Chapter Nineteen It was with some trepidation Kes unlocked the door of his house. To his relief, Isobel didn’t come into the hall, angry at him for arriving home late again. He could hear her in the kitchen. The rest of the house was dark and quiet. Miki was already asleep, of course. Kes felt bad for not having set eyes on his child for the entire day for the second time that week. He would make it up to her on the weekend. They would all go somewhere together, somewhere remote and beautiful, where he could forget about work and concentrate fully on his family. He’d heard about cabins in the mountains that were available to rent. He would look into it tomorrow and book something. Bracing himself for the onslaught of Isobel’s reaction to his broken promise that he wouldn’t be home late,
