Alpha Bruce was making my head spin, and it was not easy to think with him so close to me while he claimed we wouldn’t be a strange pairing simply because we were Alpha and Omega. No, we would be a very strange pair, because I was so low-ranking that even my dynamic couldn’t change my status. He had to be making fun of me or… I wasn’t sure… Planning something! It hurt, and I wasn’t going to let him goad me like this.
“Please don’t be cruel,” I whispered.
“I am not. I will never be cruel to you. I promise you that,” he said. “But I am an Alpha, and I am an Alpha at the perfect age to find a mate.”
I took another step back, not understanding why he was bringing this up to me. “T-Then you should go find one!” I exclaimed and tried charging past him, but he slipped his arm around my stomach, making me let out a little gasp as his arm was massive and pushed the air from my lungs.
“Who says I haven’t?” he asked.
“Then go spend time with her!”
He chuckled a little, but I didn’t find this amusing. I just wanted to go home where I could hide away and forget about this weird day.
“Shouldn’t an Alpha choose an Omega who can bring him strong heirs?” he teased me.
“Then go find such an Omega.”
“Why? I have one in my pack.”
“Alpha Bruce, I told you I don’t find this funny. Can I go home now?”
“I thought we already clarified I wasn’t laughing and since the rain is still pouring down, you aren’t going anywhere.”
“Well, I am not staying in this room!” I stated.
“Ana, just calm down, I just don’t want you to feel scared of me and Quinn.”
“Is that it?”
“Yes,” he replied.
“All right. I’m not scared of you,” I stated.
“I believe that as much as if you just told me you weren’t shaking from being so close to me,” he pointed out.
I was shaking, but I was unsure why. Bruce had a strange effect on me, but I also felt rather terrified of being lured into a cruel prank by him and Quinn. So maybe I was shaking from fear, Bruce’s effect, or maybe anger? I couldn’t quite say. It was all confusing, and it felt like I couldn’t breathe in here. I needed to get out. I needed to retreat to my home and bury myself in Bruce’s old shirt and just make the world go away.
“Please, let me go!”
Bruce sighed, clearly reluctant to do so, but then his arm slowly lowered and I stormed over to where the door was. However, Quinn got in my way this time, jumping from the couch and placing a hand on the door.
“Quinn, step aside,” Bruce ordered.
Quinn’s dark eyes held a strange power, I couldn’t quite decipher. He seemed almost on the verge of snapping, but he couldn’t deny a direct order from Bruce. Slowly, his hand slid from the door, and the moment it was gone, I ripped the bedroom door open and stormed from Bruce’s room and downstairs. I knew I told him I would stay in the house, but I had lied. I grabbed the door handle and opened the front door before storming through the pouring rain, not caring about getting drenched.
-Quinn-
When I heard the front door closed, I knew Ana had taken off once more. I was about to follow, but Bruce grabbed my arm, holding me back.
“Why are you stopping me?” I growled.
“She is terrified. We pushed her too far,” he pointed out.
I knew he was right. Ana had stopped smelling enticing and begun reeking of fear. We weren’t meant to make her feel afraid, but comfortable. I hated she was so reluctant to accept us, but it was understandable. She was used to being the lowest of the lowest. It was going to be wonderful when we could correct it.
“Did you mean it?” I asked.
“What?”
“That we can spend time with her?”
“We only have a week left, and I am sure we can behave.”
“Really? After what almost happened on the couch?” I asked, gesturing to the furniture.
He sighed, appearing a bit unsure. “I… don’t want to risk them drowning her again, and maybe we should use this week to make her comfortable with us. Our plan has flaws I realized.”
“Flaws?”
“Ana wants us, but is terrified we are like everyone else, tricking her in the end. We have shot ourselves in the foot staying so far away from her because we were scared that we couldn’t control ourselves around her. Now she thinks we are no different from the rest. We need to change that,” he explained.
“Ah, f*cking great. We try to be gentlemen, and in the end we end up with a mate who is terrified of us!” I exclaimed.
“Don’t worry. We will fix the situation and make Ana ours, regardless. She is an Omega. She is meant to want us.”
“And what if she cries the whole time that we take her? Is that how we want to start our union with her?” I inquired.
“That won’t happen, which is why we will be around her more this week.”
“And won’t people start questioning it?”
“Will it matter?” he asked.
“What?”
“Quinn, I am going to ask you something very important, something I have been a bit reluctant to ask because I was unsure of the answer myself. But if it turns out Ana isn’t truly ours and it’s only her Omega side that draws us to her, will you claim her with me despite it?”
I blinked rapidly, his words confusing me. Bruce kept gazing into my eyes with deep intensity, begging me not to tell him that I wouldn’t. However, I couldn’t understand why we were even discussing this.
“Do you question if Ana is our mate?” I inquired.
“Question it? No. But do I fear the Goddess might sometimes act in mysterious ways that could be interpreted as a little sadistic? Yes.”
“What?”
“Listen, I want Ana more than I can say, even now, even if she weren’t our mate or even an Omega, but I just want to be certain you stand beside me, should it turn out she isn’t our mate,” I explained.
“You want her regardless?”
“Absolutely.”
“What if our true mate would walk in one day in this house?” I questioned.
“I still want Ana.”
His reply made me smile because I couldn’t imagine not wanting Ana either. She was our mate, even if the Goddess didn’t think so, we would still want her.
“Good,” I said, my smile growing, which elicited his.
“So we agree? No matter what, she is ours?”
“I am surprised you have to ask.”
“I just want to make sure.”
“Bruce, we always knew that claiming a mate together was a good decision. The world isn’t safe, rogues and vampires threatening our territories. Ana is a tiny Omega. Having two mates would definitely benefit her,” I agreed.
Bruce and I knew our positions were both a blessing and a curse, because we were the pillars and if you targeted the pillars, you could also destroy the pack. Something could easily happen to us. Something did to Bruce’s mother, and so therefore, we decided sharing a mate was a good choice. However, sharing Ana felt Goddess-given. She belonged with us, and there was no doubt in my mind, true mate or not, she would belong to us.
“So we agree?” he asked once more.
“If you want a loud yes, then you have it. She is ours.”
“Good, then tomorrow, we go get her and follow her here. From now on, she doesn’t leave our sight.”
“F*ck, finally!” I exclaimed, making him chuckle.
