Ryker is more than happy with the gift he received from Samantha, and even more so with the fact that she baked for him. It means that she is willing to make an effort for him, that she cares enough to do so.
His father didn’t even bother to bring a cake home. And never mind being home for the occasion, he didn’t even send him a text to wish him a happy birthday. Ryker realizes that his father no longer cares about him, not the way he used to. Ever since his mom passed away, they drifted apart. His father became a workaholic, and paradoxically, he also became a womanizer.
One would think that with the hours he works, he would have no time for pleasure. But he does.
