[Bianca] I stared at the three contracts that I had laid on the kitchen counter. My aunt was out – no surprise there – and my mother was sleeping. I carefully took my time reading through each contract and by the time I was done, I was a trembling mess. I was confused, unsure, and terrified. “B?” I looked up and then quickly made my way to the bedroom to see my mother was awake and searching for something. “Mom, what do you need?” I asked as I rushed to her side. “Water,” she hissed out as she tried to reach for the glass on the bedside table. I took the glass and handed it to her and watched as she desperately gulped down the entire contents. I refilled the glass and this time she sipped on it as she relaxed against the headboard. “How are you feeling?” I then questioned, even though I could see that nothing had changed. She still looked like death and while I knew the state hospital was helping her, it wasn’t enough. “Pain,” she whispered before she closed her eyes. I got to work checking her vitals while she rested but she wasn't asleep. Then I prepared her medication and offered her something to eat. It wasn’t much but a simple chicken salad. She struggled to eat and only managed a few bites before she took her medication and went back to sleep. I would have loved to discuss the contracts with her, but I was on my own. I wouldn’t discuss the details with my aunt but suddenly I remembered Milly. She had been nice and, clearly, she knew all about the immortals. I went back to the kitchen to retrieve the contracts before I left the apartment. “Hmm?” Milly hummed as she opened the door and smiled when she saw me. Her eyes went wide at the sight of the three brown envelopes and she waved me inside. “I’m sorry to just drop in like this,” I remarked apologetically, but Milly shook her head and I followed her into the kitchen. “It’s no problem,” she said as she went about preparing coffee while she glanced at the contracts in my hand. “You need someone to talk to?” I nodded and she smiled. “Well, then, go ahead,” “Ok,” I said as I watched her in silence for a bit. I was trying to gather my thoughts and while the kettle hissed and finally boiled, I was ever grateful for the hot cup of coffee. We moved from the kitchen to the living room and Milly sat down on an armchair while I opted for the couch. “So…I see more than one,” Milly commented and I blushed. “Right…a vampire by the name of Dante Hudson,” I looked over to see her face, but she simply nodded. “Do you know him?” I then asked. “No, I’ve heard of him though,” my eyes went wide at that and Milly looked thoughtful. “Each faction or group of immortals are led by a leader, an Alpha, a King,” “Ahuh,” I leaned forward, setting my cup on the coffee table. I wanted to know everything Milly knew. “Dante is the clan leader of the vampires,” she paused to sip at her coffee before she continued. “He was engaged or whatever to his mate…his soul mate, his partner, his whatever you want to call her,” “What happened to her?” I asked curiously. “Or is she like…still alive?” “No, vampires who have partners don’t need to feed on anyone but their partner. Mary-Ann died…um, about ten years ago, I think,” I nodded as I listened closely. This was interesting stuff and I wanted to know as much about these immortals as possible. I wanted to know so that I could make the right choices. “How did she die?” “Well, immortals aren’t necessarily immortal, while most of them are such as the vampires who can live for over five hundred years. They are supernatural beings in all honesty,” Milly then eyed me suspiciously. “Although these are things you should have learned about at school,” “I didn’t…I didn’t get to finish high school,” I admitted softly. “My mother…she needed me and we couldn’t afford the fees,” Milly’s features softened and I blushed an embarrassing shade of pink to which Milly simply chuckled. “That explains why you don’t know about any of this. Ok, so, the vampires have been around for centuries and they are a vile, vicious species…or at least, they used to be. They would hunt down any life form and suck them dry. It was bad, honestly,” Milly sipped on her coffee some more, and while I was shocked to hear about the vampires taking innocent lives, I began to wonder how safe this whole contract thing was. “Any type of shapeshifter was known to be just as vicious in their own right until George Brown begged for his life,” “What?!” I all but screeched as my eyes felt like they were about to pop straight out of my head. “He was being hunted by a vampire…Dante, in fact…” my heart skipped a beat when she said his name. “He begged and pleaded with him…he even made a trade,” “A trade?” “George offered up his youngest daughter, Mary-Ann, to be Dante’s bride. However, Dante was outraged with the offer, but it was enough to save George’s life. It was during that time that George came up with the idea of helping the supernatural species so that the human race could survive,” “Wow,” I whispered. “Right, so, the organization was founded and that’s how it all began. It wasn’t always easy, but as time went on, they perfected the system and humans were no longer living in fear. The supernaturals no longer had to hide and we all just…well, we all just kind of lived peacefully together,” “Mary-Ann?” I urged curiously. “Mary-Ann and Dante fell in love shortly after that. Dante had worked closely with George and had met his family. Mary-Ann became infatuated with Dante and offered to be his first consort. However, he declined her offer and chose another. It was only later that it was revealed that he had developed feelings for her and, instead of choosing her as his consort, he chose her as his bride. A few years later, he gave up his consort and turned Mary-Ann into a vampire,” “s**t, seriously?” I was shocked. I mean, I shouldn’t have been, but I was. “Yeah, he did and they lived many wonderful years together and Dante was hardly seen anymore. However, even supernaturals have a weakness and the stories you hear about sunlight and garlic or whatever, aren’t true. There is only one thing that can kill a vampire and that is by cutting off its head and pulling out its heart,” “Gross,” I scrunched my nose up in disgust and Milly laughed. “Yes, but…unfortunately, Mary-Ann had been in the wrong place at the wrong time during a war between two packs. In the middle of the crossfire, she had been murdered and Dante was beside himself. He confronted the packs and that’s why there is only one pack now. The wolves aren’t divided and there is only one Alpha to rule them all,” “s**t,” I muttered. “Alpha Tyson Miller?” “The Miller lineage, yes,” she said slowly as her eyes gazed down at the contracts that lay on my lap. “Don’t tell me…” “Yes, Alpha Tyson Miller is my second contract,” “Well, f**k the world and give everyone free cookies and milk,” I raised a brow at her weird way of cursing. “The hatred between vampires and wolves is…well, it is bad, really bad. Dante killed almost half of the wolf shifters in a fit of revenge rage so…yeah, those two species do not trust or like each other. They live in peace together because the Millers knew that Dante had every right to be mad. Anyway, after the wolves banded together under one ruler, so the other shapeshifters did the same,” “What about…Lucien Owen?” “Oh no, seriously? He is your third?” “Yes,” “No, do not accept his contract,” she suddenly stated and I frowned. “Well, why not? Is it because of the s*x?” I asked, referring to the dragon’s king preferences. “Yes, because it’s not just s*x. Trust me, I was lucky to never be chosen by him, but I know of a few who broke their contract because of his…desires,” “What the hell do you mean by that?” I asked as I opened up his contract and scanned through it. “His preferences are listed as s****l,” “I don’t know the details, Bianca, but I can tell you that dragons are…they are strong and dominant creatures. They…just…be careful with Lucien Owen. He has been the king of his faction for many, many years and he is brutal and rules with an iron fist,” I shook with fear from the description as I glanced down at the contract. I was a virgin and I had no idea what he would expect of me, but was I truly going to give up my virginity to a dragon? I shuddered at the thought before I looked over at Milly. “The money…” I said before my voice trailed off and she nodded slowly as she looked around. “I was only ever chosen once…just once and that paycheck not only paid for this apartment but for almost everything you see,” I glanced around, but I was confused. “If you got that much, why didn’t you move into the city?” “I did,” she said. “But after that first year…and then every year thereafter, I wasn’t chosen and my funds were running out, so I moved here,” she sighed softly as she leaned back in her seat. “Then I just got too old…to them anyway…so it became pointless,” “Sorry,” “Don’t be, you’ve been blessed with three at once…is that even allowed?” she asked and I shrugged. “Well, aside from Lucien…I mean, Dante and Tyson aren’t bad…I guess, tell me about their contracts,” “Dante requires daily feedings. According to the contract, we will meet in person to discuss the feedings. I may choose to visit a nurse and have blood drawn and deliver it to him, or he can feed directly…from me,” I shivered at the thought, but as I glanced over at Milly she was smiling. A far-away look in her eyes that made me wonder. “Who was your immortal?” “David Murphy, a vampire soldier with a thirst so great he nearly sucked me dry…more than once,” she said dreamily and I frowned. “Let me tell you, when they feed from you…child, it is an experience that I can only describe as ecstasy,” “What?” “When he latched onto my neck and…it makes me hot and flustered just thinking about it, remembering it,” I shook my head and carried on. “Anyway, that’s his only requirement or whatever…he wants my blood. Daily. Moving on,” I set his contract aside and eyed Tyson’s. “Tyson, on the other hand, he wants me to literally be the pack’s Luna for a year. I have to attend meetings, give speeches and public appearances as well as be his…friend,” “s*x?” “It doesn’t say anything about intimacy,” I admitted, relieved. Dante and Tyson’s contracts didn’t mention anything s****l and that was a good thing. “Lucien, on the other hand…his requirement is s****l. He demands my presence at least four times a week,” “Fucker,” Milly growled out. “How is the money?” “Each of them…well, it’s a lot of money,” I revealed softly. “It would take care of my mother,” I added. “Ah, and that is why you’ll accept all three,” I looked down at the carpeted floor and sighed. “Don’t be afraid to use them, Bianca. After all, they are using you,” “But…wont I just be…like…” I shut my mouth before I could say anything further, but Milly chuckled. “No, you won't be seen as a w***e, Bianca. It’s a job, a contract, and easy money. It’s your time, it's your blood, and ok…it’s your body. Make a decision but you may not get another opportunity like this,”
