CHAPTER EIGHTEEN The next day, Ryker took Cupcake on a walk around the neighborhood without the boot, per his doctor’s orders. He’d chosen this time because Lucy had a call with a client and wouldn’t see him. Something was up with her. She’d given off mixed signals at his parents’ house. Her good night kiss suggested she was into him. But her attitude about the tabloid article made him think she might be unsettled by his fame. Ryker didn’t know what her reaction to not wearing the boot would be, so he hadn’t told her. The little gray dog ran ahead, pulling against the leash. “Are you ready for me to leave for Phoenix, Cupcake?” The dog ignored him and sniffed a bush. “I’m not.” Giving up what he and Lucy had together would be tough. More time with her might be nice. More than nice.
