Present-day
I walked out of the bathroom and I found Ella had taken out a long peach dress with, complimented it with purple. I just did a touch of makeup and put on the dress and she helped me make it tie behind.
Unlike my sister I was not into dressing up,
I walked out to the Dining room and I found my Father and sister were already there.
“Good morning, your Majesty” I bowed I as greeted him
“Good morning Katherine, “they both said in unison, I sat opposite my sister and her husband (Nicklas) he was a Knight who was serving under the current king she was the lucky one who got married to someone she loved and I was the one who was getting married to unite the two Ireland and Denmark. How ironic!
While I was sitting lost in my thoughts, I didn't even realize that I was not listening to what my Father was saying till Elsa called my name bringing me back to reality.
“Katherine, are you listening to any word I have just said?”
“Forgive me,” I said looking at him.
“You need to pay more attention, this is a very important union and we can't afford to give the prince the wrong impression,” my father said
“I understood” I replied dropping my face to my plate, i never had any appetite just thinking about this arranged marriage.
Ay
“Where's Charles?” i asked seeing he was not joining us for breakfast.
“My lady, Prince Charles has gone to pick up the Guests from the Sea Port” Theodore replied
“The guests will be here by midday, prepare accordingly” My father instructs to no one in particular as he stands up and walks away followed by Nicklas as they both head to my father’s chambers
“Do I have to do this, is this the only way?” I ask when it's just me and Elsa remaining,
“It's not a bad thing when you think about it, you were a prophesied child who is destined to unite the two lands,” She said
“But what if I never fall in love with him or I can't be a good queen who brings unity,” i say
“You will make a great queen I know that. Just believe in yourself” she says as she stands up and heads out the door.
I quickly finish having my breakfast and go out the back to the garden, I find a good place to relax and enjoy the cool weather. I think about what kind of life awaits me in a foreign land without my family.
Without realizing how time flies I just hear Ella's voice calling me.
Katherine! Katherine! Kath….!
“Yes, Ella am right here! I snapped at her, knowing too well that I didn't like to be disturbed when am in the garden.
“Am sorry, my lady I just didn't think I would disturb you, am so sorry if this upsets you” she says as she drops her head to the ground.
“It's alright Ella, tell me what has you worked up like this.”
“The guests have already arrived, we need to go and greet them.”
Oh! I answer with a bit of disappointment in my voice.
We should hurry they are waiting! She says
Let's go! We had back inside and headed directly to the living room.
I found everyone was sitting around the table, i slowly walked in with my head looking down, I bowed down and greeted them.
“Please, meet princess Katherine” My father announces whilst smiling.
I lift my head and i look at the man who am getting married to his walking towards me.
He's tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, muscular, strongly built, handsome and attractive i couldn't help but stare. Who was this man? Why was my heart beating so fast?
A lot of questions going through my mind.
“Pleased to meet you” as he gets my hand and brings it to his lips.
I get startled after realizing I have not been listening to what he was saying and everyone is looking at me.
“Nice to meet you, your highness,” i say after getting back to reality.
“She is quite a beautiful woman Your Majesty” Prince Aiden remark without any emotions in his voice.
I bow down and ask if they could excuse.
I head out of the living room, i see Ella coming towards me
“Is he handsome?”
“Do you like him?”
I keep quiet remembering the look on his face and the emotionless voice he had when he was greeting me.
“i do not know Ella, he seemed so unhappy and emotionless,” i said, seeing how low i sounded she didn't say much better rather took a few steps back and started following me behind as I walked aimlessly around the palace.
After getting tired of walking, I went to the balcony and stared at the beautiful scenery of trees and birds chirping. How peaceful i thought to myself!
“Ella! “
“Yes, my lady” she answered
“How is life outside of the palace walls?” I asked again for the hundredth time she just kept quiet.
Unlike my other siblings, the life I knew was just within these walls, I was never allowed to go outside I never knew why
“I wish I could just go out of these walls and see the life out there” I mumbled silently
“Do you think they would notice if I went into the village for a few hours?” I ask her cautiously
“Katherine, need I remind you that it is forbidden for you to go into the village, you know it is not safe’’ She answered, “If the King was to find, my head would be on a platter being served as food for the dogs’’
I chuckle at her statement “Oh Come on! I did not say am going to!’’
“well you are not someone who says things without thinking of doing it’’ she adds on
I laugh! “we should go back now am beginning to feel cold and we didn’t carry any coats”
As we head back downstairs, we joke about the time I had tried to jump the walls but was caught by Guards and how we were punished to read two books and master it just as we join the corridor leading to my ballroom, I notice the knights coming in towards us.
“Greetings My lady” as the bow down, I simply nod my head
“The King requests your presence in the throne hall,” One of the Guards says
“Alright then Please lead the way,” I say
