Belladonna's POV
I woke up laying in a soft fluffy cozy bed, my body still aching. Did they catch me? All I remembered were the headlights.
I looked at myself and noticed my wounds were dressed and my clothes changed. The room was warm and smelled faintly of lavender. I blinked, trying to make sense of everything and my surroundings.
Panic surged through me, and I tried to get up, but my legs felt like jelly. As I swung them over the edge of the bed , rushing up to try and peek through the window, I was stopped by the painful throb. Walking slowly I managed to peak and figured I was in a hotel room.
The throbbing got worse , and I began to lose my balance swaying and stumbling around the room. Then the door creaked open, and a woman in a white doctor's coat walked in.
“Whoa there,” she said gently, helping me back onto the pillows. “You need to rest.”
“Where am I?” I croaked, my throat dry and scratchy.
“You’re safe,” she assured me, checking my bandages. “Just rest for now.”
I wanted to argue, to demand answers, but my body betrayed me, sinking back into the bed as exhaustion and pain took over. I drifted in and out of sleep, however the events of the past days swirled in my mind like a nightmare.
Later, a soft knock on the door pulled me from my restless slumber. A young ginger haired servant girl peeked in, her eyes wide with curiosity and concern. She came in and asked if I wanted to eat anything but I declined.
All I wanted was to know how I got there and who had brought me here but all she did was paste a weird wide smile saying, “If you want to thank the person who saved you, you should go see him. His been asking if you are awake yet, I'm sure he'd be glad to know you are,” she said softly.
Thank who ? No ways. I wasn't in for the idea of having to make acquaintances , all I wanted was to run, far far away...to disappear and never look back. But something in her eyes made me pause. I nodded reluctantly, and agreed to see who saved me.
I looked at myself and the huge shirt that was touching the top of my knees, it wasn't presentable but I didn't have clothes anyway. She led me down a series of hallways until we reached a large door.
“He’s in there,” she whispered, giving me a reassuring smile before scurrying away.
I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Inside, a man stood by the window, looking out at the city below. He turned as I entered, and my breath caught in my throat.
This wasn't the right moment for , but damn the man was fineeeee. He was handsome, sculpted by the Moon gods themselves. He had dark hair that fell in soft waves around his face, and piercing blue eyes that seemed to see right through me. He had an air of authority, and for a moment, I thought he definitely must be an Alpha.
“Hello,” he said, his voice, his voice was so deep and soothing. “ Please, come in.” I stepped inside, feeling small and vulnerable under his gaze.
“ I’m Nathan Reid,” he said extending his hand , probably expecting me to introduce myself as well.
But I just stood there motionless, I wasn't going to risk my identity. What if he was an Alpha like I assumed and heard about me through whispers and walls that have ears.
He gestured me towards a chair.“Thank you for saving me,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. He smiled, a gentle, understanding smile. “ was the least I could do. How are you feeling?”
“Weak,” I admitted, sinking into a chair.
“But don't worry about it, I'll be leaving soon. I don’t want to cause any trouble.”
He shook his head, a frown creasing his brow. “You’re not causing any trouble. Please, stay and rest. You need time to heal.”
“I can’t stay,” I insisted, my heart pounding. “I really need to go.”
I could have sworn I heard a growl coming from him . He sighed, walking over to a table and pouring a glass of water. He handed it to me, his fingers brushing mine. “You’re safe here,” he said softly. “No one will hurt you I promise. Please, just give yourself time to recover.”
I looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of deceit, but all I saw was sincerity. “Why are you helping me?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“Because you deserve to be helped,” he said simply, why would he want to help a stranger, I expected him to be more skeptical and doubtful about me .
“ I don't know what happened to you, but no one should go through what you’ve been through.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and I quickly looked away, not wanting to show weakness. He quickly came to my side and embraced me . It was so warm and comforting , for 21 years of my life I had always wished for someone to hold me, to make me feel like I mattered and meant something , and that moment in his arms was nothing but therapeutic.
“Thank you,” I whispered , tucking my head in his chest, and god he smelt so heavenly. A mixture of vanilla, lavender and sandalwood.
He nodded, his expression kind. “I’ll leave you to rest now. If you need anything, just let the staff know.”
He let go of me and gave me a reassuring smile, I didn't want the moment to end, but I also needed to get my ass out of there. As he turned to leave, I found myself speaking up. “Nathan?”
He looked back at me, a question in his eyes.
“I appreciate it,” I said, my voice breaking. “Really.”
He smiled again, that same gentle smile. “You’re welcome. Get some rest.”
I watched him go, my mind spinning. Nathan Reid was unlike any man I had ever met, coming to think of it I had never met any other guy before , but still He was kind, understanding. I wish I could have more of him but I needed to come up with an escape plan fast , before he could find out who I truly am.
