I was frustrated, to say the least. Being taken to Nathan's place felt like the last thing I wanted. Sure, there was a certain...rightness about being with him, but everything else screamed that he was trouble. Creepy trouble. And now, here I was, stuck with him. We pulled up to his place, a sprawling mansion with all the trimmings of someone who had way too much money and power. Great. Just what I needed—another Alpha-wannabe throwing his weight around. As we walked inside, Nathan started introducing me to everyone, including his close friends, Billy and Bobby. Who told me to call them Bill and Bob. Billy was tall, blonde and tanned with a sharp wit and seemed to have a dark sense of humor. "Vanessa, good to see you again or is it Melissa," Billy started, a smirk playing on his lips. Who the hell were Melissa and Vanessa, was he a play boy? I mean he was hot who would resist him. Bobby, shorter black hair and stockier burst out laughing, slapping Nathan on the back. " Come on Billy don't be such a pain in the ass. is this the new girl you told us about?” Before Nathan could answer Billy interrupted, “does Lucian know you brought a stray home?" “Yeah, man. Lucian's gonna have your head for this one!" Bill and Bob exchanged high fives that were so loud and powerful. “ Never call her a stray,”Nathan shot them both a look that could kill, and they quickly quieted down, though Bobby still chuckled under his breath. He turned to them, his tone serious. "I don't care what you two think, but your job now is to keep her safe at all costs. And no, Lucian doesn’t know. Not yet." I felt my stomach twist at the mention of Lucian. Whoever he was, it sounded like Nathan was in over his head with this. After the introductions, Nathan gave me a tour of the house. It was huge, with more rooms than anyone could possibly need. But when we got to what was apparently going to be our shared room, I drew the line. "No way," I said, crossing my arms. "I'm not sharing a room with you." Nathan raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "And why not? It's the safest most comfortable room in the house." "Because it's weird!" I blurted out, feeling my face heat up. "I barely know you, and you expect me to...what? Just sleep next to you like we’re best buddies?" He laughed, a deep, rich sound that only annoyed me more. "Fine, fine. You can have the guest room. But just so you know, it's right next to mine." "Great," I muttered, rolling my eyes. Nathan showed me to the guest room, which was nice enough, I supposed. He then mentioned he had to deal with some pack issues and that if I needed anything, Billy and Bobby would be around. "Yeah, sure," I mumbled as he left, already feeling more tired than I should have. A hot shower was all I needed to clear my head. Except… I quickly realized I had no idea where the shower was. Nathan hadn’t shown me where it was during the tour, and the only one I remembered was in his room. I debated with myself for a moment before deciding that I’d sneak into his bathroom. He was supposed to be gone for a while anyway, right? I stripped off my clothes and tiptoed into his room. Peeking to make sure the room was empty, which it was. And he was right about one thing , his bed looked incredibly comfortable and I couldn’t resist bouncing on it a few times. The sheets were so soft and silky, and before I knew it, I was rolling around in them, ruffling everything up. Oh, this was going to be a pain to fix later. The bathroom was spotless, everything in order and organized, so much so that it made me question if Nathan was some kind of neat freak. Dropping my towel, I didn’t even bother fully closing the door behind me , why would I? He wasn’t around. I stepped under the hot water, letting it wash away my worries. Everything felt good, peaceful even, until I heard the bedroom door open. I froze. I peeked through the slightly open door, my heart racing. Nathan was back, but why so early don't pack meetings take hours. When he entered the room , the first thing he noticed was the bed, yes the bed I used as a jumping castle. I felt so embarrassed. he walked over to his dresser and started undressing. My eyes widened as I watched him peel off his shirt, revealing a sculpted chest and abs that could make any woman weak in the knees. My mouth went dry. ' Release them boys,' I thought to myself. I should have stopped watching. I knew I should have. But as his hands went to his trousers, I couldn’t look away. Oh god, he was going to take them off. And he did. I nearly fainted when I saw how...perfect he was. I quickly snapped back to reality when he started to turn around. Crap! I slowly closed the door, but to my horror, there was no key. I was doomed. I heard his footsteps getting closer and decided to hold on to the door for dear life. He tried to open it, but I held firm, like we were playing a ridiculous game of tug-of-war. Finally, I heard him curse under his breath. "I thought I asked the maid to always leave this door open." He gave up, walking away. I waited, barely breathing until I heard the main door close behind him. I grabbed my towel and made a mad dash out of the room. Of course, in my haste, I got lost. The house was a damn maze, and I wasn’t paying attention when I ran into someone. Nathan. He stood there, dressed in a bathrobe, his chest partly exposed, and all I could think about was how close he had been to catching me in the shower. "Why are you walking around the house half-naked?" he asked, his eyes dropping to my towel, which now seemed way too short. "I, uh, went to take a shower and got lost," I stammered, trying to cover myself better. "How could you get lost when your room is just opposite a bathroom?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. The way he looked at me made me feel like an i***t. I blushed, realizing how stupid it sounded now that he mentioned it. He shook his head and took my hand, leading me back to my room. As we walked, we passed Billy, Bobby, and some maids who whistled and teased us. I could feel my face burning as they made their comments. When we finally reached my room, he pointed out the bathroom I had missed. I couldn’t believe how close it was. I felt so stupid. “ You told me you had a meeting how did it go?” I asked wanting to understand why he was back early. “Oh the issue was minor and was resolved before I could get there.” " Oh okay, thanks," I muttered, desperate to get away from him and his teasing friends. "No problem," he replied, smiling slightly. He turned to leave. But just as I was about to drop my towel and change, the door swung open again. Nathan stood there, his eyes locked on me, and I froze. Time seemed to stand still, his gaze fixed on me , he didn't even blink once.Neither of us said a word until I broke the silence. "Uh, Nathan?" He blinked and quickly turned around. "Sorry! I, uh, just wanted to let you know that dinner will be ready soon." "Right, thanks," I replied, feeling my heart pound in my chest as I clutched the towel closer. He left, and I quickly shut the door, my mind reeling from everything that had just happened. This place, Nathan, all of it was too much. But for some reason, it also felt right, like I was meant to be here with him. As crazy as that sounded.
