Grady wanted nothing more than to crawl back in bed, but dawn was already brightening the sky to the east. He knew he had to go back and look for the fire’s starting point and cause before anything might hide or modify any tell-tale signs. He found Jamie, still in his jammies, sitting in the little dispatch cube with Sandy. “You should’ve woke me up, Dad.” It still gave him a jolt to hear that “D” word, but it was a nice jolt. He reached out and tousled Jamie’s fine, blond hair. “No, sport. When you slept through the sirens, I figured you needed your rest more than an adventure. And you wouldn’t have wanted to stay here, would you?” Jamie grinned. “Wel-l-l-l, not really but it’s fun to hear some of Sandy’s stories.
