My Mate Is A Murderer!

1566 Words
ETHAN'S POV I wonder what troubling news Tracy found out that Griffin had to pull me out of my meeting with two of our allies. I walk into my spacious office and find her seated on the guest seats with two other people I have never met before. Her hair and clothes look unusually dull, like she didn't have time to style the hair and put on something exquisite like she does every time she shows up here. She also appears more nervous than yesterday. She offered to find out more information about my beautiful mate just so I could know the reason three soldiers were chasing after her even after crossing our border. I wonder if whatever Tracy discovered was really too important that they couldn't wait for my meeting to end. "What was do urgent? I literally had to leave an important meeting to come here." I say halting not so far from the door. Tracy stands and takes a couple of steps forward. Your mate was escaping from being arrested! she killed three of her friends." Tracy reveals in an angry tone. "What?!" I hear myself exclaim even before my mind can fully process what she just said. "I... am afraid that your mate is a murderer. She killed three people and tried to run away." Tracy repeats the same bad news in a lower, shakey voice. Shock and range makes my heart throb and my fists clench. I know Tracy would not lie to me or my family. Her heart is too good to make up such an accusation. Whatever she says, she believes it's the truth. But I find it hard to believe that my innocent looking mate would have murdered anyone. "How did you find this out?" I ask. "Emma Abrams is a wanted culprit in Silver Moon pack. Her evil act is all that people are talking about. It was so easy for me to find out the truth because so many people knows about it." She answers looking sad but at the same time angry. "My mate is wolfless, how would she manage to kill three people?" I ask, feeling like something about this is not right. "She poisoned them." Tracy answers in a firm tone. "These two witnesses followed me here to tell you exactly what they saw in case you doubt me." She adds gesturing at the two nervous guests in the room, an old man and a woman. "I don't doubt you. I know you wouldn't lie to me." I say and she immediately sighs in relief. "I just want to make sure that what you have been told is true. You didn't have to carry witnesses all the way here since I can send my own men to investigate." A sudden look of shock takes over her face momentarily but it fades away quickly. "I asked as many people as I could and they all told me the same thing. There is no way it could be false when these two people saw it happen." She affirms, pointing at the two guests. "I went out there to investigate so that you wouldn't have to, remember?" She adds and I nod. The old woman she brought as witness quickly steps forward and bows her head. "Your Majesty... my name is Helen. I come from Silver moon pack." She stutters before clearing her throat and taking a deep breath. "There is no need for you to send anyone to investigate. I and my older brother witnessed everything." She informs in a more reassuring tone. The man behind her nods his head in agreement. "Okay. Tell me what happened." I order. Excitement lights up her face and she walks forward further until she is standing next to Tracy. "Emma Abrams showed up at my shop two days ago in the company of three of her friends. The friends waited outside while she came inside and bought several sponge cakes. We saw her spray some kind of red powder on them before she carried the cakes to her friends but didn't eat any herself. Minutes later she ran away when they started getting sick. They died within fifteen minutes of consuming whatever she sprayed on those cakes." She narrates emotionally, then looks back at the man as if she is asking him to confirm everything she said. He hesitantly walks forward and looks up at me with a fearful expression. "Your Majesty we are really sorry that you had to hear these things about your mate. It must be heartbreaking. But we thought it's better if you knew the truth." He says in a hoarse voice, his fear and anger very evident despite the effort he is putting to speak smoothly. "What... Emma Abrams did was... atrocious. I was at my sister's kiosk to visit my nephew it happened. I don't know why she did something so cruel to her friends." He asserts. I walk forward and take a seat on one of the empty seats because anger and shock are making my brain reel. There are no signs that either of the witnesses is lying. Which means that my mate is indeed a murderer. The fact that she lied about everything shows that she was doing her best to hide the truth. Guess the look of innocence on her face is only skin deep. "So she ran straight towards my kingdom after committing the crime?" I ask Tracy and her two witnesses. "Pack soldiers went looking for her at her parent's house but she had already packed and left. I heard they followed her by tracking her scent. Guess that's how they all ended up in your Kingdom." The man adds, reminding me that I killed those soldiers, to save my beautiful mate who turns out to be the one I should have killed. I saved the real monster! Apparently real life monsters have appealing, innocent faces to mask the evil within. I should have known better by now. I wonder how I didn't sense that much darkness in her when I carried her home. Maybe it was her alluring scent that made me ignore my instincts. I feel like I should have left those three wolves tear her apart and carry her head to their alpha. It's clear that she is pure evil and a bit too stupid as well. I wonder what wrongs I have committed to deserve to be paired to such a person? At least I have learned of who she really is before falling too deep in love with her. "Thanks for taking the long journey out of your pack to bring me this information. A group of my loyal soldiers will escort you back home." I tell the two nervous witnesses. They look genuinely pleased as they bow their heads and leave the room. Tracy approaches quietly and takes the seat by my side. "I am so sorry. You deserved someone better. This must be disheartening. I wish there is something I can do to help you overcome the pain." She puts one hand around my shoulders in a comforting gesture while the other soothingly rubs the side of my arm. Her eyes are wet with tears. She is genuinely hurting for a problem that should be solely mine. "You already helped me find out the truth about my awful mate. I don't care about her anymore, she is nothing like the mate I expected to have." I reply. The bitter truth however is that my heart feels like it has been crashed into a thousand tiny pieces. I wish I never went looking for the source of the screams that night. If I had just turned and come back home I would not be regretting killing three soldiers to save her. She totally deserved the painful death they would have given her. "What will you do with her?" Tracy asks. I stay silent for several minutes because I was avoiding thinking about that while my emotions are whirling. "Everyone including the people of her pack will be enraged if you let her get away with this." Tracy warns, sounding enraged herself. "No one is letting her get away with it. Being my mate doesn't make her that much special from everyone else. The law applies on everyone within the borders of our Kingdom." I take a deep breath in an attempt to calm my pounding heart. I never thought I would ever be forced to make this tough decision against someone I was destined to love. It's disheartening even when I know well she is a lying monster and not the beautiful, innocent girl I had thought she is. "We both know that the punishment for murder is execution. And that's what she is going to get." I finally make up my mind despite the pain that those words causes me to feel from the inside. "I understand how you feel. But you have made a brave decision. I think that's what makes you the best King this Kingdom can ever have." Tracy comforts in a firm, confident tone like she has suddenly overcome her sadness. "Since you're feeling a little broken I will be the one to ask the members of the council to gather in the courtroom so that the sentence can be officially delivered." She says then pecks me on the forehead before striding towards the door.
