist and pale pink open toed pumps.

Emily’s blonde curly hair sat perfectly at her shoulders. She was wearing a blue top that made her blue eyes pop, with a neck line that plunged to her belly button. Her perfect breasts were taped down and still looked at risk of spilling out. She wore a long gold necklace that nearly reached her belly button. She wore her leather tights and black stilettos.

Caleb popped his head in the room “y’all decent!?” He called in, with his hands over his eyes.

“You tell us” Emily responded.

Caleb removed his hand from his eyes and nearly hit the floor with his jaw.

“We aren’t going to be allowed to go” he murmured sadly. “You both cleaned up too well”.

The girls giggled. He looked good himself. His brown hair was clean and over to the side. His new jeans fit and gave him a nice shaped butt and his large biceps poked out under the sleeves of his new white shirt.

“Any chances we can ditch Alex and just sneak out of here?” Emily asked.

Mia laughed. “And get away with it and live to tell about it? Not likely”.

They trio entered the kitchen.

Queen Amanda looked up from the book she was reading. Her eyes widened but she quickly gained her composure. “You 3 look incredible” she said with a smile before taking a picture of them with her phone.

King Jake walked in and looked at them. His eyes landing on his daughter. “Nope”. He said strongly, shaking his head. “Nope. Not happening.”

Mia knew this was coming and sighed. “Daddy. I’m an adult. I have my wolf. Heck Most girls my age are already mated” Her father winced knowing this was true. “Im going out and that’s just reality. I agreed to let Alex chaperone” she rolled her eyes. “But I’m going. And if he gets in my way, I’m gonna put him on his ass”. This caused the king chuckle. He looked over at his wife, who smiled and nodded warmly at him - encouraging him to do the right thing.

“At least wear a coat” he commented reluctantly. “It still gets cool at night”. It was August, and 30 degrees and she was a wolf. There was no way she was getting cold. But she grabbed her cropped leather jacket to appease her dad.

“Thank you Daddy!” She smiled the smile that melted his heart. “Love you!”

“Aren’t you forgetting someone?” A voice called from behind as the trio tried to sneak out the door.

Alex entered the room wearing a tight black t shirt showcasing his muscular body, and tight black jeans. His darn hair was slicked back.

“So close…” Caleb whispered to the group, which of course Alex heard. He flashed a grin.

“Relax. I’m driving. And will sit at the bar drinking soda or coffee. I have no desire to cramp your style. Just there to keep your a**** out of trouble” he advised the group of young adults. They all headed out bidding the King and Queen a nice night, following Alex out the large black hummer outside.

Mia sat back in the back seat and looked at her friends. “We stick together” she directed them. They agreed. She shrugged off her leather jacket to leave in the truck. Alex raised an eyebrow. Mia raised her finger to her lips “shhhhh” she told him. He mimicked zipping his lips in the rearview mirror. After a short drive they arrived at Mated.

Alex turned to the group from the drivers seat. “Behave and if there’s any issues - mind link me. I wont be far but you know. Just in case. I’m there.” They all nodded and exited the vehicle.

There was large crowd lined up to get in. Large bouncers that were clearly wolves at the entrance guarding a tacky purple velour rope.

“Princess Mia!!!” A few voices from the crowd recognized her. She briefly froze. Not wanting to be a princess tonight - she just wanted to be 18 and having fun. But she turned on her charm, smiling and waving before being ushered inside the VIP doors with her friends and Alex.

The group took a look around the already bumping dance club. It wasn’t packed but there were humans and wolves and a few vamps dancing. Some at tables. Others mingling. Mia and her group were lead over to a very large booth. Alex quickly excused himself and sat down at the bar in the corner, where he could clearly watch all doors and the group.

Mia smiled - convinced that it would be a good night out with her friends.

Then. She heard Aria.

“Mate”
