Koda’s P.O.V.
My feet stepped across the hardwood floors of my brother's house, as I made my way from the kitchen to the living room. The scent of my beautiful mate, Jules, still lingered in the air. It was a bittersweet reminder of her being here just a matter of seconds ago. But clearly, as my eyes looked around the place, Jenna had been correct in her statement, and now, my mate was gone. With none other than my very own grandmother, for which I honestly didn’t know if I should be happy about, or either really, really scared. I couldn’t believe Jenna had even allowed Jules to leave, with Gran, out of all people. God only knew what kind of evil plan Gran would have up her sleeve, especially now that she knew for a fact that Jules was my one true mate.
Oh God…
she is so going to try and intervene…
I need to go after Jules, and save her!
Or try to save whatever Gran will destroy…
For all I know, Gran was already at the store making Jules try out wedding dresses…
As I walked back inside the kitchen, Adam was sitting on a chair, and Jenna was sitting on his lap as if they were truly attached by the hip, which honestly made me feel sick right now, or probably jealous… Now, don’t get me wrong here, I wasn’t jealous over Adam being with Jenna, I was jealous over the fact that Adam could have his mate sitting on his lap, while mine was on a dangerous road trip with the devil in disguise herself. Jenna had been a warm and welcoming presence in all of our lives, ever since the day Adam had found her as his one true mate. And she had been there for the entire family ever since. Especially for me, with helping me with the construction of my restaurant. Jenna had inherited a building company from her late uncle, and in the end, she decided to sell the company because it didn’t make her happy. But she did have one condition on selling it, which had been to send over a team to help me, free of charge. A gesture from Jenna that I knew I would never be able to repay. Nor would I be able to repay her for making my brother so Goddamn happy.
“Are you OK?” Adam asked me as I entered the kitchen again. He could sense my unease and confusion since our wolves belonged to the same pack. His wolf, Canin, being the leader of our small group. I jumped and set down on the kitchen counter, as I dropped my head in my hands, feeling so utterly lost for the first time in my life, probably for the first time since that day my parents had died.
“Jenna, not to sound mean to you right now, but why on earth did you hand Jules over to Gran out of all people?” I asked her in despair, looking up from my hands into her pale blue eyes that were looking at me with wonder, as if somehow, she had no idea what I was talking about here.
“Koda, have you met your grandmother? There was nothing I could have done that would have changed her mind. That woman is more hardheaded than a bull.” Jenna told me, sounding stunned because she was in fact right, and I sighed, knowing very well what Jenna meant, and that she was also telling the truth. There was no trying to change our Gran’s mind, at least not once she had set her mind on something.
I nodded in understanding, even though it didn’t help to calm my wolf down.
“Now what do I do? I mean… if she was still here, I could have at least talked to her, asked her out, or hell… I could have even volunteered to show her around town…” I sighed, every possibility going up in smoke right before my eyes.
“Why are you so down, Koda? I mean… I’m sure you will see Jules again at some point in time. Ask her out then.” Jenna shrugged as she got up from Adam’s lap and walked over to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water before closing it back again.
“I know I will see her again at some point, my wolf just wants to see her right this very second,” I confessed to Jenna, seeing her eyes grow wide in wonder as she turned around to face me. We all knew that she knew our family secret of us Miller's being wolves. Hell, she had seen us with her own eyes, and she had been shocked to find out, to say the least. It had been a massive mistake on our part back at the time, almost ending with Adam losing her forever. But thank God, everything had turned out alright in the end. So yeah… Jenna knew our secret. I guess it just caught her by surprise, that now, we spoke about it out loud for the very first time.
“Why would your wolf have a problem with having to wait for one night? You’ll see her tomorrow over breakfast.” Jenna asked me as she shrugged, turning around and without a doubt looking at Adam for advice or guidance, who sent her a small smile in return.
"For Koda, it’s feels exactly like my wolf couldn’t stay away from you either, back then. Your mate is like your drug, you can’t live without her. You want to be with her all the time, protect her, love her.” Adam shrugged, as Jenna placed her hand on her chest.
“Oh honey, you never told me it was that intense for you.” She whispered to Adam, making me roll my eyes, because by the sounds of it, if I wouldn’t have been here right now, this would have been the cue where clothes would have gotten tossed around the room. But as I heard Jenna gasp for air the very next second, I knew that she had figured it all out… the one minor detail that we hadn’t told her out loud just yet.
Shit…
Here goes…
“NO! Does that mean that Jules is your…” She gasped, her eyes growing even bigger as her head yanked back in my direction, and I wondered if it would have given her a whiplash at the speed that she was going.
“Is Jules… your mate? Like Adam and me? You don’t just like her? You… you need her? You crave for her?” Jenna asked me in wonder.
“Yes.” I sighed, knowing I couldn’t keep Jules being my one true mate from Jenna either. Who the hell was I even kidding, to be honest? If she hadn’t found out right now, Adam would have told her, the second I had walked out of the kitchen. He didn’t really have a choice either, since Jenna basically carried the man’s balls around in her purse all day…
“No. Seriously?” Jenna asked again, shaking her head in disbelief, to which I groaned and let my head fall back into my hands. But when I had imagined Jenna’s next move to be a curse, or her throwing a punch at me over falling for her best friend, the kitchen filled up with a delighted scream, making both Adam and my head yank in Jenna’s direction, because for one microsecond, I thought that Jenna had either hurt herself very badly, or she had spotted a UFO landing in the back yard. But instead, we were watching how she was standing there with both arms in the air as if she had just won a marathon. Or the super bowl, even.
“Oh my God! This is such incredible news!” She laughed, jumping up and down before she skipped back over to Adam, leaning down to kiss him while holding his face in both her hands, since he was still sitting on his chair and hadn’t moved an inch.
“Can you imagine? My best friend and your brother are meant to be together!” She laughed again before her head turned to face me once again.
“Sorry Koda, but you are in for quite the treat with that one. Hah!” She laughed at me, and honestly, frightened me, before she gasped once more and turned her attention to Adam again.
“We can do double date nights!” She grinned widely, clapping her hands together while I gave Adam a look, hoping he would save me right now.
“Can I at least first get to know her myself? Hell, what if she doesn’t even like me?” I asked Jenna, who simply rolled her eyes at me.
“Yeah right, she doesn’t just like you back… she totally wants you.” Jenna waved away my doubts before she chuckled as if she was thinking backtof something that had happened earlier today. But this new intel surprised me, because clearly, my mate had been talking about me with her best friend already.
“She does?” I asked Jenna, my smile slowly turning into a full-out grin.
“Don’t you get cocky, just yet,” Adam told me in response, raising his eyebrows at me, probably being the only serious person left inside this room or even the house. But honestly, the longer I was staying here, the more it felt as if the room seemed to close in on me. I groaned, my own frustration growing with every passing second. It had just been minutes since Jules had arrived into my life, and I was already losing my Goddamn mind not being able to see her and know for a fact that she was safe.
“We need to come up with a plan here, I need to see her again, ASAP.” I told Jenna, sighing deeply, and luckily, Jenna nodded in agreement.
“I am heading to the bed and breakfast to check on Jules right now,” Jenna spoke, already picking up her purse and car keys.
“And you, are heading into the kitchen, mister. Because right now, I have my first guest inside my bed and breakfast, and she needs her breakfast in the morning, so start cooking, chef.” Jenna winked at me, giving me a slither of hope as she leaned in and kissed Adam on her way out.
“OK. Breakfast will be perfect.” I nodded, already thinking of what things I could make for my mate, in order to make her fall in love with me tomorrow morning.
“And if things go well, you can invite her to the restaurant opening,” Adam added, making me nod in agreement as I listened to his brilliant idea. And I sighed once again, because just an hour ago, my mind had been nowhere near any woman. And right now, I already couldn’t envision my life without the little gorgeous brunette. As Jenna left the house, to drive over to the bed and breakfast, I spent the rest of the evening coming up with a menu for breakfast, that was both perfect and not over the top for a bed and breakfast. And with a plan in motion, the idea of reuniting with Jules had rekindled my spirits, and I was eager to make it a breakfast to remember, for the woman who held my heart already, even though I hadn’t even spoken one single word to her.
