Prologue: The End
(4 and half years ago)
"Where the hell have you been?" Jade looked at her husband with a frown. He had been ignoring her for the past few months, because he was so busy with his job, and now suddenly he wanted to know where she had been? Strange.
"Work."She said as she looked at Jared. "I need to send out the scoop on the recent financial scandal in J&T Corporation."
Jared just stared at her. There was a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"Are you lying to me?" He asked.
"What happened? Why would I lie to you?" Now she was getting confused. He fisted his palms and took a menacing step closer to her and then he stopped on his track.
Jade wondered what was happening there. She had no damn idea.
"This..." He threw a receipt at her. Dinner reciept. Her dinner with Nate. She narrowed her eyes at him as her nostrils flared.
"Did you go through the trashcan, Jared? Are you f*cking spying on me?" She hissed at him.
Jared, her amazing Jared, her only family, was now standing opposite to her and accusing her. Cheating?! Cheating.
How could he not know that there was no other man in this world for her, except him. He was her one and only and how could he... how could he do this to her?
"You are cheating on me Jade." It wasn't even a question. It was a verdict. The judgement had been passed without even a statement from the accused. Jade's heart burned in anger. She wanted to grab him by his throat and scream at his face.
She took in a deep breath.
"Are you insane? Cheating? Why would I cheat on you? Because you haven't looked at me properly in three months?" She snapped as she grabbed the receipt from him and tore it off and threw it at his face.
He looked angry. She had never seen him like that. The man she had loved with all her heart. The man who had made her into everything she was... and now he was breaking her, again.
He is leaving me, too. She thought with a pang in her chest.
"What the f*ck are you saying, Jared? How the heck can you even think that?" Jade's eyes were furious as she took a step closer to him. He stared at her, eyes cold and frozen.
"So... because I haven't looked at you, you will go and find someone who will look at you?" He said as he threw a bunch of photos of her with another man.
"I had a dinner with Nate. Nate. My best friend."
"And?"
"And that is all. I am not going to dignify your words with a response. Good night, Jared. Talk with me after you have done being an idi0t."
"You are not running away from this." He grabbed her hand and she glared at him.
"Let go, you idi0t. Once you check your brain, come back. I don't want to talk with you right now."
"Who do you want to talk with? Nate?"
"You have gone crazy. F*cking crazy." Jade snapped as he grabbed her hand in his and pulled her closer to him. She was soft and for a second, he felt the same rush of feelings and desire.
Even after this... how could he desire her?
She looked at him with those beautiful eyes and for a second, he couldn't think straight. He slammed his lips against her soft lips, as
desire and anger pounded inside him, and she stiffened, before she started kissing him back. There was no way in hell she could have resisted him. Her body was always a puppet in Jared's hands.
His body was begging him to have her, all of her.
He wanted to push her away. He wanted to scream at her. He wanted to break everything. But right now, he couldn't help himself.
Right now, he wanted only her. Even with all this anger, even with the pain and betrayal, he wanted her like he wanted no one else. This was madness, but they had always been mad when they were together.
His lips were hard, punishing and she punished him back. She was no weakling. She would give back just as much as she got.
He bit her lips and she winced before she grabbed his hair in her hand and tugged. It stung. He growled under his breath as she clawed at his back, with need and fire. She was burning and, for a second, she wanted to burn with him, but then she realized what was happening, and pushed him away with a dark scowl.
"You accuse me of kissing another man and then you go and kiss me? What kind of idiocy is that? You know what, you are stupid, and unfortunate for you, there is no cure for stupidity."
He glared at her, his eyes dark and dangerous. "You are always good at talking."
"Yeah, and you are always good at being a blind moron." She said as she grabbed a vase in her hand and threw it down the floor. She wanted to break him, but this vase could do for now.
He took a step back from her, looking at her as if she had gone crazy. She had.
"So, you are saying these photos are not real?"
"I am saying... the f*ck with you. I don't have to stand here and take this."
He turned and left and she stared at his back before she leaned against the wall. She pushed her hands inside her face and she cried. She cried until her eyes burned. Her heart burned along with it.
Two days later, Jade believed his anger would subside, that he would come to her and listen to what she had to say, but... He didn't come home and Jade was afraid to drag their dirty laundry through his office.
That night when he came home, Jade was relieved to look at him. Oh, even in this blinding anger and betrayal, she missed him so damn much. She missed him with every fibre in her body.
She looked at him, her heart in her throat and he gave her a blank look as he threw a document in front of her.
"I want divorce." He said as he looked everywhere but at her. Jade just stared at the man in front of her, her eyes registering nothing. His words floated around her head, jumbling, falling, breaking.
There was a feeling of numbness inside her, and she expected to feel pain, she expected to break down and cry, but she felt nothing. She didn't even know if her body was still existing in this dimension or not.
"Divorce? You won't even give me a chance to refute your claims?" She mumbled weakly and he shrugged.
"I don't need your excuses or explanations."He spat.
"You don't trust me anymore? Or are you tired of me?" She looked at him calmly. "Do you want me to go? Is that what this is about?" She bit her lips as she stared at him.
"I want you to sign this and then leave me alone."
"Leave you alone? Then what will I do?"
"That is none of my concern." He sounded so damn cold. This wasn't the man she had fallen in love with. This was a stranger in his body. Jade wanted her Jared back, but no matter how hard she wished, this stranger was the one she got.
"I won't sign, Jared, I am not going to throw my marriage away just like that."
"There is no marriage anymore."
"You are being stubborn. Why won't you just-"
He left, again, leaving her in the emptiness. He knew how much she was afraid of people leaving her, and yet he decided to leave her.
She just sat there in the darkness, staring at the dust particles swirling in the light.
The very next day, Jade received a call saying Jared wanted to meet her.
She dressed carefully and wiped her face twice and applied makeup.
She pushed his office door open with a smile and then her smile wilted on her lips. She stared at Jared and the woman.
She quickly turned away from them, and she felt the pain in every cell.
Him. The love of her life. How could he accuse her of cheating and then go and kiss that witch? Jade hated him. She hated him with everything she had.
Her heart felt like someone was repeatedly stomping on it. She went back to their apartment and packed her dresses as tears trailed down her cheeks. She couldn't even wipe them away.
This was so unfair. How could life be so unfair?
She grabbed the divorce papers he had left on the table and when she read it with her blurry eyes, their ending, her fingers trembled. She scrawled her name and placed it back.
He had won. She had lost.
"Good bye, Jared. I hope I never, ever meet you."

Mr. Murphy was right. His law was unchallengeable. 'Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.'
"Jade, you are pregnant. Your blood test came back positive."
Jade looked at her best friend, Megan and Megan was gaping. Jade paled as she grabbed the report from the doctor with nervous fingers.
"I am pregnant?" Jade almost yelled. "Pregnant? Are you telling me that there is someone inside me right now? What the f*ck is wrong with this world?" She scoffed.
And her life had always been like that. Series of bad, bad plot twists and turns when she least expected it. One moment her giant wheel was up in the sky and the next moment it was free falling.
One, two, three... and here we go. Sh*t. Sh*tty sh*t.
"Yes. Two months." The doctor's voice was solemn.
"Two months?" Jade pinched herself. "I hope that this was just a nightmare, but from this stinging pain, I am sure I am not going to wake up from this nightmare anytime soon."
"You are very weak, Jade. I will write you prescriptions for pre-natal vitamins. You need to take care of yourself for the-"
Jade walked out before the doctor could finish. Megan followed her. When they reached the corridor, Megan found an empty room and they both walked inside. By that time, Jade was hyperventilating.
"I need to take care of myself for what? He won't want it, he will just tell me that this is not his and I'm afraid to want it." Jade said, feeling the fear rising inside her chest. "My chest. Meg, I can't-" She panted, clutching her throat.
"s**t. Baby, it is alright. Take a deep breath, Jadey. Count backwards. Slow. Inhale. Exhale." Megan patted Jade's back. After a second, Jade could finally breathe.
"You okay, Jadey?"
Jade nodded. "As okay as someone can be after having a mental breakdown!" She said with a bitter smile.
She didn't want to think about the ticking time bomb inside her stomach. But she could hear it going inside her. Tick. Tick. Tick. In the growing silence. The baby. There was someone inside her right now. It scared the sh*t out of her.
"Is it okay to not want it, Meg?" She asked, suddenly feeling cruel and guilty and miserable. She hated herself at that moment, but she didn't know what else to do.
She was not strong enough to do this without Jared, was she?
"It is okay to feel whatever you have to feel, Jadey. It is your feelings and every feelings matter."
"Is it okay to still miss him, Meg, after he has cruelly destroyed me? You warned me, didn't you?" Jade bit her lips until it broke.
"Ssh. You can still miss him, Jadey. And nothing I said matters now."
"It it okay to love him, still? Even after all this s**t?" Jade wanted to lie down on the cold hospital floor and cry.
A baby. A living, breathing baby would come out of her soon. How could she forget him, when she was already carrying a part of him with her, physically?
"Yes, Jade. We are all humans here, Jadey, imperfect, cruel, and kind, too, and there is no instruction manual for our brains. It works how it works. There is no rewiring it." Megan shrugged.
Jade sighed. If she closed her eyes, she could still see Jared smiling behind her eyes. She could also see him kissing another woman, just after he had accused her of infidelity.
Jade's heart broke once again and she watched helplessly as it shattered around her, a glass mirror that couldn't reflect happiness anymore.
"I wish the memories would just leave me alone."
They had once been in love, the kind of crazy, stupid love that made them both burn hotter, shine brighter.
He taught her how to become her own woman, she taught him how to open his heart. He gave her power, she offered him innocence.
"We were like phenomenal poetry. It is sad we even have an ending line." She whispered as a tear rolled down. "I never expected this."
Megan hugged Jade, even as she let out a sigh of relief. This was the first time Jade had been really crying, since the breakup.
It took Jade a long, long time to stop crying after that first bout of crying. A long, long time to finally find the small trace of smile and happiness.
And...
Then one day... years later, when Jade was finally comfortable with her life, Megan came to her with a dirty brown folder marked: Jared Wilson. CEO of TechNets.
"You have to interview him, Jadey."
What the f*ck is really wrong with her life?
___
We were poetry. Resplendent , phenomenal
our rhyme was in sync - we were
a timeless piece, a classic
...and then one day
an exchange of betrayals
started replacing the kisses and
hugs that should have been
our voices were lost in the vacuum
and unsaid words hung in
the spider webs, dare not be spoken
our anger barged in
through dams, broke the feelings
that has not been fully expressed
and
the last line is still trembling in
my forsaken fingers
cold with your abandonment
