23 The following morning found us at the train station awaiting our ride. I looked up and down the platform, but other than the conductor we were the only ones waiting for the train. Though Asher didn’t move, I noticed his eyes flickered over the area, as well. “You seem to be looking for someone,” he commented. “I was just wondering where that one guy went, the pretty one,” I reminded him with a shrug. “He wasn’t one of the villagers who we woke up on the hill.” Asher nodded. “I had noticed that, as well, but perhaps his travels took him beyond the edges of the Wilmot estate.” He glanced down at me. “Was the old woman who talked to you among them?” I shook my head. “I didn’t see her, either.” “How strange,” he mused as we heard the far-off whistle that promised us a ride.
